FEN 34 Results: Frans Mlambo Captures Bantamweight Strap

Frans Mlambo arrived in Poland with a reputation as more of a striker than a grappler. However, Mlambo’s quickfire submission win over Denmark’s Jonas Magard at FEN 34 will make future opponents think twice about going in search of a takedown when coming face-to-face with the Irishman.

Mlambo and Magard squared off in the co-main event of FEN 34, which went down on Friday night in Warsaw, Poland. The bout — the only title fight on the eight-fight card — was over before it had begun, with Mlambo submitting Magard with just over a minute gone on the clock.

Mlambo’s striking came into play early in the fight, after he landed a sidekick to the mid-section of Magard, before following it up with a straight right. Magard, known primarily as a grappler, then went for the takedown and found himself instantly trapped by a guillotine choke. It was an impressive display from Mlambo, who was making his promotional debut and who came into this bout off of a win at Bellator Milan.

“I’m a striker, and people know that. I’m crisp on the feet, so knowing that he was a wrestler, I knew what he was going to do, ” Mlambo said in a post-fight interview with InTheCage.

“My corner guys looked at him, and they told me just keep the distance, and he is going to shoot in eventually.”

Mlambo has already set his sights on who he wants to fight next , with the SBG fighter calling out former UFC veteran Taylor Lapilus. The 29-year-old Frenchman recently signed with FEN MMA , and matchup between him and Mlambo seems almost a certainty.

In the main event, light heavyweight’s ?ukasz Borowski and Pawe? Tryba?a faced off in their rematch, with Borowski doing enough in the eyes of the judges to get his hand raised.

Earlier in the night Ekaterina Shakalova , continued her fine run of form with a second-round submission victory over Brazil’s Jamila Sandora. The 23-year-old Ukrainian grappler is now on a four-fight winning streak and if she can continue to improve she will definitely be prospect to keep a close eye on in the coming years.

FEN MMA returns this week, with FEN 34 going down on Friday, May 28th. The Polish promotion has put together a nine-bout lineup that contains several intriguing matchups, most notably the main and co-main events.

In the main event, light heavyweights Pawe? Tryba?a and ?ukasz Borowski clash in an anticpated rematch. The pair first fought at FEN 31 in a bout that saw both men throwing bombs right from the opening bell.

It was an entertaining affair that came to a halt a minute into the second round after Tryba?a burst Borowski’s left ear with a shot that caused heavy bleeding. It was a frustrating ending to what had been a classic old-fashioned scrap. The demand for a rematch came from both fans and fighters, and thankfully the FEN matchmakers have obliged.

In the co-main event rising European star Jonas Magard makes the first defense of his FEN bantamweight title when he fights SBG‘s Frans Mlambo. Magard captured the vacant belt at FEN 31 when he defeated Polands’s Sebastian Romanowski.

The Danish fighter has an impressive ground game and a gas tank for days, but in Mlambo, he will be facing a different challenge than when he fought Romanowski. The Irish fighter is exceptionally quick on his feet and is a dangerous striker. He has been of Conor McGregor‘s sparring partners and comes into this bout following a recent win at Bellator Milan.

A victory for either Magard or Mlambo will help further establish themselves in the upper echelon of the European MMA scene, so expect both men to be at their best when the cage doors shut.

Undercard bouts

The remaining bouts on the card contain several interesting matchups. France’s Damien Lapilus makes his promotional debut against Poland’s ?ukasz Charzewsk in a lightweight contest. The Pole is riding an eight-fight winning streak, and a win over the French veteran would see him earn his second win over international competition.

Women’s bantamweight prospect Ekaterina Shakalova is also back in action and squares off against Brazil’s Jamila Sandora. The Ukrainian grappler almost stole the show with her win over Izabela Badurek at FEN 33. The 23-year-old landed a stunning-over-the-shoulder bodyslam, which was added immediately to her highlight reels. Sandora will a step up in competition for Shakalova, and she should provide a good yardstick to gauge Shakalova’s current level.

This Friday at FEN 34, Denmark’s Jonas “Shark” Magard returns to the cage to defend his FEN Bantamweight Championship against Ireland’s Frans Mlambo. The 28-year-old claimed the vacant title last November, at FEN 31, after defeating Poland’s Sebastian Romanowski via unanimous decision.

