UFC welterweight Mike Perry has posted a throwback clip in which he knocks out a man who he claims harassed and assaulted him.

‘Platinum’ Perry has 11 wins by KO/TKO in his professional mixed martial arts career. Now, it appears he has at least one more based on the video he posted to Instagram.

In the clip, the-28-year-old fighter and the man can be seen squaring off, as a woman tries to intervene. As the man is distracted by something else, Perry throws a punch and knocks him out cold. Alongside the video, Perry wrote the following message to explain his actions and warn people to check the way they approach him.

Goin to the beach boy ! #Tbt #ViralChallenge #YOLO He’d actually just punched me in the mouth. (Why do you think they started recording) I created space, he followed with his fists balled. As I stepped into position around the girl he either flinched or got distracted from what his drunk ass was doing which was harassing me. He wouldn’t stop so I ended it. I threw the jab/hook split seconds before he looked to the left. I could’ve continued to ground and pound him to death but walked away and spoke to the police. For any of you acting like you’ve ever done anything for me please believe you play with fire you’re gonna get burned. If you can mind your space and social distance yourself from my personal bubble than anything can be resolved through conversation. Judge me all you want you bunch of cry to get your way hypocrite’s but I live an honest life and am the most truthful person I know. I share my life with all of you watching so please believe if you feel like you want to butt into anything you were not involved in than you, yo mama, yo daddy, yo wife, husbands, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and grandma’s and grandpa’s can get these pro fighter hands too since it’s ok to hit me but not ok when I hit back. Check yo selves !

Mike Perry believes he would have been a UFC champion by now. If he fought in the lower weight classes, that is.

Perry is one of the most exciting fighters in the promotion with 11 of his 13 career wins coming by way of knockout. However, “Platinum” is enduring a rough patch right now with five defeats in his last seven outings.

His last knockout win came back in 2017 when he faced short-notice opponent Alex Reyes while Perry also suffered his first-ever defeat by knockout when he was TKO’d by Geoff Neal at UFC 245 in December.

If instead, Perry moved down to lightweight — the weight class which he first started competing in — things would be different according to him:

“I could easily be champ if I could fight in any weight class lower than welterweight but I got too much power to get down there with you little guys.”

That remains to be seen though Perry did hint at a move down to lightweight as recently as last month.

Interestingly, UFC lightweight Paul Felder responded to Perry asking him how much he currently weighed:

Perry defeated Felder via split decision when the latter moved up a weight class on short notice back in the summer of 2018.

Maybe “The Irish Dragon” — who suffered a broken arm during that fight — is looking for a rematch at 155 pounds?

Mike Perry didn’t know if he was hungover or contracted COVID-19 on the weekend.

The fan-favorite welterweight took to social media to give his fans an update on how he is doing with the COVID-19 pandemic going on and apparently it is not going well.

“Omg I either am hungover from day drinking or I have corona and am not goin to make it. I just wanna day … F**K YOU,” Perry wrote on social media.

It is obviously a very serious time for the world as countries are in lockdown as the world is trying to contain the virus. It has shut down the sports world as well with the UFC postponing three events and leagues like the MLB, NBA, NHL all suspending play.

Mike Perry is coming off a first-round TKO loss to Geoff Neal at UFC 245. Before that, he suffered a decision loss to Vicente Luque. The fan-favorite has recently hinted at a move down to lightweight and why he is thinking that is simple.

“For performance reasons and health reasons, if I can do it healthily and live more healthy, which I’ve been doing the total opposite of that, it’s kind of funny,” Perry said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show in February (via BJPENN.com). “I’m always in good shape no matter what’s going on, but sometimes I have pains and injuries, it’s almost like it takes my breath away. Some people might confuse that for cardio but I’m in great shape. Cardio is mental, it’s how you run your system, you have to know how much fuel you have, you can’t be putting it all on the gas. I’m just thinking about fighting like always, man.”

When he will return to the Octagon and at what weight class is to be seen.

Welterweight contender Mike Perry emerged victorious against Al Iaquinta at Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground 11. The event touted as the future of grappling by the former middleweight title challenger was headlined by a tag-team match up between Kyle Boehm and Vinny Magalhaes against Craig Jones and Nicky Rodriguez. However, it was the UFC stars who enjoyed a heated rivalry who attracted the most attention.

In round one it was ‘Raging Al’ started off better securing a takedown almost immediately. Perry responded well off his back though, going after an arm bar submission which forced his opponent to slam for the escape. Back on the feet Iaquinta again secured the takedown and was again forced to defend submission attempts – this time a leg lock. After some time trying to secure the submission Perry eventually released and the two fighters ended regulation time in a stalemate on the feet.

The first over time saw Iaquinta start on his opponents back, however he was unable to secure the upper body and Perry quickly escaped. ‘Platinum’ also opted to start on his opponents back and did a much better job at maintaining position. He worked hard to secure the rear-naked-choke but ultimately had to settle for two minutes of top position.

In the second period, Iaquinta
again started on the back and surprising went after a twister submission.
However, after just 17 seconds the referee said Perry was out of trouble and
awarded him the escape. Iaquinta kept the bout alive by quickly escaping
himself – just 23 seconds was all it took to get out of Perry’s seatbelt position.

During the final overtime period Iaquinta started from the spider armbar setup and nearly extended the limb, but a gutsy effort saw Perry work out of the submission in just 14 seconds for another quick escape. Despite being thrown off during his attacking period in 10 seconds Perry had already done enough to secure the win by fastest escape.

Mike Perry’s manager Abraham Kawa responded to his client’s controversial use of the n-word on social media.

Perry received plenty of backlash recently for using the n-word while beefing with Hollywood actor Michael Jai White on Twitter. “Platinum” has claimed in the past that he gets a pass due to online DNA tests showing him to be 2 percent black.

However, it did not go down well with many in the mixed martial arts community, including women’s strawweight fighter Angela Hill. His tweets have since remained on his account with no warnings or disciplining from the UFC.

Many would have figured his management would have had a word with him as well. But for Kawa, he doesn’t control his clients and what they post on social media. All he can do is give them advice:

“One thing I can’t do, and I’ve been been blamed many times in the past for, I don’t run their social media,” Kawa told MMA Junkie. “I can’t tell people what to do and not do; I can only give them advice. I can show them, ‘Hey, this is where you’re going to lose out on things.’

“In this case, Mike, if we would take the time to actually listen to Mike, you would understand where he was coming from.”

Even though he personally doesn’t use the word himself, Kawa believes Perry’s upbringing and background should be considered.

Regardless, he can’t change what Perry feels is right to post.

“I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do,” Kawa explained. “So I don’t want to put myself out there and say what he’s doing is the right thing to do. But for him and the way he grew up and the way his beginning was, it’s right. So, I get it. For the person who is not used to that and for the person who doesn’t get it, for me, I don’t go around doing that just the same way. I may have in the past and whatnot. But for him, for what he feels is right, it’s hard for me to change that in one shot.

“He would have to go to jail for that. It would have to be a law that says you’re doing something wrong. That’s the way he sees it. He feels that everybody else is being closed-minded, where he’s the one trying to educate everybody. And it just doesn’t come out that way. So I understand the hurt.”
