UFC wasting time with Khamzat Chimaev after latest withdrawal I feel sorry for the guy

Off the back of his latest exit from a high-profile return to the Octagon last month, Khamzat Chimaev should be avoided when it comes to promotion by the UFC – according to current middleweight champion, Dricus du Plessis.

Forced from yet another slated return to action – this time in the form of his would-be main event debut for the promotion, Chimaev exited a UFC Saudi Arabia headliner with ex-champion, Robert Whittaker, through an apparent “violent illness”.

And plotting another return – this time at UFC 308 in October, Chimaev, who has been sidelined since the same month an annum prior, warned contenders and fans alike that he would show who the real “king” was when he eventually makes a comeback.

However, in his pursuit of a rebooked clash with fan-favorite, Whittaker, Chimaev has been labelled as a waste of time currently by du Plessis – who admitted he would also fight the Chechen, if he ever strung together a run of consistency.

“I’m feeling sorry for the guy (Khamzat Chimaev), I know what it feels like, I’ve been on that side of the are of not being able to fight and it sucks,” Dricus du Plessis told Submission Radio.”

“Right now, it just doesn’t even make sense to talk about it [a future fight],” Dricus du Plessis explained. “You know, he hasn’t fought one single ranked middelweight – not one, and to put him in that conversation right now, seems like we’re wasting time. He’s not in the run and up until [the time] he proves that he deserves to be in that run, there’s no use in talking about it.”

Himself returning at UFC 305 next month in a trip to Perth, undisputed middleweight champion, du Plessis will defend his middleweight crown against former two-time titleholder, Israel Adesanya in a heated battle ‘Downunder’

Khamzat Chimaev promotes new cryptocurrency and UFC fans are not having it: 'Epic fail'

Instead of fighting, Khamzat Chimaev is promoting a new crypto coin — and UFC fans are not amused.

After bowing out of his previously scheduled headliner with Robert Whittaker at UFC Saudi Arabia due to an undisclosed illness, ‘Borz’ took to social media to promote a new crypto endeavor called Smash.

“Hello guys, there is one crypto coin about me,” Chimaev said. “They call it Smash. Let’s smash together.”

According to the official website, the goal of Smash is to “bring the fighting spirit and the drive of the man himself into the world of DeFi,” or decentralized finance.

The last time stepped inside the cage was in October for a scrap with former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 284. Usman stepped into the bout on less than two weeks’ notice and moved up to 185 for the fight. Still, the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ delivered a solid showing, pushing Chimaev to the limit and barely coming up short on the scorecards, surrendering a majority decision to the undefeated Chechen monster.

Overall, Chimaev is a perfect 13-0 in his mixed martial arts career, but he has only fought twice in the last two years, seeing no less than five main events canceled.

Needless to say, fight fans online were not very kind in the comments, calling out Chimaev for his stalled-out career inside the Octagon and promoting a sus cryptocurrency.

Yet to return since October of last year, Chimaev would turn in his thirteenth straight win in a short-notice UFC 294 fight against former undisputed welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, beating the Nigerian veteran in a controversial majority decision win.

Calling for a rescheduled pairing with Auckland-born striker, Whittaker in the future off the back of their cancelled UFC Saudi Arabia clash, Chimaev was told by the former directly how he had “dodged a bullet” by missing out on their pairing.

“I was pretty primed and ready,” Robert Whittaker said “I am 99 percent sure I would have starched Khamzat (Chimaev) as well. Our paths may cross one day in the division, as guys at the top of the game, but he dodged a bullet that night, that’s for sure.”

“… Like I said, I’m a middleweight, if he’s a middleweight – because I know he fights at welterweight sometimes as well – if we’re both at the top of the game, our paths may cross,” Robert Whittaker explained. “I didn’t duck you. I didn’t not sign the contract to fight you.”

Robert Whittaker doesn’t understand why Khamzat Chimaev has told him he will see him soon after UFC Saudi Arabia.

Whittaker and Chimaev were supposed to headline the card, but just over a week out from the scrap, Chimaev was forced out due to an illness. Ikram Aliskerov replaced Chimaev and Whittaker made quick work of the unranked middleweight as he scored a first-round knockout.

Following the win, Chimaev took to social media to call out Whittaker and say he’ll see him soon.

“Congratulations [Robert Whittaker] we are not done!” He wrote (via Google Translate). “I wish you a speedy recovery [Ikram Aliskerov] keep your head up my brother.”

Speaking on his MMArcade Podcast, Robert Whittaker responded to the comment and laughed it off saying Khamzat Chimaev can’t get into any country.

“Well, I will say, ‘See you soon?’ It’s like, where? You can’t get into any country,” Whittaker said. “Where are you going to see me, bro? When I’m in the area, right? Yeah. So that’s tricky to start with.”

Following the win over Aliskerov, Whittaker is hoping to fight for the UFC middleweight title next time out and mentioned being the backup fighter for the Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya bout.

Whittaker has made it clear he’s willing to fight anyone and the Aussie knows he and Chimaev are both two of the best middleweights, so he knows it’s only a matter of time until they fight.

“Mate, I’m a middleweight. I don’t pick my fights. If that’s a fight that UFC wants and are still are interested in making, and they want me to to headline another card out that way? That’s what I do. That’s why I do this. Right? Our paths are sure to cross. We’re both top 10 middleweights. That’s kind of the game,” Whittaker said.