It was an impressive performance from the Dane and helped cement his reputation as one of Europe’s top bantamweight talents. A dynamic athlete with an imposing ground game, Magard looks to be entering his prime and comes into this week’s bout riding a four-fight win streak. The six-month break between fights means that fans will get to witness a fighter at the top of their game.

” It thinks it is perfect for me. It’s a five-round fight, so after a fight like that [Romanowski], the preparation for a title fight, you need to get a bit of time for yourself and your body to come back from that, so I think it is the perfect timing for a fight like this now,” Magard speaking to Lowkick MMA.

In Mlambo, Magard will face a seasoned veteran, coming off a recent win at Bellator Milan over Cory Tait. The South African-born fighter, who trains out of SBG Ireland, is a gifted striker, who will be looking to make a statement when he makes his promotional debut at FEN 34.

Mlambo, a 2015 IMMAF Featherweight World Champion, has fought for multiple promotions and had an impressive run with BRAVE CF. He has been a regular sparring partner for Conor McGregor, and the “Black Mamba’s” speed will provide Magard with a different type of challenge than the one Romanowski presented.

“He has been in a lot of promotions and has shown a lot of good skills, he is a good guy, and it is a fight I want. Stylistically I think we will be a good match for each other it is going to a good fight. I am very much looking forward to it,” Magard said.

” I think me and Frans’ fight is going to be one of the best matches on the Polish scene in a long time, seeing from where we are standing, both of us, and our careers right now.”

There is a lot on the line for both men, and Magard is doing everything within his power to ensure that when the cage doors shut, he is fully prepared for whatever Mlambo throws at him. To that end, Magard, who does his regular training at Redline Training Center in Sweden, has spent the final weeks of his camp in Manchester, England, sharpening his tools at Manchester Top Team.

” The game plans change from opponent to opponent. There have been some specific things we have been working on for this fight. I traveled to England to get the best training and the best sparring I could get for this fight camp, ” he commented.

“It is very good, very, very tough. The level here is very high. The striking skills, the ground skills are next level over here. I have been coming back and forth to Manchester for quite some time now. The skill level has risen like crazy since I was here last time.”

The fact that the matchup between Magard and Mlambo is being put on in Poland by a Polish promoter demonstrates MMA’s expanding appeal in the country. FEN has made no secret of its aim to broaden its reach to fans outside of Poland, and this week’s bantamweight title bout is proof of their commitment to that aim.

“I don’t think people understand how big MMA is in Poland; it is almost becoming like a national sport for them. The events are crazy. They are very good, very professional events, and the whole setup is very nice to look at as well,” Magard said.

“I think they have one of the best scenes in Europe and just a love for the sport over there. You don’t see it anywhere else. They are really taking it in.”

A win at FEN 34 will open even more doors for Magard regarding possible future opponents. However, at the moment, the “Shark’s” focus is solely on the task at hand.

” I just take one fight at a time,” he said when asked about what the future could hold.

” I will sit down with my team and discuss all these things, but right now, the focus is on the fight, one thing at a time.”

FEN 33 went down in ?ód?, Poland, over the weekend, and the nine-fight card saw its fair share of thrills and spills. MMA cards are happening thick and fast now, and not every fan has time to follow each event’s ins and outs every weekend.

Here are a few select highlights from this past weekend’s FEN event, headlined by a featherweight clash between Kacper Formela and Damian Frankiewicz. Formela displayed some clinical striking in the main event to earn a unanimous decision victory over his fellow Pole and take his record to 12-4. The 24-year-old is now riding a three-fight winning streak and will be wanting to earn himself a shot at Daniel Rutkowski’s featherweight strap.

Ukraine’s Ekaterina Shakalova produced one of the highlights of the evening with an over-the-shoulder bodyslam of Poland’s Izabela Badurek that would not have looked out of place in a pro wrestling ring. Shakalova came into this bout on a two-fight winning streak, and the 23-year-old two-time Pankration World Champion could soon be a real force in the women’s bantamweight division.

