Askren vs. HornbucklePress Release – Newport Beach, CA. (May 21, 2013) – The Summer Series continues for Bellator MMA as the promotion returns to Albuquerque Wednesday, July 31st as the Santa Ana Star Center will play host to reigning Bellator Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren defending his title against Russian phenom Andrey Koreshkov live on Spike TV. The night will also feature the long awaited conclusion to the Bellator Welterweight Tournament Finals as Douglas Lima takes faces Ben Saunders in a second epic battle, while featherweights collide as Patricio Pitbull returns to battle Rob Emerson.

The event has a special early start time and will broadcast LIVE starting at 5:00 p.m. MST on Spike. The preliminary card will be streamed LIVE and FREE on Spike.com starting at 4:00 p.m. MST. Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased at ComcastTix.com or by visiting the Santa Ana Star Center Box Office with tickets starting at just $25 dollars.

Askren comes to Albuquerque sporting a spotless 11-0 record and is regarded as one of the best welterweights in the world. The former US Olympian has continued to impress during his illustrious career with Bellator, and will be looking to add another title defense to his resume with a huge victory on July 31st from the Santa Ana Star Center.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back into that cage and putting on a show,” Askren said. “I feel like I’ve continued to mature and get better in every one of my fights, and July 31st should be no different. I don’t think Andrey has any ability to stop my wrestling and ground attack, so this will be another successful title defense.”

Only 22, Koreshkov had a 2012 to remember as the Russian knockout artist was 5-0 over the year, including a tournament run that featured victories over Jordan Smith, Marius Zaromskis and Lyman Good.

“I’ll be 110% ready for this fight,” Koreshkov said. “I’ll make sure that Askren’s tactics to put everybody in the audience to sleep won’t work this time. Instead, I’ll keep everybody entertained by putting him to sleep.”

After two devastating knockout victories on his way to the Bellator Welterweight Tournament Finals, Douglas Lima is ready to collect his second Tournament Championship with a victory over Ben “Killa B” Saunders July 31st. Originally schedule for March of 2013, Lima suffered a fractured hand that delayed the fight, but is fully healed and ready to capture his $100,000 prize and shot at the Bellator Welterweight Championship.

“It’s an honor to fight a fighter like Ben again,” Lima said. “With the time off I’ve been able to fully heal to 100% and like always, will be looking to finish the fight early.”

For Saunders, the South Florida native is looking to avenge his 2011 Tournament Finals loss to Lima with a signature finish and finally achieve the title shot that has since evaded him.

“Quite simply, it’s about damn time Douglas and I get back into the cage,” Saunders said. “July 31st can’t get here soon enough. Can’t wait.”

The night will also feature the return of fan favorite and top featherweight Patrico Pitbull, as the Brazilian striker will battle California native Rob “The Saint” Emerson. After suffering just the second loss in his dominating career to the hands of reigning Bellator Featherweight Champion Pat Curran, Pitbull is eager to get back to his winning ways.

“I’m very motivated to get back in the cage, and I feel that I still haven’t left totally removed myself from my fight with Curran, a lot of me is still in the fight,” Pitbull said. “But it’s gone now and I have a tough opponent ahead, I’ll be going stronger for this next challenge and doesn’t matter how tough my opponents will be I will be stronger than I was! It’s great to know I’m back.”

“Our first event in Albuquerque was a huge success,” Rebney said. “With a Welterweight Title fight, the conclusion of our Welterweight Tournament, and a stacked fight card top to bottom, we’re looking at another huge night of fights July 31st live on Spike.”

XFC 24 – Scott Holtzman Gets New Opponent For Lightweight Title Match, Faces John Mahlow June 14th

Press Release – Challenge made, challenge accepted. The stage has been set. The XFC’s past meets the present, to determine their future. XFC 24Press Release – Challenge made, challenge accepted. The stage has been set. The XFC’s past meets the present, to determine their future. On June 14th, Live from the USF Sundome in Tampa Florida, Scott “Hotsauce” Holtzman will take on John “The Mulatto Mauler” Mahlow for XFC Lightweight gold.

Since hanging up his hockey skates in 2008, University of Tennessee and Knoxville Ice Bears Forward Scott Holtzman (4-0) has only had one thing on his mind, a mixed martial arts title. After an undefeated amateur career, that never saw a 3rd round, and four impressive professional wins, Holtzman finds himself one step closer to reaching his goal, when he faces off against John Mahlow at XFC 24: Collision Course. The often quiet Holtzman recently found himself at the center of media attention, after former XFC Lightweight Champion Nick Newell refused to defend his belt based on the merit that Scott was “an up and comer.” Media headlines soared as Newell was abruptly stripped of his title, leaving “Hotsauce” without an opponent for his June 14th title fight. While fielding hundreds of questions, the XFC’s #1 contender made one thing clear, his goal was never to beat Nick Newell, his goal was to become a champion, and Nick Newell just happen to be the man holding his belt. “The man across from me in the cage has changed, but the plan is still the same…get my belt.” Will Scott Holtzman continue his unbeaten rise to the top or will John Mahlow close the curtain on the “Hotsauce” show?

