Conor McGregor UFC knockout record before retiring I'm getting this record

Conor McGregor is determined to steal the UFC knockout record that both Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown and Derrick Lewis currently share.

Brown, 42, lived up to his moniker on Saturday night at UFC Charlotte, scoring his 13th career knockout inside the Octagon against fellow veteran Court McGee. With the win, Brown jumped to the top of the all-time knockouts list, sharing the running record with heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis. Following his victory, Brown vowed to continue pursuing highlight-reel finishes in hopes of one day being the sole owner of the illustrious record.

However, Irish superstar Conor McGregor may have something to say about that. Following Brown’s impressive first-round knockout, ‘The Notorious’ took to Twitter, sharing his desire to surpass both Matt Brown and Derrick Lewis before hanging up his gloves.

“Matt Brown, at 42 years of age, now holds the joint highest KO’s inside the UFC with 13KO’s,” McGregor tweeted after UFC Charlotte. “Him and ‘The Beast’ Lewis are tied. I hold 8 KO’s inside the UFC currently, at 34 years of age. I’m getting this record.”

Conor McGregor Has a Lot of Work Ahead of Him to Capture the UFC Knockouts Record

To achieve his goal, Conor McGregor will need to put in some serious work. He currently holds eight career knockouts in the UFC, but seven of those came in his first three years with the promotion. Since earning a second-round knockout against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, McGregor has only secured one KO which came against UFC Hall of Fame inductee Donald Cerrone in 2020. The win against ‘Cowboy’ also represents his only victory inside the Octagon since becoming a two-division champion in 2016.

After suffering a nasty leg break in the first round of his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, Conor McGregor is expected to make his return later this year in a highly anticipated clash with high-octane lightweight standout ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler. Before they step inside the Octagon, the pair will coach opposite one another on the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter, scheduled to begin airing on May 30.

McGregor is yet to re-enter the USADA testing pool for a required six months of screening leaving some fans speculating as to whether or not the bout will ever actually come to fruition.

Israel Adesanya touted at top-5 GOAT after UFC 287 he's spectacular

Off the back of his stunning UFC 287 knockout victory over Alex Pereira to reclaim the undisputed middlweight title, Israel Adesanya must now be included in the greatest fighter of all time conversation – reaching the top-5 of that list already, according to veteran welterweight, Matt Brown.

Adesanya, now a two-time undisputed middleweight champion under the promotion’s banner, managed to reclaim his undisputed title over the weekend in the main event of UFC 287, avenging a November knockout loss to the above-mentioned, Pereira.

Securing his first victory over the Sao Paulo striker in four attempts in Miami, Florida – City Kickboxing stalwart, Israel Adesanya dropped and finished Pereira with a cannoning second round knockout at UFC 287, minting himself as the undisputed king of the middleweights in the process.

Matt Brown touts the résumé of new champion, Israel Adesanya

Receiving major plaudits for swinging the tide against Pereira, Adesanya has been boasted as a top-5 greatest fighter of all time by the above-mentioned, Brown – who labelled the Nigerian-Kiwi as “spectacular”.

“I felt like this fight [against Alex Pereira], he (Israel Adesanya) just threw that out the window and said, ‘I’m not wrestling you, we’re doing a kickboxing match. And I’m f*cking you up.’” Matt Brown told MMA Fighting reporter, Damon Martin. “I commend him for that. That took balls for him to do that. That took courage – that took bravery. That took all the things that qualify a champion like Adesanya and I think you’ve got to star putting him in the top five GOAT list now.”

“It’s not like I’m basing this off one fight,” Brown continued. “Look at the guys he’s beat before [UFC 287]. He’s got a f*cking résumé. He’s just spectacular. It’s f*cking amazing what he’s doing. I’ll just leave it at time.”

Expected to welcome new challenges amid links to fights with both Dricus du Plessis, and the undefeated welterweight, Khamzat Chimaev next – Adesanya has distanced himself firmly from a third mixed martial arts contest with Pereira in the immediate aftermath of UFC 287.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to give us exciting new match bookings week by week, and this one is no different, as The Ultimate Fighter 7 contestant Matt Brown is slated to face The Ultimate Fighter 11 winner Court McGee at UFC Fight Night 225.

UFC Fight Night 225 is to go down on May 13, 2023, live from a to-be-determined venue and location.

As it currently sits, UFC Fight Night 225 has three bouts scheduled thus far.

The first of these match ups was announced about a week ago, a light-heavyweight affair between no. 5 ranked Anthony Smith and no. 7 ranked Johnny Walker. Then the UFC recently added a women’s bantamweight clash between Jessica-Rose Clark and Tainara Lisboa, and now of course Brown versus McGee at 170 lbs.

