UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje has responded to champion Charles Oliveira’s recent comments with a similar claim of his own.

This weekend, Gaethje will look to secure undisputed champion status at the second time of asking. Having won interim gold at UFC 249 in May 2020, “The Highlight” failed to secure the top spot in the division when he faced Khabib Nurmagomedov five months later.

Now, having rebounded with a victory in a Fight of the Year war with Michael Chandler, Gaethje is set to challenge for the title once again, this time against Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 274 on May 7.

Ahead of their collision inside Arizona’s Footprint Center, “Do Bronx” accused his next challenger of “coming up with a lot of bullshit” in order to win the pre-fight mind games.

In response, Gaethje has turned on his own BS radar, and says it’s taken him straight to the doorstep of the champion.

Gaethje Flips The Script On Oliveira’s ‘BS’ Claim

During a recent interview with Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole, Gaethje addressed Oliveira’s recent comments. While he welcomed the Brazilian’s pre-fight confidence, the #1-ranked lightweight did offer a different point of view when it comes to BS accusations.

“The Highlight” suggested that the “biggest bullshit” actually came out of the mouth of Oliveira while he was discussing his stoppage victory over Chandler at UFC 262 last May.

“Yeah, I love it (Oliveira’s confidence)…just by his interviews, I mean, him saying that he knocked out Chandler with his left hand—and he doesn’t even use his left hand,” noted Gaethje. “I mean, that’s—he was saying that I was saying bullshit. And then, he came out and said that. I was like, ‘That’s the biggest bullshit I ever heard.’

“I mean, people like us can knock people out with anything. And the biggest factor, which he’s not gonna ever understand, is the only reason that shot was so effective is because Chandler beat his ass for one round and then, for some reason, thought he was not in danger anymore,” suggested Gaethje.

Having appeared to suggest that Oliveira’s title victory was more down to Chandler’s own complacency rather than the champ’s ability, it stands to reason that Gaethje’s latest comments could be something brought up during fight week.

That, coupled with previous remarks that “The Highlight” made about a perceived ‘quit’ present in Oliveira, seems to suggest that fans could be set for a relatively heated build-up ahead of the May 7 PPV.

Fight week for UFC 274: Oliveira vs. Gaethje is upon us, and the countdown to this spring showcase has officially begun.

The UFC has released their official UFC 274 Countdown video, which features the tripleheader that will be on display this Saturday, May 7, 2022.

In the main event, Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira will put up the lightweight gold for the second time as he looks to extend his incredible 10-fight winning streak. Next up for the solidified champion is the walking highlight reel and advocate for violence Justin Gaethje, who has been chomping at the bit for another shot at the title after his 2020 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

As Gaethje seeks redemption, so will Rose Namajunas who will run it back with Carla Esparza seven years after Esparza became the inaugural UFC strawweight champion at Namajunas’ expense. This time, it will be Namajunas entering with the title and Esparza trying to extend her winning streak to six with the reward of championship gold awaiting her.

Finally, there will be a lightweight feature bout between fan favorites Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson. Chandler and Ferguson will both attempt to put a halt to their losing streaks and no doubt put on a thriller for fans while doing so.

Here is what you can expect to see from the UFC 274 Countdown video.

“I have all the advantages over Justin Gaethje. I’m better on the feet, better on the ground, I’m better at wrestling, my mind is better than his, my spirit is better than his. I’m the champion. That’s the reality.” – Charles Oliveira

In the Countdown video, Oliveira’s humble beginnings and underdog roots were chronicled alongside his rise to cementing himself as the current lightweight king. And as noted in the above quote, his confidence throughout the episode was easy to detect.

“When it comes to competing, I’m a showoff. And I want to put myself in the history books as a champion of the lightweight division.” – Justin Gaethje

You can’t talk about a Justin Gaethje fight without making mention of the entertainment and violence factor that is always present when he takes the Octagon. But what was spotlighted even more in this episode is Gaethje’s desire to make the most of this second chance and become a UFC world champion.

“Fighters will never admit that they have quit or whatever, but that was the first time I quit.” – Rose Namajunas

In the episode, a vulnerable Rose Namajunas opens up about her loss to Esparza seven years ago. She and her coach/fiancé Pat Barry were very reflective about the experience and discussed the growth “Thug Rose” has experienced since then en route to becoming a confident champion ahead of UFC 274.

Former titleholder Carla Esparza spoke about paying her dues to make it back to the UFC title conversation and was also upfront about her game plan coming into her rematch against Namajunas.

