The final DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki (30-6, 1NC) will step back into the limelight next month, debuting under the ONE Fighting Championship banner in the main event of the upcoming Rise of Kings event.

Aoki is scheduled to face French fighter Arnold Lepont, a man the Japanese fighter knows little about, but can say for certain that “I think he has made a mistake by asking to fight me.”

The two meet on October 6, 2012 in the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on a stacked card featuring three ONE FC title bouts.

Aoki spoke to MMAWeekly.com recently about his upcoming fight.

“I don’t know very much about him and I don’t really care. He says he is a fan but if that is the case then fighting me is a very stupid thing to do, most of my fans want to take a photo with me but he wants to fight me? I find that very strange,” said Aoki.

“I am not a fan of Arnaud Lepont because I don’t know who he is and I think he has made a mistake by asking to fight me.”

“I have fought more than 30 times and every opponent has said the same thing. Before I was mainly a Jiu-Jitsu fighter but Evolve MMA has helped me to change and become an all round MMA fighter,” said Aoki. “I am sure he thinks his standup is better than mine and that he can knock me out but maybe I think the same thing too? My job is just to win but if I could knock out Arnaud Lepont that would also be fun for me.”

Aoki enters the bout on a loss, having been finished by first round TKO by former Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez in their rematch bout. Previous to the defeat, the last DREAM lightweight title holder had won seven straight bouts.

Aoki has been training with the Evolve MMA gym in Singapore, and has been working on improving his striking so fans of the Japanese star could see him knock out Lepont on October 6.

Manhoef looks to rebuild his career after a disappointing stretch of 3-5 (1NC) dating back to September 2008. He was in action earlier this month, ending a four bout winless streak by earning a split decision at a Road FC 9 event in South Korea.

Kawamura is the defending King of Pancrase middleweight title holder, earning the title in January and then defending the title this past June. ‘Rambo’ is undefeated in his last five matches, going 3-0-2 having dropped down from light heavyweight where he vacated the King of Pancrase title to pursue the 185-lbs strap.

Press Release – 18 September 2012 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC) announced today that for the first time in the organization’s history, two World Championship titles will be contested for at ONE FC: RISE OF KINGS on 6 October. The World Championship Title Fights will be for the ONE FC Lightweight World Champion and the ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion titles. Brazilian submission expert Zorobabel “Zoro” Moreira takes on top Japanese Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) veteran Kotetsu Boku for the Lightweight crown and BJJ World Champion Leandro Issa battles former RisingOn Champion Soo Chul Kim when ONE FC heads back to Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 6 October.

CEO of ONE Fighting Championship™ Victor Cui stated, “We are coming back to Singapore to put on one of the greatest fight cards in Asian MMA history. The Lightweight and Bantamweight divisions of ONE FC are both incredibly stacked with the largest roster of Asian champions. Moreira, Boku, Issa and Kim have proven that they are the best and most exciting prospects in the divisions and we are giving them the chance to earn themselves a World Championship Title Belt. Each fighter understands the magnitude of a ONE FC World Championship Title being on the line and I expect each fighter will look to win impressively come 6 October. Also, the pool of talented Bantamweight fighters in Asia is fast increasing and I decided the best way to start choosing contenders for the title in the Bantamweight division was by putting on an eight-man Bantamweight Grand Prix. We are bringing the best of the best from all over Asia and the world for the start of this historic tournament.”

The Bantamweight eight-man Grand Prix kicks off with American MMA legend Jens Pulver taking on China’s rising star Zhao Ya Fei while Korean slugger Min Jung Song clashes with Japan’s very own Masakatsu Ueda. The Grand Prix will culminate in late 2013 where the finalists will contend for the title.

BREAKING NEWS: BJJ World Champion Zorobabel Moreira (7-1) will face Shooto Champion Kotetsu Boku (18-6) for the lightweight world championship title at ONE Fighting Championship: Rise of Kings on October 6 in Singapore.

ONE Fighting Championship: Rise of Kings is expected to take place on October 6, 2012 at the 12,000 capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Moreira has won five straight including three inside the ONE FC cage. Boku is just 1-1, while 5-1 in his last six, and will make his ONE FC debut versus Moreira next month. The Japanese-Korean fighter won a first round knockout last July by stopping opponent Shin Kochiwa at a Shooto event. Boku has earned six (T)KO finishes, one submission, and twelve decisions over his career which includes facing opponents such as Joachim Hansen and Hermes Franca.
