Fan favorite, Clay ‘The Carpenter’ Guida (29-12) is set to step back into the Octagon on June 22, 2012 against former contender Gray Maynard in the main event of an upcoming UFC on FX show.

Guida enters the bout on a No. 1 contender loss to current champ Ben Henderson last November at the first UFC on FOX event.

Despite facing a physically bigger opponent in Henderson, Guida has no plans on leaving the lightweight division like other fighters who have failed to find success in the past.

During a segment of “The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo” Guida talked about his loss to Henderson, the title bout between Henderson and Frankie Edgar, plus more.

“I haven’t felt outmuscled even against Henderson – he just outpositioned me. Until that happens I don’t have a reason to go to 145. I’ve made my stake in the lightweight division and on June 22 I’ll make my stake even deeper. I’ve been here a long time and I want my lightweight belt before I make any moves.”

Also featured on Monday’s podcast were Bellator color commentator Jimmy SMith, Score Fighting Series fighters Forrest Petz and John Alessio, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva’s manager Alex Davis, and media personalities Ben Fowlkes and John Ramdeen.

Former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown (25-8) had his latest bout announced this past week as he is set to face Daniel Pineda this May on the undercard of UFC 146.

Brown hasn’t seen the inside of the Octagon since last August when he snapped a two-fight losing skid by earning a decision over Nam Phan at UFC 133.

Those two losses, both of which came in January of last year, losing to a split decision to Diego Nunes at UFC 125 and then a decision to Rani Yahya just three weeks later at the Fight for the Troops 2 show.

Looking back, the 36-year old now realizes that he needs to take time between fights and is currently recovering from previous surgeries to his left hand and knee.

Brown spoke about his upcoming fight, as well as his injuries, recovery, and training at age thirty-six as a guest on “The MMA Hour with Mauro Ranallo” on Thursday.

“I’m just taking my time now, waiting until I feel good to fight and not trying to rush things, not trying to fight a bunch of times a year just to get paid,” Brown told Mauro Ranallo on The MMA Show. “I’m just trying to enjoy things now — that’s what I’m doing and it’s keeping me healthier that way.”

“Having injuries and training through them, having surgery and having a fight right after,” Brown said of the reasons why he hasn’t been able to maintain his health. “This time I had my knee scoped in January but I’m giving myself time, not going back into the gym the first day after surgery, letting it rehab and stuff, letting it work in better.”

UFC lightweight Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (17-4, 1NC) is set for his next fight on May 15, 2012 on the main card of the UFC on FUEL TV: 3 event against Jeremy Stephens.

Stephens is stepping in for an injured Yves Edwards, with the event taking place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.

Cerrone has captured the interest of Octagon fans in 2011 with some very flashy wins, battling five times in the Octagon racking up victories over Paul Kelly, Vagner Rocha, Charles Oliveira and Dennis Siver. Out of those five fights, the ‘Cowboy’ has also earned four “Fight Night” bonuses. His last fight though, did not go as well as he had hoped, losing a one sided decision to Nate Diaz at UFC 141.

Speaking on this fight with the SiriusXM Fight Club just a few days ago, Cerrone said he was looking forward to “standing in the pocket” against Stephens.

“Cool dude (Stephens), I don’t really know much about him. I know he shows up to fight, he throws down, he comes every time. Win, lose or draw he fights hard and I’m excited. It’s going to be a fight for the fans because I’m going to stand their in the pocket with him and throw down.”

“I was scheduled to fight Yves Edwards, the same stylistic type of fight and it would have been fun, but Jeremy is right there. He’s going to fight and it’s going to be exciting battle.”

Bellator fighter Pat Curran (17-4) earned the biggest win of his career this past Friday night (March 9, 2012) in Hammond, Indiana after defeating former featherweight champ Joe Warren for the Bellator strap.

In the Bellator 60 headliner, Curran would catch the champ with a knee to the head as Warren ducked in for a takedown. Sensing that Warren was in trouble, Curran pressed the attack landing several more big punches and knees to the head of Warren.

