Mike Perry has attempted to get ahead of the news cycle by releasing a statement denying any physical abuse of his ex-wife, Danielle Nickerson.

According to Perry, an unknown media outlet is set to run a story that details his alleged abuse of Nickerson. ‘Platinum’ claimed he never “put my hands on” Nickerson but did admit to having an issue with alcohol that led to him saying some things he is not proud of during their brief marriage.

Mike Perry’s Full Statement

“It’s come to my attention that a media organization will be running a story in reference to a past issue with my ex wife. I would like to address this here now. First and foremost I did not put my hands on my ex at any point in our short term marriage. Secondly, I have already admitted to having an issue with alcohol, and I have been a part of an intensive rehab program that was able to help address not only that but also helped me with anger management. After the completion of the course, I realized that I had said some things in the past that do not put me and what I stand for in the best of light and for that I apologize. I am now in a loving relationship where I am looking forward and excited to welcoming my first born. I’m hopeful, my ex can move on and find peace as I have.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Perry has had a mixed year. The 170lb knockout artist is set to welcome his first child with Latory Gonzalez and has also picked up a big win over Mickey Gall inside the Octagon. However, he found himself on the wrong side of the law earlier this year. Perry was accused of assaulting three people at a Texas restaurant. Shortly after it was reported his ex-wife had filed for a restraining order – the application was denied.  ‘Platinum’ is set to square off against Robbie Lawler at UFC 255 on November 21.

It looks like Darren Till won’t be the only one missing out on being in Mike Perry’s corner.

The always exuberant Perry – who has become a fan favourite for his antics both inside and outside of the cage – recently announced that he would be auctioning off a cornerman spot for his fight against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 255. This comes after his girlfriend, Latory Gonzalez, served as his sole cornerman in his victory over Mickey Gall.

The offer drew interest from a number of bidders, from MMA fans to adult film actresses. UFC middleweight contender Darren Till even offered a $5,000 bid, though Perry himself eventually shot that down.

Now it appears that the spot will remain empty, as UFC President Dana White scoffed at the idea during his media scrum.

“Yeah, no, you can’t do that,” White said when asked if the winner of Perry’s auction would need clearance from the athletic commission. “You can’t do that.”

It remains unclear why White shut the idea down. The UFC has already allowed Gonzalez to act as a cornerman without any formal background, as well as Diego Sanchez’s head coach Joshua Fabia.

UFC 255 takes place on November 21. It is set to be headlined by a pair of flyweight championship bouts, as Deiveson Figueiredo takes on Alex Perez, and Valentina Shevchenko battles Jennifer Maia.

Popular welterweight contender Mike Perry has shut down any chance of his long-time rival Darren Till being in his corner when he faces off against former 170lb champ Robbie Lawler at UFC 255.

Perry shocked the world last week when he claimed to be auctioning off a place in his corner team for his fight on November 21. ‘Platinum’ hasn’t been seen in action since he beat Mikey Gall by unanimous decision, snapping a two-fight losing streak at UFC Vegas 4 back in June.

For the fight, Perry took the unusual step of opting against having a traditional corner team and instead relying on his girlfriend to give him advice between rounds. He seems willing so go one step further by inviting a paying stranger to help him out against one of the best welterweight fighters of all-time next month.

Upon hearing of the opportunity to corner Perry, Till immediately tabled a $5000 bid and even started a GoFundMe page to help raise the money for his UFC 255 trip. The target was set at £25,000 and Till insisted any extra cash would go directly to Perry.

Ibrahim Kawa who manages Perry confirmed on social media that a deal was pretty much done for ‘The Gorilla’ to join Perry’s corner. However, the man himself has now revealed that he and his team had just been trolling. Till was never in the running to corner him at UFC 255.

“I was never considering that weak ass 5k offer for the corner spot,” Perry wrote on Twitter. “My manager was just trolling y’all. @darrentill2 could’ve offered 50k and I wouldn’t have accepted his offer. The media runs the mma game tho so they were just getting off on drama.”

Who do you think Mike Perry will pick to corner him at UFC 255?

Over the past year Mike Perry and Darren Till have been involved in a war of words online and Perry doesn’t seem to be too impressed with Till’s comments towards him. Perry took to Twitter to call Till out and tells him that he’ll be “spitting out teeth.”

Perry said “You said it years ago Darren Till and you were right. You and me were meant to fight. I’m going up to middleweight and I’ll be small and fast and you’ll be big and slow. I’m gonna ruin your life. You’ll be spitting out teeth much sooner than expected…”

The former Welterweight title challenger seemed to be destined to fight Perry back in 2017 when Till called out Perry after his TKO win over Donald Cerrone, however that fight never materialised with Till fighting Stephen Thompson then Tyron Woodley for the Welterweight strap and eventually move up to Middleweight, while Perry has had a tough outing going 3-5 since that call out. Till also said recently that he’s willing to pay 5000 dollars to be in Perry’s corner for his next bout, however it seems that Perry has no interest in that.

Perry is looking for a second victory in a row when he fights Robbie Lawler at UFC 255 in Las Vegas, while “The Gorilla” is looking to bounce back from his unanimous decsison loss over former Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker when he fights Jack Hermansson on Decemeber 5th with the fight reported to be also in the UFC Apex in Vegas.