Shakalova’s compatriot, lightweight Andrei Khokhlov, scored the night’s most impressive KO with his opening-round win over Russia’s Mansur Abdurzakov. Khokhlov just over a minute to land the knockout blow, which stopped Abdurzakov in his tracks. The 23-year-old unleashed a heavy overhand right, which effectively ended the contest as soon as it landed. This fight was Abdurzakov’s promotional debut; based on this performance, it will hopefully not be too long before we see him back in the cage again.

FEN is set to return on May 28 with FEN 34. Former UFC fighter Taylor Lapilus will make his promotional debut. The Frenchman racked up a 3-1 record under the UFC banner and is one of Europe’s top bantamweights. In the co-main event, light heavyweights Pawe? Tryba?a and ?ukasz Borowski will meet in a rematch of their FEN 31 clash, which saw Tryba?a win via second-round doctor’s stoppage.

Poland’s Mateusz Rebecki may not be a familiar name to casual MMA fans, but the 28-year-old has carved out a reputation for himself as one of Europe’s top lightweights. Poland’s Mateusz Rebecki may not be a familiar name to casual MMA fans, but the 28-year-old has carved out a reputation for himself as one of Europe’s top lightweights.

Rebecki competes under the FEN MMA banner, where he is the reigning lightweight champion. The Polish promotion has kept him active since he signed with them in 2015. In February, Rebecki celebrated his tenth FEN MMA bout with a devastating KO of Argentina’s Jose Barrios Vargas in the main event of FEN 32.

The opening round victory took Rebecki’s record to 12-1, with his sole defeat taking place in 2014. A grappler by trade, Rebecki was a skilled BJJ practitioner before switching to MMA. His initial success in the cage was owed in part to his impressive ground game. However, over the years, he has developed and refined his striking capabilities. After scoring his first KO win in his seventh professional bout, the Gryfice born fighter has been on a hot streak racking up six further stoppage wins in as many fights.

“Every victory makes me happy, and this time it was the same. I’ve always dreamed of knocking someone out like that, and I did it that night. This ending of the fight allows me to believe that I am still developing as a fighter,” Rebecki said to LowkickMMA about his most recent victory.

Shortly after defending his title at FEN 32, the BJJ black belt, signed with First Round Management, home to Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, and Demetrious Johnson. The move hints that we could eventually see Rebecki competing outside of his native Poland.

“I would like to fight for the UFC, and if I can’t, then continue to fight and cooperate with the FEN organization. I do not know what my sports level is compared to the world’s best fighters. So I would like to test myself in the UFC,” Rebecki commented.

” I don’t know if I can handle it there, but I don’t want to regret in my old age that I didn’t do my best to get there. My weight class is one of the most popular in whole MMA, and thus the bar is set very high.”

In the meantime, Rebecki is enjoying the journey he has been on with FEN MMA. The promotion opened its doors in November of 2013, and after successfully establishing itself in the local market, it is now looking to attract the interest of international audiences. FEN MMA’s last two PPV events were available worldwide, and Rebecki expects the promotion to continue expanding in the coming years.

“I really appreciate the opportunity to fight in the FEN federation, and that is why we continue to work together. It’s hard to talk about the future nowadays, but FEN is developing dynamically, and they will probably surprise me positively in the next few years.”

Polish MMA seems to be on the rise at the moment. The country has an impressive local scene, and with fighters like UFC Middleweight Champion Jan Blachowicz flying the flag overseas, Poland and Polish fighters will continue to play an important role in the sport.

“We, as Poles, are true warriors, and this is probably why there is so much interest in a sport such as MMA,” Rebecki exclaimed, speaking about the popularity of MMA in his homeland.

Rebecki’s next steps will be interesting to follow and with a new managerial team behind team fans should not be surprised if his name starts to become a lot more familiar in the near future.

Pudzianowski’s strongman credentials are well documented, and since entering the cage in 2009, the 44-year-old has racked up an MMA record of 13-7. His most recent appearance was in 2019 when he scored a second-round TKO victory over Erko Jun at KSW 51: Croatia.

KSW has put together the below promotional video to help fans get even more excited about the upcoming contest. So if seeing physical giants lock horns inside the cage is your idea of action, then this fight is must see.
