Former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway expects a “crazy” fight between former interim lightweight championship holders, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 later this week – and has stunningly offered to fight the victor of the BMF title rematch in the future.

Holloway, the current number one ranked featherweight contender, is slated to make his return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC Fight Night Singapore in August, taking on former two-time title challenger, Chan Sung Jung

The Hawaiian has already featured earlier this year, landing a unanimous decision victory over the streaking, Arnold Allen at UFC Fight Night Kansas City back in April – retaining his status as the number one ranked featherweight contender.

Max Holloway welcomes a future BMF title outing at the lightweight limit

And ahead of this weekend’s eye-catching lightweight rematch between Poirier and Gaethje, Holloway, who had a brief cameo at the lightweight limit of 155lbs in the past, admitted he would consider fighting the victor of that BMF title bout off the back of his clash with ‘The Korean Zombie’.

“It’s for the BMF belt, if you make any fight for the BMF belt, this the fight,” Max Holloway said ahead of UFC 291 on his YouTube channel. “I wanna throw my name out in that hat sooner or later now that the BMF belt is around 155 (pounds). That would be cool. I would love to fight either of these guys just for fan purposes. This is a fan fight. This is a huge fight, bro – a cool fight.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Having twice previously faced off with former interim lightweight champion, Poirier, Holloway first suffered a triangle armbar submission loss in his 2012 UFC debut, before rematching the Lafayette native in an interim lightweight title fight loss back in 2019.

And following his standout win over English contender, Allen, Max Holloway voiced his interest in a long-awaited stay at the lightweight limit before his booking against veteran fan-favorite, Jung in Kallang next month.

Justin Gaethje promises car crash against Dustin Poirier at UFC 291

Ahead of his upcoming BMF title rematch with fellow former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier at UFC 291 this weekend, fan-favorite veteran, Justin Gaethje has promised a “car crash for the ages” in their Salt Lake City rematch.

Gaethje, who makes his second Octagon walk of the year this weekend in Utah, looks to avenge a 2018 knockout loss to Poirier, most recently landing a close, majority decision win over Rafael Fiziev in the pair’s UFC 286 co-headliner back in March in London.

As for Poirier, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since he featured on he main card of UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, defeating common-opponent, Michael Chandler in a third round rear-naked choke victory.

And this weekend in Utah, the pair draw each other for the second time in their Octagon tenure, attempting to mint themselves as just the second symbolic BMF championship holder in the history of the UFC, following Jorge Masvidal – who will be in attendance to strap the title around the eventual winner at UFC 291.

Justin Gaethje expects “car crash” clash with Dustin Poirier at UFC 291

According to Gaethje, who claimed ahead of his re-run with Poirier, that he has multiple routes to success against the Lafayette striker, a car crash is guaranteed in this weekend’s lightweight rematch.

“This is entertainment,” Justin Gaethje said on the UFC 291 Countdown show. “This is an entertainment business and that is the fight you want to watch. This is a car crash for the ages.”

“I’m going to go in there and play a 50-50 car crash match and one of us got to go,” Justin Gaethje continued.

Along with Gaethje’s long-awaited rematch with Poirier, UFC 291 also features a massive light heavyweight title-eliminator between former champion, Jan Blachowicz, and the returning former middleweight titleholder, Alex Pereira

Justin Gaethje eyes title fight with Islam Makhachev he's no Khabib I can prove that UFC

UFC lightweight superstar Justin Gaethje has sounded off about what he believes is the biggest challenge for the UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

Gaethje is set to fight next weekend at UFC 291, where he has the possibility to become the next BMF champion when he rematches Dustin Poirier. Their first fight will always live on as a legendary battle and was an instant classic. Fans can only hope their second fight plays out the same way, but given the two fighters’ skills and style, there’s practically no doubt that it will.

In an interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Justin Gaethje was asked what he thinks is Islam Makhachev’s “biggest challenge” and he didn’t hesitate in his response.

Justin Gaethje talks about Islam Makhachev’s biggest challenge

When asked about the UFC lightweight champion and what might be his biggest challenge, Gaethje had some very good points to be made. First, he said the obvious: that Alexander Volkanovski would be his biggest challenge so far.

“If we’re going off what we know, then it’s going to be Volkanovski because he already fought him and it was a really close fight,” Justin Gaethje told Mahjouri.

However, Gaethje would also bring up a really good point. Makhachev has faced Oliveira, yes. But not Dustin Poirier and himself. Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier are no doubt the next greatest fighters in the division besides Oliveira. And, with the skill level that the upper echelon of the lightweight division possesses, any fight can really go any way. “I’ve never fought him, Poirier’s never fought him. I guess if you want to say something it would be (the guy that knocked Islam Makhachev out in the past). I think Volkanovski is the obvious answer for now.”

“I can’t wait to get in there (with Islam Makhachev), I know for a fact he’s not Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and I want to prove that,” Justin Gaethje concluded.

How do you think a Justin Gaethje vs. Islam Makhachev fight would play out?

Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje expected to retire after UFC 291 BMF title fight

A training partner of former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, has claimed that the loser of the upcoming BMF title bout between the Lafayette native and fan-favorite veteran, Justin Gaethje, will likelty hang up their gloves at UFC 291 later this month.

