Fans of Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko may only get to see their favorite fighter one more time in the cage as the “Last Emporer” has apparently been elected to the Regional Senate of the Belgorod state in Russia. This according to Valetudo.ru, who posted the notice via their Twitter page, along with a photo of Fedor’s new ID.
Valetodu.ru also posted this message “Despite the news that things look “bright” between M1 and SF, sides are ways apart. Very possibly, Fedor will be one and done with SF.” Which could always leave the door open for the Russian to come to the UFC, but it’s more likely that Fedor would simply retire rather than keep fighting competitively.
During Tuesdays official EA Sports MMA launch party, of which Fedor and Randy Couture were present, Zeus of MiddleEasy.com was the first to bring the news up with the Russian heavyweight, just after the fighter finished denying a career in politics.
Ben Fowlkes of MMAFighting inquired about Fedor’s political career, to which he blatantly denied. The guy is an enigma, maybe it’s better that we shouldn’t fully understand his behavior…
I asked Fedor what exactly he intends to do with his new political career, and here’s The Last Emperor’s short and concise response.
“Why not? I’m going to try it out. I want to enforce the people’s rights and make living [in Belgorod, Russia] better for the people.”
Valetudo.ru hasn’t posted any links to support the news of Fedor’s elected status, they are a reliable source of news coming out of Russia. We expect to see something on the matter in the coming days.
Will fight fans only have one more chance to see the “Last Emporer” in action? We’re still holding out hope that he’ll make it into a UFC octagon, but it may be too late in his career and he may be too old by the time that happens.