Matt Brown went 2-1 on his season of The Ultimate Fighter, securing both victories via knockout and only losing to eventual season champion Amir Sadollah, while McGee went 3-1 on the show with two submission victories en route to winning his season.

Both of these men have had a bit of a rocky road along the way, but both have also had incredible success through their careers.

Matt Brown defeated eventual multi-time Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima (TKO) before even joining the UFC roster.

Since joining the UFC roster, he became the first man to ever defeat Stephen Thompson (UD), who went on to fight for a UFC championship not once, but twice following, and he also boasts wins over the likes of Mike Swick (KO), Mike Pyle (KO), Erick Silva (TKO), Tim Means (guillotine choke), Diego Sanchez (KO), and Dhiego Lima (KO), which made him 2-0 against the Lima brothers with both victories coming via knockout.

Then we have Court McGee, who came to the UFC with a record of 11-1, only losing to UFC veteran Jeremy Horn in that time.

McGee initially went 5-2 through his first seven octagon appearances, one of those wins coming over future UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (SD), and one coming over longtime veteran Josh Neer (UD). He also defeated Claudio Silva (UD) recently, who was 5-1 in the UFC at the time of their encounter, and he’s gone 2-1 over his last three.

Who walks away from this welterweight clash the victor, Matt Brown or Court McGee?

According to one record-holding former UFC fighter, Jon Jones isn’t at risk of hampering his legacy should he continue avoiding Tom Aspinall.

The heavyweight title picture remains one of the most prominent and polarizing discussions currently at the surface of the MMA community, largely centering around the presence of two champions.

First came Jones, who was crowned in his divisional debut 18 months ago. More recently, Aspinall captured interim gold by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich, a matchup that came about at Madison Square Garden after an injury to Jones delayed his clash with the returning Stipe Miocic.

Since then, one man has recorded their first successful title defense, with Aspinall emphatically exacting his redemption against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in Manchester this past July.

But despite the presence of an interim titleholder who has already withstood one challenge, both Jones and the UFC remain steadfast on rescheduling the bout against Miocic. The pair are now expected to give their matchup a second go at reaching the cage this November, once again at the annual MSG-held pay-per-view.

That fact has left Aspinall and many fans, fighters, and pundits bemused. Some have even gone as far as to suggest that avoiding a unification fight with his interim counterpart will leave a negative, lasting impact on Jones’ legacy.

According to Matt Brown, news isn’t remembered long enough for that to be the case…

Brown Doubts Jones ‘Ducking’ Aspinall Will Be Remembered

During the latest episode of MMA Fighting’s The Fighter vs. The Writer, Brown gave his take on the current championship conversation at heavyweight.

“The Immortal,” who retired earlier this year as the record holder for most knockouts and finishes in UFC welterweight history, believes that should Jones defeat Miocic at UFC 309 and subsequently retire over meeting the challenge of Aspinall, it would simply be “forgotten” down the line.

“The fact is, it will be forgotten,” Brown said. “No matter what Tom does. If Jon retires after he beats Stipe, we’re in the age of news is news for a day. Maybe for a day or two, there will be some people on Reddit saying Jon was scared of Tom or whatever. By next week or whatever…he’ll still be the greatest ever. No one’s going to be like, ‘Oh, Jon’s not the greatest ever because he didn’t fight Tom Aspinall.’ I don’t think a single person’s going to say that. They’re just going to talk a little bit of silly stuff for a couple of days and it will be completely forgotten.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember Jon ever saying, ‘I’m out here now to try to be the greatest heavyweight.’ He’s like, ‘I’m the greatest fighter, I got that in the bag. I’m the greatest fighter of all time. I’m going to fight a couple heavyweight fights. Yeah, I might be a little bit picky about who I fight. I’m the greatest fighter of all time, b*tch. I get to pick my fights now,’” Brown continued. “I don’t remember him ever saying, ‘I’m out here to attempt to prove I can also be the greatest heavyweight.’ He’s like, ‘No, I’m moving up to get a couple paydays, getting some big fights, having some fun, not have to cut weight, and move on with my life.’”

Talk of Jones’ potential GOAT status has been a prominent topic as of late, largely thanks to UFC CEO Dana White’s staunch campaigning for the heavyweight kingpin to be moved back to top position in the pound-for-pound pecking order.

It remains to be seen whether Aspinall will get his wish to share the cage with Jones. But as Brown noted, the Rochester native appears to be paying more attention to his overall place in MMA lore as opposed to a heavyweight legacy.
