Ex-UFC standout Paige VanZant made his professional boxing debut on Saturday night, squaring off with reigning and defending Misfits Boxing middleweight champion Elle Brooke at MF & DAZN: X Series 15.

After building an 8-5 record in mixed martial arts, VanZant made the move to bare-knuckle in 2021, coming up short in back-to-back fights against Britain Hart and Rachael Ostovich.

Now, ’12 Gauge’ will try her hand at the sweet science against X-rated film star and online influencer Elle Brooke.

Though she’s primarily known for her work in the adult entertainment industry, Brooke has proven to be a formidable foe in the boxing ring, amassing an impressive 4-1 record, including a third-round knockout of Andrea-Jane Bunker in January to claim the MF middleweight strap.

From the opening bell, Paige VanZant came out looking to establish her jab and use her reach advantage. However, Brooke did an excellent job of ducking her way in and unleashing her right hand, which caught PVZ clean near the end of the first, sitting down the former UFC star.

VanZant answered the referee’s count, but there was not enough time for Brooke to inflict more damage before the end of the round.

Coming out for the second, Brooke appeared to slow down a bit, allowing VanZant to climb her way back into the fight. ’12 Gauge’ didn’t put much on her punches, but the sheer volume was enough to make it a much more competitive round. The remaining rounds would be fairly competitive with Brooke gaining a clear advantage in the fourth with a nice variety of power strikes compared to VanZant’s love-taps.

After five rounds of back-and-forth action, we went to the scorecards where the judges would all but guarantee that a rematch between the two would be coming later this year.

Emanating from the NRG Arena in Houston, Texas, MF & DAZN: X Series 15 will feature a middleweight championship main event as Brooke, the reigning and defending titleholder, puts her belt on the line in Misfits’ first-ever female headliner.

Before the two blonde bombshells step inside the ring and make history in The Lone Star State, VanZant and Brooke stepped on the scale during Friday afternoon’s official weigh-in ceremony.

Competing under the Kingpyn and Misfits Boxing banners, Elle Brooke has amassed a solid 4-1 record, including her title-winning performance against Andrea-Jane Bunker in January. Thus far, all of Brooke’s boxing bouts have been exhibitions. Her scrap with VanZant will be the first professional fight of his career.

As for Paige VanZant, the social media sensation has a significant advantage over her opponent when it comes to experience. ’12 Gauge’ competed inside the Octagon from 2014 to 2020, earning victories over the likes of Felice Herrig, ‘Rowdy’ Bec Rawlings, and Rachael Ostovich.

Walking away from the promotion on a 1-3 skid, VanZant signed with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, making her debut in 2021. Sadly, things did not improve for ’12 Gauge’ as she lost back-to-back fights inside the squared circle. Though she has expressed interest in knuckling up for a third and likely final time, she has not locked down an official return date.

In addition to Elle Brooke vs. Paige VanZant, fans will also see the return of former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell as he takes on Canadian influencer Tristan Hamm, best known for his first-round shellacking of Rodney Petersen Jr. AKA ‘Not Logan Paul.’

Also fighting in the card is a name ONE Championship fans may recognize — Bi Nguyen. Going by the moniker ‘Killer Bee,’ Nguyen is one of the most accomplished fighters competing at the event, having 15 mixed martial arts bouts under her belt. With more than a decade of experience, Nguyen has gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in women’s MMA, such as Stamp Fairtex, Jihin Radzuan, Ritu Phogat, Jenelyn Olsim, and Lin Heqin.

Paige VanZant vows to return to BKFC after boxing fight with Elle Brooke: ‘They will definitely see me again’

Paige VanZant is set to return to combat sports in the main event of Misfits 15 on May 25 as she will box Elle Brooke.

VanZant hasn’t competed since July of 2021 when she lost to Rachael Ostovich in BKFC. There were talks of her returning to BKFC this year, but the former UFC fighter has signed a deal with Misfits to box, and she says that is a multi-fight deal.

“Misfits actually signed me to a multi-fight contract,” Paige VanZant said to MMAFighting. “So I think there’s rumors they want me to fight again in Dubai, at one of their cards. I’m here to stay. Of course there’s other opportunities, I still definitely will be in BKFC. I absolutely love the promotion. I loved bare-knuckle boxing. So this is just another of those boxing matches and it’s really, really exciting.”

VanZant says boxing is exciting to her right now, which is why she decided to take the deal with Misfits boxing.

