Jon Jones Being Sought By Albuquerque Police for Role In Alleged Hit and Run

To loosely quote Dave Chappelle, “Man, Jon Jones is f*ckin up.”

Rumors started circulating last night that the light heavyweight champion had been involved in yet another automobile mishap — this time, a hit and run accident in which a 20 year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized — in his resident Albuquerque. After initially denying that Jones was the man being sought after for the hit-and-run, Albuquerque police later released a statement that reads:

“The Albuquerque Police Department is actively seeking UFC Fighter Jon Jones for questioning in regards to his possible involvement in a hit-and-run accident, near the intersection of Juan Tabo and Southern, in Southeast Albuquerque early this morning, April 26, 2015.”

While Jones has apparently not been seen or heard from since the time of the alleged incident, the UFC has since released a statement in response, which you can check out after the jump.

We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.

This is of course, just the latest in what has become a string of legal troubles for Jones. In 2012, he was arrested in Binghamton, NY on DUI charges after wrapping his Bentley around a telephone pole with two female passengers in the vehicle. After pleading guilty, Jones was fined $1,000 and his driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Back in December, Jones once again found himself in the hot seat when it was revealed that he had tested positive for cocaine a month prior to his UFC 182 title fight with Daniel Cormier. Because cocaine was/is not considered a banned out-of-competition drug (or shouldn’t have been tested for in the first place), Jones avoided any possible suspensions or legal issues. He did agree to enter rehab, though, and was magically cured of his addiction in 24 hours.

Wow. A lot of information to take in right now, but we’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Lightweight Contender Bobby Green’s *Other* Brother Was Shot Last Night

The continuously trying story of UFC lightweight contender Bobby “King” Green has taken yet another unfortunate turn.

Back in May, Green lost his younger brother, Mitchell Davis Jr., in a drive-by shooting that Green believes was related to Davis’ previous gang ties. In the aftermath of his brother’s death (which also saw two of his uncles and his cousin shot), a hit was allegedly placed on Green himself. Even for a foster child who grew up in a particularly seedy section of San Bernardino, CA — one who had witnessed countless gang atrocities throughout his upbringing — this was a particularly horrific development to say the least.

And now, it appears that Green’s *other* brother has was shot last night as well. The heartbreaking news comes from Green’s Facebook page:

While the condition of Green’s brother remains unclear as of this write-up, the comments on his FB status seem to indicate that he is at least alive.

Following his win over Josh Thomson in July, Green told MMAJunkie that he had yet to even mourn his brother’s passing due to the time constraints of his hurried fight camp. In truth, he had only accepted the short notice fight to honor his memory:

The only reason I took the fight is to give my brother that honor, to put him on the front stage and say he was a good kid. He was a great guy. He was my closest soldier to me – my little, my baby brother. When I go home, he was the first person I was going to see.

I’m going to go visit his grave and really express my hurt. I’ve been so busy and so occupied – because I only took the fight on 12-days’ notice – that you don’t have time to do all these different things. So I’m just ready now.

I’m going to take my time to really cry for my brother. I didn’t really get the time to share that.

Just an awful string of events for a guy who can’t seem to catch a break. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Bobby.

Report: Antonio Nogueira Narrowly Escapes Ongoing Hostage Situation in Brasilia Hotel

In a story eerily reminiscent of the movie Swordfish (minus Halle Berry’s world-renowned torso acting skills), it seems as if Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira just narrowly avoided an ongoing hostage situation in a Brasilian hotel this morning.

According to Globo, the MMA legend and his brother were staying at the Saint Peter Hotel in Brasilia, Brazil over the weekend, when they (along with nearly 300 other hotel guests) were evacuated from the building by fireman due to an apparent “gas leak.” The situation was far more severe in reality, as a crazed gunman had actually taken a hotel employee hostage on the 13th floor*, handcuffed him, and strapped a bomb to his chest (see photo above).

The incident began around 8 a.m. this morning, when the suspect was spotted climbing up the side of the building by several concerned guests. While information is limited, it is believed that the gunman has a grudge with the Brazilian government and “is calling for ‘the fall of Dilma’ among other things.” Dilma, of course, refers to Brazil’s 36th and current President Dilma Rousseff.

A spokesman for the Brasilian police stated that it has not yet been confirmed whether the white cylinders seen on the hostage’s vest are actual bombs or not, but that “Security evacuated the hotel and three negotiators are trying to resolve the situation peacefully. A bomb disposal unit is on the scene.”

We will update you on this situation as it develops.

CP After Dark: One-Time UFC Vet Homer Moore Arrested For Role in 1999 Drug-Related Murder

So this is pretty f*cked up.

If you happen to be a hardcore MMA fan with a near-perfect memory dating back roughly a dozen years, you might remember Homer “Rock” Moore from his lone appearance at UFC 34: High Voltage, which resulted in a second round loss via armbar to Evan Tanner. No? Well, perhaps you might remember Moore from his notable scraps with such UFC veterans as Chael Sonnen, Dan Severn, Jeremy Horn, and Joe Riggs among others. Ringing any bells?

If you still are coming up short in regards to Mr. Moore, fret not, for you’ll surely remember his name after you read this. Earlier today, Moore was arrested in connection with a particularly brutal murder of a 19-year-old man in Tempe, Arizona that took place back in 1999. According to AZ Central, Moore was allegedly one of several men who helped lure Karam Hussein Jabbar into a townhouse as part of a drug deal, only to suffocate Jabbar and stuff him into the trunk of a car that they then abandoned in a grocery store parking lot. Some fifteen years later, police were finally able to gather enough evidence to arrest him:

The case began in August 1999 when Jabbar, a 19-year-old retail salesman from Scottsdale, was found in the trunk of a vehicle with his hands and feet bound and a bag over his head in the parking lot of a grocery store in Mesa.

According to police, Jabbar was set up by Moore.

Moore and Jabbar met through a mutual acquaintance, and Jabbar was going to take marijuana to Moore and a group of others. But Moore and the others planned to rob Jabbar, he said. The group took Jabbar to a townhouse in Tempe, where the murder took place.

Police found the body after complaints of a smell coming from the abandoned vehicle were reported.

The Medical Examiner’s Office determined Jabbar’s cause of death was asphyxiation, police said.

Moore was said to be known for drugs throughout the club scene.

According to the article, Moore was questioned by detectives in 1999 when Jabbar’s body was originally discovered, but was later cleared when no physical evidence against him was found.

Moore last competed in March of 2013, where he scored a first round KO over Vincent Lawler at All Powers Combat 11.

There’s not much else to say, really, other than that the family of Jabbar can finally have a little closure in what remains a horrific and ongoing crime. We will have more on this story as it develops.

Matt Grice’s Condition Steadily Improving Following Skull Reattachment Surgery [VIDEO]

Although we bestowed the honor to Robbie Lawler at this year’s Potato Awards, it would be hard to vote against the idea of Matt Grice as “Comeback Fighter of the Year” in retrospect. Grice, who was left in critical condition following a horrific car accident back in September, continues to steadily recover from his traumatic wreck since undergoing successful skull reattachment surgery last month.

Proclaimed “a walking miracle” by his medical team, Grice’s come back from almost certain death is inspiring to say the least, especially following a year that saw Shane Del Rosario and Leandro Souza (among others) suddenly pass away.

Oklahoma City’s News 9 recently sat down for an interview with Grice, and we’ve placed the video above. To hear him speaking so fluently after what he’s been through is simply unbelievable. Check it out, and continue to send Grice your best on Twitter.
