The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is going to Phoenix, Arizona next Sunday night (Jan. 15). Unfortunately, it looks like they’ll be going without No. 6 ranked bantamweight Jimmie Rivera. That means they are down to three fights on the main card.

“El Terror” was supposed to face No. 5 ranked Bryan Caraway in a crucial bout in the UFC’s 135-pound division. “Kid Lightening” went down with an injury. Former flyweight contender John Dodson offered to step in. The promotion went with Marlon Vera instead.

Now it looks like Rivera has been scrapped from the card. He took to his Twitter account to break the news:

Sorry “Magician,” maybe next time.

Bantamweights Jimmie Rivera (20-1) and Bryan Caraway were set to go toe-to-toe at next Sunday night’s (Jan. 15) UFC Fight Night event in Phoenix, Arizona. Those plans were scrapped when Caraway went down with an injury. John Dodson offered to replace Caraway and meet “El Terror” inside the Octagon.

That fight is going to have to wait if it ever materializes.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced that Marlon Vera (8-3-1) will step up to face Rivera inside the Talking Stick Arena. Vera competed on The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. “Chito’s” professional record inside the Octagon sits at 2-2.

Rivera hasn’t lost since his second professional bout and is on a 19-fight winning streak. He is the No. 8 ranked bantamweight in the world. He’s coming off a unanimous decision victory of the now retired mixed martial arts (MMA) icon Urijah Faber at UFC 203.

The main card of the Phoenix event will begin at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. Rivera vs. Vera is expected to open the main card.

Episode 5 of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America ended with one of the nastiest knockouts in TUF history, as Team Werdum bantamweight Marlon “Chito” Vera knocked Team Velasquez’s Enrique “Henry Bure” Briones clean out with an upkick from his guard. The timing of the shot was outstanding, as Briones was just getting to his feet; had the kick landed a quarter-second earlier, it would have been illegal. The victory was the first for the multi-national Team Werdum, who lost the season’s first four matches to Velasquez’s all-Mexican squad.