“There was a reason I went into bare-knuckle boxing out of the UFC,” Paige VanZant explained. “It was something that I wanted to do. I wanted to be immersed in boxing. It wasn’t just that BKFC excited me. It was being in the boxing world and working on my striking and having fun with just striking, honestly. BKFC was the one who came with the offer first and I was like, f*ck yeah, I don’t mind taking the gloves off.

“So now I have an offer in boxing with gloves on. It’s like taking one little element out of the puzzle. For me, I’ve always boxed for my training. I’ve been doing it my entire life. Finally, I got a real boxing match.”

VanZant will be making her boxing debut when she headlines Misfits 15 against Brooke.

VanZant’s focus right now is on boxing and competing in Misfits, but the plan is to return to BKFC in the future.

“Oh absolutely [I will fight in BKFC again],” VanZant said. “I believe I still have one more fight on my contract with them. So they were nice enough to let me come do a boxing match with gloves on. I offered it to my opponent if she wanted to do bare-knuckle, she said no. So BKFC will definitely see me again.”

VanZant is 0-2 in BKFC, as she lost to Britain Hart in her debut and then lost to Rachael Ostovich in her second fight, as she dropped both by decision.

After jumping the gun earlier this week, Misfits Boxing has officially announced that Paige VanZant will make her promotional debut against Elle Brooke.

On Thursday, Brooke was infuriated when the promotion inadvertently leaked the surprise headliner during the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia press event. But now, the fight is officially official with the promotion revealing that Brooke will put her MFB middleweight championship on the line against ’12 Gauge’ at MF & DAZN: X Series 15 on Saturday, May 25 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

“X Series 15 will go down in history as the night the female division, in all of crossover boxing, was taken to a whole new level,” Misfits Co-President Mams Taylor said in a statement. “It’s a phenomenal match-up and I cannot wait for it because May 25 will be yet another landmark night for the X Series.”

Making her Misfits Boxing debut last year, OnlyFans model and adult actress Elle Brooke claimed the middleweight title with a third-round knockout win over AJ Bunker in January.

Meanwhile, Paige VanZant is best known for her six-year-long run under the UFC banner, going 5-4 and earning victories over the likes of Felice Herrig, ‘Rowdy’ Bec Rawlings, and Rachael Ostovich. PVZ walked away from the promotion in 2020 in search of greener pastures.

It didn’t take long for her to land a lucrative deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Unfortunately, VanZant failed to live up to the hype that followed her into the ring, losing back-to-back bouts under the BKFC banner against Britain Hart and the aforementioned Rachael Ostovich.

’12 Gauge’ will be looking for her first victory since her second-round submission victory over Ostovich at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in January 2019.

Also scheduled for the Misfits Boxing card is a co-main event fight between former NFL All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell and Tristan Hamm, who made his promotional debut earlier this year with a 99-second knockout of ‘Not Logan Paul‘ Rodney Petersen. Bell fought for MFB in 2023, winning unanimously over YouTuber JMX.

Bell’s fight with Hamm will be a quarterfinal match in the Misfits Cruiserweight Title Tournament.

Since 2022, Misfits has held numerous influencer-led boxing events, many of them headlined by social media star KSI (real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji). Most recently, KSI faced Tommy Fury, the half-brother of reigning WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in October. Fury won the bout via decision, but the lackluster performances of both fighters were heavily criticized.

Five months prior, the PBA overturned KSI’s knockout victory over Joe Fournier due to the YouTuber’s use of an illegal elbow.

According to a post on the PBA’s official X account, the decision was made to suspend Misfits “in the interest of boxer safety”, accusing the promotion of “clear violations of the PBA’s rules and regulations” and “bringing boxing into disrepute”

Misfits Boxing Ready to Align with a new governing body

Mams Taylor, the Co-President of Misfits Boxing, had already publicly announced their intention to align with a new governing body.

The PBA levied a similar decision against another influencer boxing promotion, Kingpyn Boxing in April. “PBA has withdrawn sanction from the upcoming KingpynBoxing tournament and suspended Kingpyn’s PBA Promoters license until further notice.” The PBA did not explain their decision at the time.

Three months later, Kingpyn Boxing competitor Daniella Hemsley sent the influencer scene into a tizzy when she flashed her bare breasts following a win over Aleksandra Daniel. The incident offered a prime example of why some fight fans love influencer boxing while others absolutely loathe it.

Misfits Boxing recently announced its first event of 2024, emanating from the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England on January 20. The card will feature OnlyFans model Elle Brooke who last competed under the Kingpyn Boxing banner as part of the promotion’s High Stakes Tournament last year.
