King Mo Knocks Out Roger Gracie at Strikeforce.Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal returned to the Strikeforce cage with a spectacular victory on Saturday night, winning a first-round knockout of Roger Gracie.

King Mo is an excellent wrestler, and Gracie is arguably the best Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner in the world, but this fight wasn’t fought on the ground at all. Instead, it was just a stand-up battle between two guys who were a little out of their elements. But after four and a half minutes without a lot of damage being done by either man, Lawal did what he had to do, landing a hard overhand right to Gracie’s ear and knocking him to the canvas. With one more punch on the ground, Lawal knocked Gracie out.

“The fight felt good,” Lawal said afterward. “I’m a fighter, man, I come here to fight.”

The victory improved Lawal’s professional record to 8-1, and showed that he’s back from a knee injury that has kept him out of the cage for more than a year. It’s good to see King Mo back in action, and Lawal said he’d like another shot at Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, who beat him in his last fight.

For Gracie, who falls to 4-1, it’s hard to see what happens from here. Gracie is a great grappler, but his stand-up skills are still rudimentary, and after that vicious knockout, he may be better suited to staying in grappling, where you can’t get punched in the face.

‘Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov’ Press Conference Highlight Video

Man, it’s been a crazy week, huh? Between the UFC 137 lineup shuffle and the announcement of Alistair Overeem’s entry into the UFC, you may have forgotten that the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semi-Finals are going down tomorrow night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. We’ll be liveblogging the action starting at 10:30 p.m. ET, so don’t be a stranger.

MMAFighting was on the scene yesterday for the “Barnett vs. Kharitonov” press conference, and released the above highlight video. Skip to the 1:33 mark to see Daniel Cormier give away his gameplan against Antonio Silva; lots of laughs there. Later, King Mo says what everybody’s thinking: “I was hoping more people [would be] out here, more media, and more questions, but really I guess y’all don’t care about us that much. I’m just keeping it real. Me and Roger [Gracie] gonna put on a good fight, it’s gonna be a good card. I think people are gonna miss out on it because everybody’s worried about other issues instead of the fights this weekend. I’m just being real.”

Also on the card, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza defends his middleweight belt against Luke Rockhold — who hasn’t competed since February 2010 due to injuries — and Maximo Blanco makes his promotional debut against Pat Healy. The complete lineup is after the jump.

Muhammad Lawal was on last night’s episode of Sportsnet’s MMA Connected and talked a little bit about his baby — a tricked out cherry red 1980 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

Here’s King Mo’s description of the car he calls his everyday ride:

"[It’s got] air bags, 22-inch rims, screens, ostrich interior — all that. It’s nice, dog," Lawal explained. "I can hit the switches and hop up on three front-to-back, side-to-side."

Strikeforce held a press conference yesterday at the Toyota Center in advance of its August 21 event that will take place at the venue in Houston, Texas. Ben and I were both unable to attend since, well,  neither of us wanted to, but thankfully KBME Sports Talk 790 was on hand to catch what we may have missed.

The videos are after the jump.