When XFC President John Prisco announced that the Main Event at XFC 24 would still be for the promotion’s Lightweight Title, the first man to reach out to him and challenge Scott Holtzman was John Mahlow (13-13). Mahlow was the company’s first ever Lightweight Champion and now wants his shot once again at the belt that Holtzman and Newell were fighting over. “The Mulatto Mauler” has been fighting professionally for more than 10 years. He has stood in the cage with the likes of Antonio McKee, Mac Danzig, Mark Bocek, Jeff Curran, Luis Palomino, and Junior Assuncao. His wins read like chapters in the BJJ handbook: Rear Naked Choke, Triangle Choke, Ankle Lock, Arm Bar, Guillotine. On June 14th, Mahlow will look to add one more victim to his list and wants to show Scott Holtzman he is ready to be champion again.

When asked about the changes to the XFC 24 Main Event, John Prisco had this to say: “It just felt right. I went through all the emails and phone calls that were coming in asking for the shot at Holtzman and this title, and I kept going back to one guy, actually the first guy that reached out to me, John Mahlow. It just seemed fitting. If Scott Holtzman wants to be the future of this division, then why not fight the man who first held the belt? This is a tough fight for Scott. Mahlow has 26 professional bouts to his name. He has fought some of the best in the business and been through wars. He’s back and better than ever from an injury that took him out of the game for a while, and he is ready to go. Scott is still young in this sport, but he’s hungry and talented, a dangerous combination. I’ve never seen anyone as focused as Scott Holtzman is right now, the guy is on a mission. This is going to be an interesting fight. Scott’s rough, ground and pound style versus John’s slick submissions…I honestly don’t know how this one is going to turn out, but I am excited to get a Champion crowned and continue our promotions Lightweight chase.”

Xtreme Fighting Championships makes its way back to Tampa, Florida for XFC 24: Collision Course on June 14, 2013. The event is presented by ICRealTime Security Solutions and ThroatPunch Ind. Apparel. The event will be broadcast Live on AXS TV from the beautiful USF Sun Dome, beginning at 9pm. For more information on the event, or to purchase tickets, visit www.officialxfc.com. For daily updates and news, follow this event and the XFC on Facebook and Twitter @OfficialXFC.

Bellator FC Confirms Matt Riddle For Season Nine Welterweight Tournament

Press Release – Newport Beach, CA. (May 20, 2013) – With a division already boasting the likes of Ben Askren, Paul Daley, Douglas Lima, Ben Saunders, Andrey Koreshkov and Karl Amoussou, Matt Riddle knows he will be swimming in “Deep Waters” when he enters the Bellator Welterweight Tournament this Fall as Bellator has signed a long-term promotional agreement with the controversial Pennsylvania native.

Riddle joins Bellator coming off four straight victories with the UFC, but was recently released as he failed his post-fight drug test after his victory over Che Mills. Known for his strong wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu background along with a stifling takedown defense, Riddle is ready to challenge himself against the best in the world inside the Bellator cage.

“I had so many options after I left the UFC, but knowing that I was able to compete in a tournament against guys like Paul Daley, Ben Saunders, and Douglas Lima, signing with Bellator was an easy decision,” Riddle said. “This division is just so stacked, and being able to fight in a tournament makes it even better. Bellator is doing a lot of great things right now, and I want to be a part of it.”

Bellator CEO & Chairman Bjorn Rebney understands some of the risks involved with signing Riddle, but after discussions with Riddle, Rebney is confident the 27 year old welterweight is in the right place to impact the welterweight division.

“Matt’s got all the tools to be a force in our welterweight division,” Rebney said. “When I saw Matt get released from the UFC coming off 4 straight wins including his dominant win over Mills in February, we took notice. We both realize that Matt will have a target on his back for his past indiscretions. But having discussed it with him, I’m comfortable that he’s in the right place to enter the Bellator cage this fall in what will be the most loaded Bellator Welterweight Tournament in the promotions history.”

While Riddle isn’t looking too far ahead of himself, it’s clear there are a number of goals he’d like to accomplish on his way to a title shot.

“No questions asked, I want to win the next Bellator Welterweight Tournament, get my shot at the title and take my beautiful wife to the MTV Awards and meet Snoop Dogg,” Riddle remarked. “I’ve seen all the pictures of Bellator guys walking red carpets and it’s something I want to earn and be able to do. What could be better than that?”