“I’m going to be too sharp, too composed. I think he’s always there to be hit. I think he keeps his head right where I’m gonna want it. I’m going to be able to lad big shots. One of those shots is going to land right on the button, and Tony goes out.” – Michael Chandler

Michael Chandler is brimming with confidence ahead of his fight with Tony Ferguson. In the video, he also discusses what will be different about his approach to this fight compared to his last two Octagon outings that ended in defeat.

UFC lightweight fries back at Nate Diaz for mocking him for being put to sleep by a triangle from mount position.

The UFC’s No.1 lightweight contender, Gaethje is set to square off against champion Charles Oliveira this weekend at UFC 274 in what will be his second shot at UFC gold.

During an interview with Megan Olivi as part of his fight week media, Gaethje spoke about his expectations of his upcoming bout. ‘The Highlight’, explained that Oliveria must endure his punishment in order to get the victory.

“He’s [Oliveira] gonna have to walk through hell like Khabib did. He’s not as powerful, he doesn’t have the structure, he doesn’t have the frame, and he doesn’t have explosive takedowns.”

“He’s going to have find me making a mistake, overreaching, and try to get into a grappling situation. Outside that, he better be praying everyday that he gets me to the ground. If not, it’s going to be the same night as [Michael] Chandler, except five rounds. If I went five rounds with Chandler, he would have died.”

One man however did not agree with this was Stockton native, Diaz- who is never one to hold his tongue. Diaz would post on his Instagram a picture of Gaethje’s quote, captioned “Bruh got triangle choked from mount. What he talkin bout.”

Justin Gaethje Responds

Gaethje, who clearly was not a fan of Diaz poking fun at his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254, would clap back at Diaz, calling him jealous.

‘I ain’t your bruh you jealous bitch @NateDiaz209

As for Diaz, his future seems unclear; he has been vocally calling for a fight for some time now but seems to be unable to come to terms with the UFC.

“I been trying to fight everybody and no go what’s the hold up ufc? I’m not fighting Conor he sucks. I’ll fight some one quit slow rolling me please. Thanks,” Diaz would tweet.

Who would you take Justin Gaethje or Nate Diaz?

Nate Diaz, Justin Gaethje

UFC welterweight Nate Diaz has bashed Justin Gaethje for his recent comments regarding his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nate Diaz is not particularly known for mincing his words as he went in on Justin Gaethje. ‘Highlight’ is set to face the reigning UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira this May 7 at UFC 274. As a former title challenger, Gaethje fought the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov in his retirement fight in October 2020.

Ahead of his upcoming fight this weekend, Gaethje spoke to Megan Olivi for ESPN about how Oliveira will be hoping to take the fight to the ground.

“(Oliveira) is gonna have to walk through hell like Khabib did,” Gaethje said. “He better be praying every day that he gets me to the ground.”

Although the judges scored the first round for Gaethje (making him only the second fighter to ever win a round against the Dagestani), Nurmagomedov won the contest in convincing fashion as he submitted Gaethje in the second round.

Taking to his Instagram story after seeing the quote pop up on his social media feed, Diaz criticized the 33-year-old fighter’s take on his own performance.

“Bruh got triangle choked from mount. What he talkin bout.”

Nate Diaz urges UFC to book his last fight

Fan-favorite Nate Diaz has become one of the most recognizable names in the sport. Walking in the footsteps of his elder brother Nate, the younger Diaz charmed the fans with his bold personality. As one of the biggest draws of MMA, Diaz finds himself struggling to book the last fight on his contract.

Following a few initial tweets targeting UFC president Dana White as well as matchmakers Hunter Campbell and Sean Shelby, Diaz took to Twitter to share a new message.

“@ufc I been trying to fight everybody and no go what’s the hold up? I’m not fighting Conor he sucks. I’ll fight some one quit slow rolling me please. Thanks”

There were talks of a potential fight with Dustin Poirier as the two went back and forth online seemingly willing to make it happen but interest from the UFC died down shortly after.

Diaz has fought sporadically over the last five to six years. His last outing resulted in an unsuccessful effort against Leon Edwards in September 2021. Given that Diaz only has one fight left on his current deal, it’s likely that the UFC is saving him for a third fight with Conor McGregor.

Would you like to see Nate Diaz complete his deal or wait to fight Conor McGregor?

Nate Diaz Taunts Justin Gaethje In Response To Clap-Back

Nate Diaz has responded to Justin Gaethje’s clap-back by posing a question to the UFC 274 lightweight title challenger. Nate Diaz has responded to Justin Gaethje’s clap-back by posing a question to the UFC 274 lightweight title challenger.

