UFC middleweight Nick Maximov finds humor in online trolls who attack him for supposedly not having an entertaining style in the Octagon.

Maximov is set to face former The Ultimate Fighter prospect Andre Petroski at UFC Vegas 54 tonight. It’s a matchup between two strong wrestlers, particularly Maximov who has shown relentless grappling throughout his recent performances.

In Maximov’s last win over Punahele Soriano, he earned a series of takedowns throughout three rounds en route to a split decision victory. While it was an impressive showing from Maximov, it was arguably not a fan-friendly approach to his co-main event slot.

During his UFC Vegas 54 pre-fight press conference, Maximov explained why he doesn’t take criticisms of his style personally.

“It’s hilarious. I troll people, too. I don’t troll people, but sometimes I do if I’m bored,” Maximov said. “This week I was doing it because you got nothing to do all week. Just talking back. I don’t really care, I got 11 takedowns last fight. So I can see for some people why it would be boring, but it was just a strategical performance in that sense.

“In my opinion, I broke the [takedowns] record, because I only had three rounds to do it and I think the other guy had five, so that’s a record-breaker. I don’t really think too much into it. I read them because I think it’s funny because I don’t take it seriously. I just have fun, this shit’s tight. But people just hate for no reason, but it’s funny.”

Maximov, a 24-year-old prospect, trains with Nick and Nate Diaz in Stockton, CA. The Diaz brothers are notorious for hitting back at critics and haters both online and in person.

Maximov has called out rising star Khamzat Chimaev recently, and he’ll look to earn the attention of Chimaev with a victory tonight and continue to climb the middleweight ranks.

In a recent interview with LowKick MMA, Petroski had revealed that he asked the UFC to match him up against Maximov for his next fight. Going into the bout against an undefeated prospect, Petroski will be looking to hand Maximov the first loss of his career.

Speaking to the press during the UFC Vegas 54 media day, Petroski shut down the claim of Petroski asking for the fight.

“No, that’s cap. That’s a lie,” Maximov said. “I actually tried to fight him in LFA a year-and-a-half ago, he didn’t want it. Him and Tresean Gore, the same two people, because I’ve been trying to fight them last two years since COVID. Neither one of them wanted to fight because both of them had COVID during that same time frame. Yeah I’ve been wanting it.”

Nick Maximov expects a finish

After being probed by the interviewer about why he picked Maximov, Petroski stated that he wants to prove himself as the best wrestler in the middleweight division. Backed by his collegiate wrestling experience, Petroski is likely the more grizzled competitor in the game in contrast to Maximov’s BJJ-heavy background.

“Oh we’ll see. Everyone says something and then Saturday rolls around and they’ve got a different answer for it. So we’ll see,” Maximov said. “I think it’s a finish. I think it’s a UFC fighter versus a regional fighter. He was trying to dog on the people I’ve fought and all of them have winning records.

“The two dudes he’s fought in the UFC aren’t even here no more. Then before that he was still fighting people with negative records, and losing to people with negative records. I’m like, how are you trying to diss me when I’m fighting the top prospects already.

“You know what I’m saying? I think he’s just kind of delusional and I think it’s going to show.” (h/t Cageside)

Maximov is down to fight Khamzat

A video of teammate Nate Diaz and Nick Maximov has been doing rounds on the internet. After the brief back and forth between the younger Diaz and Chimaev, the two were discussing the Swede when Maximov expressed his willingness to take on Khamzat.

“I’m down to fight Khamzat. I’m for real about that. Nate was still talking and I was just looking at him and for some reason the camera pointed at me. I was like ‘What the f*ck?’ It happens I guess,” Maximov said.

“Yeah I’m down to fight that fool though. I don’t know why everyone’s trippin’ so hard. I mean he’s a good fighter. Everyone in the UFC is good though. So I’m down with it.”

While it’s unlikely that Maximov will take on Khamzat anytime soon, he will need to dispatch Andre Petroski first if he is to get himself on the journey to being in the conversation.

UFC middleweight Andre Petroski is excited to be the first man to beat Nick Maximov at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs Rakic.

Andre Petroski made his way into the UFC three years after turning pro in 2018. As the former Art of War middleweight champion, he was featured on the returning season of The Ultimate Fighter 29 under the wing of coach Brian Ortega. Racking up seven wins in his career so far, he has proven to be one of the most exciting fighters with four knockouts and three submissions.