The stoppage appeared to be a bit late, as Warren’s body was supported by the fence during the onslaught preventing him from falling to the canvas.

Speaking to host Mauro Ranallo on Monday’s podcast of “The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo“, Curran re-iterated his thoughts that referee Jeff Malott had stopped the fight too late.

“Watching the fight again, I can definitely say they should have stopped it 10-15 seconds sooner. I hope that Joe Warren has a quick recovery and has no long-term damage. In the heat of the moment, though, it’s hard. I’m just doing my job and going at it until the ref steps in. But watching it again (Jeff Malott) definitely let it go on too long.”

Also featured on Monday’s podcast were Bellator color commentator Jimmy Smith, TapouT Magazine’s Jennifer Swift, MMAjunkie’s Steven Morrocco, No Holds Barred Eddie Goldman, and Will Romero from the Canadian Score Fighter Series promotion.

Former WEC featherweight champ, and current UFC bantamweight contender, Urijah ‘The California Kid’ Faber (26-5) is set to debut as a coach this Friday night on FX television.

Opposing him will be UFC champ Dominick Cruz, who earned a decision over Faber in their last bout putting the fighters at 1-1 in their career against one another.

Fans can expect some entertaining trash talk every Friday night for the next thirteen weeks between the two coaches.

During a segment on “The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo” Faber expressed his excitement about coaching on “TUF” versus Cruz, as well as his thoughts on the champ as a person and a fighter.

“I think Dominick’s a solid fighter. He doesn’t have that ‘it’ factor or a finishing move so he’s not a scary fighter, but he’s very good at what he does. As a person he’s alright. He’s a little arrogant — I think he thinks he’s better than he is and holds himself up on a pedestal. But he’s got things that are admirable like his work ethic, and the way he trains is commendable. He’s also consistent.”

Bellator Champ Michael Chandler Excited To Fight, Just Not Excited For Akihiro Gono

Undefeated Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler (9-0) has his next fight scheduled for May 4, 2012 in the headliner of Bellator 67 versus Japanese veteran Akihiro Gono (32-17-7) in a non-title “Super Fight”.

Chandler is coming off the biggest win of his career, having stopped Eddie Alvarez for the Bellator strap last November.

The new champ is ready and excited to get back into the cage to show that he is one of the best fighters in the world, he’s just not that excited to face Gono.

Chandler was a guest on “The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo” (interview with Chandler starts at 7:50) on Thursday to talk about his upcoming fight. Hit play to listen to the full podcast which includes TUF 15 coach Urijah Faber and Canadian welterweight Ryan Ford who makes his Bellator debut at the May 4 event.

“I am a fan of (non-title fights) because of timing,” the undefeated Chandler told The MMA Show. “There’s no way I wanted to sit out for almost a year because I won’t defend my title until this fall or winter. If I was to sit out for that long that’s just too long. I’m 25-years old, I’m young, hungry and improving by the day. I’m a fighter and I want to go out and fight because that’s our job. Our job is to go out there and fight as much as possible and put on a show for all the fans. I’m excited that I’m only going to be laid off for six months now (since the November against Alvarez). It’s still too long, but it’s a lot better than 12.”

“… I’m just excited to fight. I’m not necessarily pumped for Gono, but he’s definitely a veteran of the sport and everyone of the sport who is a true fan, that has been watching since the PRIDE and UFC 1 days, they’ll know who he is,” Chandler said. “He’s had some crazy fights with some of the biggest names in our sport, so it’s going to be cool and I’m excited to go out there and put on a show. No matter who I’m fighting, I only have one goal and that’s to go out there and dominate — that’s all I really can control.”

Chandler has won nine straight, six of which have occurred in the Bellator cage as well as two wins under the Strikeforce banner.

Chandler and Gono are set to meet on May 4, 2012 in Rama, Ontario, Canada at the Casino Rama hotel and casino.
