On Tuesday, MMA promotion Combate Americas, which is led by former UFC co-founder Campbell McLaren, announced that former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio (Jose Alberto Rodriguez) has joined the promotion as its’ new President.
“I am thrilled to be a part of Combate Americas and bring MMA to a new group of fans – Hispanics,” said the former WWE Superstar, who has been using the name “Alberto El Presidente” since parting ways with WWE earlier this year following a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s Wellness Policy.
Previously, it was announced that Del Rio was going to be working with the promotion as an announcer, however since parting ways with WWE, the pro wrestler who famously fought Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic back in PRIDE FC in Japan has expressed interest in running an MMA promotion.
The announcement regarding Alberto Del Rio joining Combate Americas as the new President was made on Tuesday evening at the promotion’s “Combate NUEVE” press event in New York City.
