Xtreme Couture Las Vegas head grappling coach Neil Melanson has made a significant sacrifice to keep himself involved in mixed martial arts, by having the second toe on his left foot removed instead of resting his foot for a year.
Melanson had the toe removed last week and spoke to ESPN.com about his decision to opt for surgery rather than sit for a year.
“I broke it in the first tournament I ever competed in. Then over the years I broke it again and two years ago it snapped. It just didn’t want to live I guess.
“It’s really not a big deal to me. It’s just a toe. I guess when you love the sport and you’re committed to it, you don’t let little things like toes get in the way.”

KJ Noons had his face rearranged to look something like the elephant man during last nights fight with Jorge Masvidal. Props to Ric Fogel for ESPN.com for the photo
Lightweight Conor Heun earned a unanimous decision over Magno Almeida during the preliminary card and got caught in the remaining moments of the fight with an arm bar. Heun refused to tap and you can see the results of the injury on his elbow. Click HERE to listen to his post fight comments. Props to Tracy Lee for Yahoo! Sports for the photo.

Lightweight Justin Wilcox barely made it into the second round when he received a nasty eye poke from opponent Gesias ‘JZ’ Cavalcante. The bout was stopped and declared a ‘No Contest’. Wilcox posted this photo via Twitter @JustinWilcoxMMA who posted this message with it “On the way to the hospital, nobody cam stop me with legal move”

Not really that ‘Ugly’ of an image but I think the expression on Brett Rogers face says it all. He was choked out by Josh Barnett in the co-main event during the second round.
Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem tipped the scales at 256 pounds, while opponent Fabricio Werdum weighed-in at 246 pounds on Friday night.

Pictured above is Sam Stout’s first round knockout of Yves Edwards on the Spike TV prelim broadcast.
Instead of posting them all up on the first page and drowning your computer, we’ve posted more GIF’s after the jump. Pictures include Junior dos Santos trying to finish Shane Carwin in the first, Chris Weidman’s standing guillotine choke, and the groin shots by both Joey Beltran and Aaron Rosa on one another.
Heavyweight prelim fighters Joey ‘The Mexicutioner’ Beltran and Aaron Rosa both land knees to the groin during their fight last night. Beltran would earn a third round TKO stoppage victory.
UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos lands several lefts in the hopes of finishing opponent Shane Carwin during the first round of Saturday nights UFC 131 events.
Middleweight Chris Weidman sinks in a standing guillotine choke, earning him the “Submission of the Night” bonus, stopping opponent Jesse Bongfeldt with six seconds left in the round.