Headlining the promotion’s return to Salt Lake City, Utah, Dustin Poirier looks to land his second career win over fellow former interim champion, Gaethje, with the two initially sharing the Octagon back in 2018.

Dustin Poirier first defeated Justin Gaethje back in 2018 on enemy territory

Turning in a fourth round standing TKO win over Gaethje, Poirier would then landed interim lightweight gold in a rematch unanimous decision win over former featherweight champion.

And in both men’s pursuit of an undisputed lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev, or a title rematch with Charles Oliveira following their upcoming UFC 294 rematch, Poirier or Gaethje could likely retire from mixed martial arts with a loss in Utah, according to American Top Team trainee, Renato Moicano.

“My hot take on this fight, both [Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje] athletes are very accomplished, they don’t have many more fights on their belts anymore,” Renato Moicano said on his YouTube channel. “I think the loser of this fight will retire.”

Both riding wins in their flagship headliner at the end of this month, Poirier rebounded to the winner’s enclosure at UFC 281 back in November, submitting common-foe, Michael Chandler with a third round rear-naked choke at Madison Square Garden.

Dan Hooker mocks BMF title return I'd put it under the bed or something

Booked to make his own Octagon return at UFC 290 next weekend during International Fight Week, lightweight contender, Dan Hooker has scoffed at the return of the symbolic BMF championship atop a UFC 291 card next month – revealing he would be less than proud to hold the symbolic belt.

Hooker, a staple of City Kickboxing, has been sidelined since he featured at UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, snapping a two-fight losing skid to both lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and Arnold Allen – with a third round body kick TKO win over Peruvian upstart, Claudio Puelles.

And booked to return at UFC 285 earlier this year in March, Hooker was forced from an eye-catching clash with fellow contender, Jalin Turner, citing a hand injury – subsequently replaced by Polish contender, Mateusz Gamrot.

Dan Hooker mocks the return of a symbolic BMF championship

Booked to meet Turner next weekend in a rescheduled fight at UFC 290, Hooker has shared his thoughts on the end-of-month rematch between former interim champions, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 – mocking the inclusion of a symbolic BMF belt to boot.

“That’s why it’s a little bit of a silly fight, you know what I mean?” Dan Hooker said during an appearance on Freestylebender. “We’re prizefighters at the end of the day. Nah. What does it actually mean though?”

“Of course, I’d take it because there’s money that comes with it, which is the main objective of doing it,” Dan Hooker explained. “But having a BMF title and hanging that on my wall, and being proud of that is like not the same as a world title. I’d probably it under the bed or something like that.”

A fan-favorite striker under the banner of the UFC, Kiwi native, Hooker has landed notable victories over the likes of Ross Pearson, Jim Miller, Gilbert Burns, James Vick, Al Iaquinta, and Paul Felder to name a few.

Rafael Fiziev reveals 5 hour wait for injury treatment UFC care for fighters a little bit

UFC lightweight contender, Rafael Fiziev has revealed he waited a lengthy five hours before he was treated for injuries suffered in his most recent Octagon walk against Justin Gaethje in London back in March, urging the organization to display some care for combatants on it’s roster.

Fiziev, the current number six lightweight contender, suffered the snapping of his eye-catching six fight winning run against former interim champion, Justin Gaethje, dropping a close, majority decision loss to the Arizona native in the pair’s UFC 286 co-headliner.

Battling over the course of three gruelling rounds at The O2 Arena in the English capital, a bloody Rafael Fiziev suffered a close, debated majority decision loss, seeing his quest for a lightweight title affair halted by the former interim championship holder.

Travelling to a London medical facility in order to get his injuries seen to, Kazakhstan-born striker, Fiziev revealed recently that he was forced to stand in cue for a five hour period before his injuries were addressed.

“After this fight (with Justin Gaethje), I go into f*cking hospital in London and we stand five hours in the queue,” Rafael Fiziev told The AllStar during a recent interview. “And we’re waiting like when [the doctor] finish everything, [then] he do stitches for me, you know? And we wait five hours, bro, after this fight. Five hours I’m just sitting and waiting [for] something.”

“And [wait] for five hours for nothing,” Rafael Fiziev explained. “We’re tired and we say – doesn’t give a f*ck, we’re going [to the] hotel. Just UFC doctor, he’s coming and make a glue for me. But this glue is open the next day when I wash my face. That’s why – and the UFC London is, after this, after fight you [UFC] have to care a little bit about fighters. Little bit. Not stand in the queue for five hours, bro, after this fight.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Rafael Fiziev has been linked with a return against Mateusz Gamrot this year

Yet to return to the Octagon since his pivotal loss to Gaethje earlier this year, Fiziev has been linked to a fight with former two-weight KSW champion, Polish contender, Mateusz Gamrot in his return to competition.

Throughout his Octagon tenure, Tiger Muay Thai staple, Fiziev has landed notable wins over the likes of Renato Moicano, Bobby Green, Brad Riddell, and stopped former undisputed lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos in his premiere headlining fight under the banner of the UFC.
