Stephan Bonnar Felt “Paralyzed” After Taking Anderson Silva Knee At UFC 153

This past Saturday night (Oct. 13, 2012), UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva proved again why he is the world’s “pound-four-pound” best fighter in the world by finishing opponent Stephan Bonnar with a knee to the body in the main event of UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

When the end came for Bonnar in the first round, Silva appeared to have had enough of his opponent’s striking attempts bringing his attack to ‘The American Psycho’. After Bonnar bounced off the cage after a failed trip attempt by Silva, ‘The Spider’ would connect with a flying knee to Bonnar’s midsection, sending him helpless to the mat. A few more punches from Silva would end the fight as ‘The American Psycho’ lay motionless.

Bonnar took to Twitter (@StephanBonnar) on Sunday to tell fans that he felt “paralyzed” by Silva’s knee and was only starting to function just as referee Marc Goddard stepped in.

Thanks to everyone for the support, I’m so sorry I lost. I feel so bad for letting my fans down, but I promise to make it up to you. Not injured, just caught with a perfect knee to the solar plex and it paralyzed me, was just getting movement back when fight was stopped.

Bonnar flew back to the States following the UFC 153 event in Brazil, to be with his wife who is close to giving birth to their first child.

Before last Saturday’s match Bonnar had never previously been finished inside the Octagon and had promised to keep moving forward in the fight to pressure the 185-lbs kingpin.

In the end, ‘The American Psycho’ was merely another plaything for ‘The Spider’ as the Brazilian merely stood in front of his opponent, hands down, merely dipping and ducking all of Bonnar’s best shots.

Once Silva had had enough, he turned up the heat throwing his own punches, and after a failed trip, landed the fight ending knee as Bonnar bounced off the cage. The end came at 4:40 of the first round.

ONE FC 6 – Shinya Aoki chokes out Arnaud Lepont in the first round

Press Release – 6 October 2012 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC) Asia’s premier Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization impressed a sold-out Singapore Indoor Stadium with ONE FC: RISE OF KINGS. The largest MMA event held to date in Singapore proved to be a night of unforgettable action with a series of world class battles inside the famous ONE FC cage. The highly-anticipated debut of Japanese MMA superstar Shinya Aoki ended in success as the Japanese fighter defeated Arnaud “The Game” Lepont with a triangle choke submission in just 1:25 minutes of round 1.

After suffering a setback in his last fights, Aoki looked to have regained his winning ways as he entered the cage with confidence and proceeded to dominate the fight early by bringing the on-rushing Frenchman to the ground and making him fight where Aoki is most dangerous. Once on the ground, Aoki applied a triangle choke to finish Lepont in impressive fashion.

The packed Singapore Indoor Stadium also witnessed the crowning of Kotetsu Boku as the first ever ONE FC Lightweight World Champion and Soo Chul Kim as the first Bantamweight World Champion. Boku started throwing pin-point strikes at the far taller Moreira from the opening bell and it became quickly apparent that Zoro Moreira was not afraid to stand and trade punches with Boku. Both fighters displayed world class striking skills attempting various combinations throughout their bout. After a back and forth battle, Boku was able to land a series of right hands defeating his opponent at 1:02 minutes in round 3 by TKO.

Kim wasted no time against Leandro Issa in what turned out to be a very impressive night for the young Korean. Kim landed a hard right hand knocking his opponent to the canvas and finished him off with a series of strikes at just 15 seconds of round 2.

The first round of the ONE FC Bantamweight Grand Prix got off to an exciting start with American Jens Pulver defeating Zhao Ya Fei from China by unanimous decision in round 3, Japanese Masakatsu Ueda defeating Korean Min Jung Song by unanimous decision in round 3 and Filipino Champion Kevin Belingon defeating Russian Yusup Saadulaev by TKO in round 1. All three fighters will advance to the second round of the Grand Prix which will be held at upcoming ONE FC events. The winner of the ONE FC Bantamweight Grand Prix will contend for the ONE FC Bantamweight World Championship title in 2013.

Gallery: Matt Hughes and His Son Go Hunting in South Africa, Slay All of the Animals

(You think that’s impressive? You should see how Hughes handles a rhino.)

Fact: Matt Hughes loves hunting. Loves it. And whether you stand on the “hunting is for sociopaths” or the “guns are the only thing keeping giant underground worms from invading the earth” side of the issue, you gotta respect the former welterweight champion’s dedication to slaying every beast this earth has to offer, except for the most dangerous game, that is. In either case, Hughes recently partook in a South African hunting expedition with his son Joey, and the results look like what you would expect an Oregon Trail novice to haul in on his first Buffalo hunt. A lot of things were killed is what we’re saying. But before you jump on Hughes for blatantly wasting such delicious Zebra meat or being an ignorant redneck (we’re looking at you, Dan Hardy), know that the meat from animals hunted in African safaris is often donated to local villages in need, and the hefty licensing fees guys like Hughes have to pay to legally hunt such game help fund the nation’s conservation efforts. In other words: Fuck yeah guns!!
