Another great match-up has been added to the UFC Sacramento card this summer.

Earlier today (Tues. May 28, 2019) it was announced that multi-time UFC bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber will come out of retirement to compete on the card. Also, MMA Junkie has confirmed that featherweights Mirsad Bektic and Josh Emmett will be fighting each other at the event as well.

UFC Sacramento (also known as UFC on ESPN+ 13) takes place from the Golden1 Center in Sacramento, California on July 13. Bektic is currently on a two-fight win streak and will be returning to action after over a year away from competition due to injuries.

As for Emmett, he avenged his knockout loss to Jeremy Stephens in February of last year with a big knockout win over Michael Johnson in March. Emmett is still one of the most feared punchers in the division, and a big statement against Bektic could get him back on track to a hopeful title shot.

Josh Emmett pulled off a spectacular knockout victory over Michael Johnson at UFC Philadelphia last week.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to earn the knockout artist a $50,000 performance bonus. Emmett has been putting on some great performances since joining the UFC’s featherweight division in 2017. However, none of them have been good enough for a bonus. After knocking out Johnson, Emmett was sure that would change.

Of course, that wasn’t the case, as Emmett left Philadelphia, once again, without one. Speaking to MMA Fighting, Emmett detailed his disappointment with how things turned out:

“As soon as I hit [Johnson] and it went down like that, I told Urijah [Faber], Danny [Castillo and Joey [Rodriguez Sr.] in the corner ‘Finally, I’m getting a bonus,’” Emmett said.

“I thought it was a shoe-in for sure. Then, I’m going backstage and, of course, the [David] Branch fight went down and he got submitted [by Jack Hermansson]. But, thats ok. I figured there’d be some type of bonus in the main event and then [Justin] Gaethje got a nice TKO or knockout or whatever you want to call it.

“So I’m like ‘For sure you have to get [a bonus].’ All of the UFC staff were like ‘You’re getting a bonus’ or ‘Have you got your bonus yet?’ Then Danny pulled it up on his phone and it didn’t go to me. I thought he was joking.

“I was like ‘There is no way.’ So, I don’t know what else I have to do. What more can I do to get a performance bonus? I’m just super disappointed with that.”

Emmett’s victory over Johnson was his first since being knocked out by Jeremy Stephens in February of last year. His knockout power makes him one of the more dangerous fighters the division has to offer. Mix that with a formidable wrestling game, “The Grim Reaper” will be a problem for opposing 145 pounders for years to come.

Following his knock out loss at UFC Philadelphia, Michael Johnson took to social media to congratulate Josh Emmett and address his fans.

Johnson looked good throughout the fight, right up until the point when Emmett connected with a monstrous right hand late in the third round.

All things considered, “The Menace” is in good spirits following the setback. He took to Instagram following his fight to tip his hat to Emmett and address his fans.

“Great fight and hats off to [Josh Emmett]. I’ve slipped and fell in the game several times, and I’m always back on feet. See ya guys soon. “

As Johnson alluded to, he has had his fair share of setbacks in the UFC. This, however, was Johnson’s chance to finally crack the featherweight rankings as Emmett was ranked No. 10.

The loss will snap his two-fight winning streak. Johnson has gone a subpar 3-4 since losing to Nate Diaz at UFC on FOX 17 back in December of 2015.