In an interview with LowKick MMA, Andre Petroski spoke about his upcoming fight with Nick Maximov, who goes into the bout undefeated with eight wins at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs Rakic this May 14. Being a purple belt in BJJ, Petroski will take on another BJJ pro in Maximov, who holds a brown belt from Nick Diaz Academy and is also an All-American wrestler.

“I think he’s going to force the grappling and he’s just going to be one step behind,” said Petroski. “I’m more excited than anything just to be the guy to give him his first loss. I think that they really built him up, they brought him up. He hasn’t fought the toughest of competition. They’ve given him favorable matchups so far.”

He revealed that he asked the UFC for Maximov specifically to prove that he’s the best wrestler in the division. Having accumulated three first-round finishes, Petroski maintained his 100 percent finish rate in his first two fights in the promotion. He’s confident that he has the abilities to hand Maximov his first loss and expressed his desire to fight as much as possible.

Petroski is looking to fight as much as possible

Andre Petroski has become a reliable athlete for the UFC who has shown the willingness to fight as much as possible. Stepping in on numerous short notice fights, he feels good to have a proper training camp going into his bout with Maximov. He’ll be returning to action after his most recent outing against Yaozong Hu, who he managed to submit with an arm-triangle choke just seconds before the end of the contest.

He gave a big shout-out to his team, Marquez MMA, an affiliate of the Daniel Gracie team, as he made the case for them to be the team of the year in the UFC. The team stands 13-0 in the promotion with eight finishes to its name.

“Tune in and check our team out, man. I’m telling you, we’re the best team. I can’t name one other team that’s 13 and 0 in the UFC right now,” Petroski said. “I don’t know why we’re not being nominated for the team of the year. You guys gotta tune in!”

A battle between middleweight prospects Nick Maximov and Andre Petroski is in the works.

There is a very exciting battle being targeted between two men who could be the future of the UFC middleweight division. According to reports by Iridium Sports Agency, Nick Maximov is set to make his next walk to the Octagon in May when he will take on Andre Petroski.

Petroski is trying to make his way in a stacked UFC middleweight division. He has had two fights in the UFC so far following his stint on The Ultimate Fighter Season 28. He won his last fight over Yaozong Hu via third-round submission and turned some heads in the process. Fans may have grown to love Petroski during his time on TUF. He is a former heroin addict who made his way through addiction to the UFC. He is looking to make more of a name for himself, but his next test is a tough one.

Petroski will be taking on Nick Maximov. The young up-and-comer has a big backing behind him. He is a product of The Nick Diaz Academy and has both Nick and Nate Diaz on his side. He made his UFC debut in September with a win over Cody Brundage and followed it up with a second win just two weeks ago over Punahele Soriano.

Maximov is great on the ground and has been involved in a few submission events recently. Being a protégé of the Diaz brothers brings all eyes to Maximov. He will need to show that he can take on this next tough test in Petroski and continue his rise up the rankings.

Maximov is a 4-0 professional fighter who’s wins have all came inside the scheduled distance. He is due to compete at Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground 13 this weekend – which will take place from an unknown location.

Speaking exclusively to LowKickMMA about competing at the secretive SUG 13 event, Maximov said.

“I am beyond excited. It will have a ton of eyes on the event, I have a good opponent, so I couldn’t ask for anything better. I take every competition seriously. I never go into something for a pointless reason. I go in to win. I hate to lose.

I have no idea where the location is, I am not sure all of what is happening yet, I am just going with the flow. It’ll be interesting though. I’m excited to see everything and how it unfolds.

Maximov will face BJJ black belt, Joe Baiz, on Sunday and he’s excited to see how he does against such a high-level competitor, he said. “I am expecting a high-level black belt, with good leg attacks. It’ll be a good match and I’m excited to see how my style compares.”

The 22-year-old has previously expressed an interest in welcoming YouTuber Logan Paul into the world of MMA. Paul is still very much on the radar of Maximov, but the money would need to be right in order to make that fight happen, he explained.

“If the money is right I’d beat his ass. But I wouldn’t do it for a clout move. I would want the money to be right. I would have everything to lose and nothing to gain. So show me the money and we could talk.

“I think if they fought real fighters, they would regret it in a heartbeat. Big difference between YouTubers fighting each other than a YouTuber fighting a real fighter. If the money is right, I’d be down but I don’t want to do that for a clout move. That ain’t me. I am a prizefighter.”