At this weekend’s UFC 274 card, Justin Gaethje will have his second opportunity at the UFC’s lightweight championship.

In his first attempt, Gaethje faced Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254. Khabib would pull away from the bout before too long, earning a second-round triangle choke victory to close the show — and his legendary career.

How Khabib Nurmagomedov Put Justin Gaethje to Sleep at UFC 254

Over a year has passed since that humbling defeat for Gaethje. Last year, he got back on the winning track with a unanimous-decision victory over Michael Chandler in what was widely regarded as the Fight of the Year.

Now, he stands at the doorstep of his second lightweight championship opportunity this weekend at UFC 274 against Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira.

Although Gaethje was unsuccessful in his first go at UFC gold, he still believes he had a lot of success against Khabib and made life difficult for the Dagestani. If Oliveira is to have the same success as Khabib did, Gaethje said in a recent interview that the Brazilian ought to be prepared to walk through hell to earn it.

“[Charles Oliveira] is gonna have to walk through hell like Khabib did…. He better be praying every day that he gets me to the ground,” Gaethje said in an interview with Megan Olivi.

On Nate Diaz’s Instagram Stories, he posted the following caption to the above quote.

“Bruh got triangle-choked from the mount. What he talkin’ ’bout?” Diaz asked with a face-palm emoji.

Image

Gaethje would later issue the following sharp retort to the 209 representative.

“I ain’t your bruh you jealous bitch @NateDiaz209

Monday night, Diaz would then taunt Gaethje with the following response, doubling down on his “Bruh” rhetoric while asking the Arizonian a question.

“Jealous of what Bruh”

Gaethje has yet to respond to the above tweet. His mind may be occupied with arguably the biggest fight of his career being mere days away.

Meanwhile, Diaz has his own business to attend to, as he currently continues to publicly demand the UFC book him in a fight.

What are your thoughts on this exchange between Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz?

Justin Gaethje

Ahead of UFC 274 next weekend, former middleweight champion, turned promotional color-commentator, Michael Bisping has shared his thoughts on the likely path to victory for main event challenger, Justin Gaethje when he tackles lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira.

Headlining the Phoenix, Arizona card on May 7. – Gaethje, a former interim lightweight champion, looks to go one better in his second attempt at undisputed lightweight spoils – taking on undisputed best, Oliveira.

The Arizona native opened the main card of UFC 268 most recently at Madison Square Garden in a November showdown against common-foe, Michael Chandler – turning in a unanimous decision win in the consensus Fight of the Year to earn his slot as the #1 ranked contender.

Justin Gaethje has landed wins in five of his last six Octagon appearances

For Sao Paulo native, Oliveira, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sensation headlined UFC 269 in December last, stopping common-opponent, another former interim titleholder, Dustin Poirier with an eventual third round standing rear-naked choke win.

Sharing his thoughts on how Gaethje could topple the surging Oliveira, snap his division-best 10-fight winning run, and clinch the lightweight title, the above mentioned, Bisping urged Gaethje to avoid any sort of offensive grappling scrambles.

“If he (Justin Gaethje) uses the wrestling, and takes down Charles Oliveira, that could be dangerous,” Michael Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “We know Charles is the best submission practitioner that the UFC has ever seen. But it doesn’t me he (Gaethje) can’t win a fight down there. Just look at the last time Charles Oliveira was beaten, that was against Paul Felder… ultimately, he gassed. Felder got on top and he landed five or six vicious, hard elbows, one after the other, and the referee called it off.”

“But the point remains, that a good wrestler, with a solid base, that isn’t playing that game, can win,” Michael Bisping said. “If you don’t engage in the Jiu-Jitsu game, if you don’t abide by the rules, if you don’t try and pass guard, if you don’t try and go for your own submissions, you don’t create as many openings.”

With that strategy in mind, Bisping, who admitted Gaethje would likely avoid any wrestling offense early in the fight, would also be wise to incorporate leg kicks into his approach.

“Another factor to consider as well: the leg kicks of Justin Gaethje,” Michael Bisping said. “He is one of the best history in the absolute game. A lot power, he throws them with frequency, he will stand in the pocket and throw low kicks all the time… he does it all the time. He has an advantage with the kicks, he has an advantage with the power, and he has an advantage in the wrestling. But Charles Oliveira has an advantage with the Jiu-Jitsu, maybe with the heart, with the experience, maybe the physiological experience coming in as the champion.”
