There has been a lot made of former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields’ run in with UFC welterweight talent Mike Jackson at the UFC Performance Institute over the last week, Matt Brown being the latest to chime in on the matter.
For those of you who are unaware, Jackson and Shields got into it on Twitter, with Jackson calling the former UFC title challenger a Nazi, as well as a white nationalist. Shields did not take too kindly to this choice of words, and he confronted Jackson on site, as he claimed he would do.
Shields took Jackson down, mounted him, and got a few shots off before being pulled off and forced to leave the PI.
Matt Brown, the fighter with the most finishes in UFC welterweight history, had the following to say in regards to their altercation:
“I mean more power to Jake. This guy (Jackson) was talking shit to him and I know Jake says some fucking crazy shit on Twitter. I’ve followed him for a while. He says some shit that no one’s going to agree with but you don’t go calling people Nazis and shit. Jake is far from a Nazi.
“He might say some shit you don’t agree with. He might be a little out there on some things according to you, or according to someone else, but come on man. You know you can’t say that shit and then see Jake Shields in person and (act like) he’s not going to do anything. So fuck Mike Jackson.”
“You’re a UFC fighter, too. You are in the UFC, too. You’re an open book. That’s an open invite to fuck you up or to fight you. Especially at the UFC PI. What do you think Jake’s going to do? More power to Jake. Fuck that guy.
“If you’re a UFC fighter, you’re opening yourself to those consequences. You’re going to talk shit to another UFC fighter, when you guys see each other you’re probably either going to be fighting or he’s going to try to fight you. You see this all the time. Guys are ready to throw down any second.”
Jackson has decided to press charges on Shields for the assault, with a likely court case pending for a future date.
Was Jake Shields in the right, or was he in the wrong to force a fight upon Mike Jackson?

Former UFC welterweight contender and past title challenger, Jake Shields has addressed his publicized altercation with fellow fighter, Mike Jackson at the UFC Performance Institute, claiming that he will attempt to “smooth” things over with the facility, as well as once more denying allegations from Jackson that he is a “Nazi” and “white nationalist”.
Shields, a renowned grappler and former Rumble on the Rock, Elite XC, Shooto, and Strikeforce champion, has yet to feature professionally since he dropped a first round knockout loss to Ray Cooper III back in October 2018 under the PFL (Professional Fighters League) banner.
Responding to his altercation with Jackson on his official Twitter account, Shields, a native of Mountain Ranch, California, admitted that he was “out of line” to confront Jackson at the facility.
“I know I was out of line, so hopefully, I’ll smooth it over with the PI,” Jake Shields tweeted. “I know I shouldn’t have done that. But the guy had for months just been popping on my Twitter and calling me a Nazi, which is complete defamation.”
“I do business with Jewish people, and so they’re calling me a Nazi, and people that know me know I’m not that way, but what if I didn’t know these people I was working with?” Jake Shields tweeted. “I could lose big business deals if he’s sitting there telling people I’m a Nazi and a white supremacist. It’s such a (sic) slander. I could sue him for defamation.”
Shields further claimed that those within the mixed martial arts community, and fellow fighters in particular supported his “humiliation” of Jackson.
“100% of UFC fighters supported me humiliating Mike Jackson,” Jake Shields tweeted. “Both of his coaches said he deserved to get smacked and won’t try and protect him. You would think this would wake him up but instead, he’s just getting more racist and deranged.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Former Strikeforce and Elite XC champion Jake Shields took it upon himself to deliver a little gym justice to a fighter he dubbed a “black nationalist” on Twitter.
In a video clip uploaded by Shields, the former UFC welterweight title contender can be seen grappling with another individual. Shields is in side control before moving into full mount and delivering bare-knuckle strikes to the head of the other man before onlookers stepped in to stop the scuffle. According to Jake Shields, the individual he was scrapping with is professional mixed martial artist Mike ‘The Truth’ Jackson.
“Finally ran into the bitch Mike Jackson He quickly discovered the difference between calling people Nazis In person vs on Twitter This racist is lucky so many people were there to save his pathetic racist ass,” Shields tweeted along with the video clip.
“Somebody get this motherf*cker off me,” begged Jackson moments before spectators stepped in to stop the assault.
Jake Shields Offers Brief Explanation For Physical Altercation
Jake Shields followed up his initial tweet with another, explaining who Mike Jackson is and what allegedly led to their altercation.
“For those who don’t know @TheTruthJackson is fighter who is a black nationalist He’s 3/4 white and grew playing lacrosse He’s called me a nazi and said white people are no better than cock roaches”
If Mike Jackson’s name sounds familiar, you’ve likely seen him inside the Octagon at some point. ‘The Truth’ has competed under the UFC banner on four separate occasions between 2016 and 2022 with the most recent coming in October where he lost via first-round knockout against Pete Rodriguez. In 2018, Jackson faced pro wrestling icon CM Punk at UFC 225. Jackson won the bout, sending CM Punk into early retirement, but the fight was later overturned to a no-contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana.