Riddle’s journey to a Bellator Title shot and future red carpet appearances will begin this fall live on Spike.

UFC on FX 8 – Fuel TV Post-Show Recap & Quotes With Chael Sonnen And Daniel Cormier

Press Release – LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes are from tonight’s UFC POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV for UFC ON FX 8: BELFORT VS. ROCKHOLD. UFC on FUEL TVPress Release – LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes are from tonight’s UFC POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV for UFC ON FX 8: BELFORT VS. ROCKHOLD. The show was hosted by Karyn Bryant, with UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier and light heavyweight Chael Sonnen offering analysis. Heidi Androl conducted fighter interviews on-site.

Quote of the show: Vitor Belfort on his career and drive for the victory: “I was part of two jungles. I’m a T-Rex surviving in this new jungle. I’m revealing myself and God gave me the strength. I used to be strong then. I’m strong now. I think it’s just a burning inside of me that said: you didn’t accomplish what you did. I lacked so many things in my career. I did so many mistakes, and Dana [White] gave me the chance. And I promised him, I sat down in a meeting and said I’m going to promise him, I’m going to give him my best. I’m going to finish as strong as I can finish. If I don’t have the desire to go to the gym, if I don’t have the desire to train to improve new skills, I should retire. I still have a lot of gas in my tank. I thank God to give me that strength, that burning inside.”

UFC POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV Analyst Chael Sonnen on Belfort’s victory: “Vitor is just flat awesome. You have to watch him because he has finishes like this. Where are these feet coming from? This was one of the most dramatic finishes in this division that I can remember. That’s his 11th first-round finish in the UFC. The new confidence, and almost arrogance, is so important in this sport. I was surprised at his humbleness at the end when Jon Anik asked who he wanted to fight next. These are tough fights he’s winning.”

UFC POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV Analyst Daniel Cormier on Belfort’s victory: “The old dog has new tricks. His finishes are getting more brutal. Now it’s gotten worse.”

Sonnen on if Belfort’s age and experience are making the difference with his fights: “I don’t think experience is an advantage. I think experience is a disadvantage. You get tired of this work, the interviews, the training and everything. I think Vitor’s pressure and the new things he’s doing are just making a difference.”

Cormier on what Rockhold should have done against Belfort: “I wanted him to pressure. I wanted him to try to get close to Vitor. The first round and a half is very important in a Vitor fight. Vitor fought a great fight. Luke fights with his hands down and has for his whole career. And he got caught. That’s probably not going to change.”

Sonnen on if Belfort will go for the title: “The bottom line is we need contenders. We don’t need pretenders. We need guys who want to go in there and win the gold. We asked Vitor flat out tonight and I think we all agree, that he just became the number-one contender. He didn’t say yes, he didn’t say no, so let’s get some others guys ready, guys that want to do it, guys that raise their hand and say Dana, I’m the guy.”

Sonnen on Camozzi vs. Souza: “Camozzi really tried to hold it together, but he went into enemy territory, did it on short notice and he was just a little bit outmatched. There’s not much of another way to say it.”

Cormier on Jacare Souza’s performance: “Chris Camozzi played a dangerous game. He went on the ground with Jacare and he stayed there. He should have been finding ways to escape. When you’re down there with a guy that’s that good in jiu jitsu, you can’t play his game. Eventually Jacare was going to latch on to something, and he was going to be able to finish the fight. It was what we expected him to do.”

Cormier on Souza’s future in the UFC: “Jacare needs to be fighting better guys. He needs to get way up at the top of the division. I don’t want to see him against number seven. I don’t want to see him against number six. Put him in there with Yushin Okami, who’s number three. A guy that’s fought for the belt and has beat everybody that we put in front of him. Get him in there with someone that can challenge him.”

Souza on what it meant to him to get the win: “It means a lot to me. It’s hard for me to say exactly what it means. I came in here to do my job, and that’s exactly what I did and I showed them that I can perform very well. I threw a couple of punches, so I gave him my business card. I wanted to show him that I’m a complete fighter.”

Sonnen on Rafael dos Anjos defeating Evan Dunham: “This was a very good fight. I really thought Dunham controlled this and pushed his opponent backwards. Dos Anjos did shoot back at him and fought back.”

Cormier on if he thought Dunham beat dos Anjos: “I thought Dunham did enough to win the fight. Octagon control is part of the scoring of the sport. He scored the takedowns and he was controlling the fight. It was a close fight. Listen when Dana White tweeted that he thought a guy got beat, he probably got beat.”

Sonnen on Rafael Natal vs. Joao Zeferino: “This was Joao’s first fight in the UFC. We didn’t know what we were going to see. They both fought a great fight, but Natal’s gas tank had a little more in it and he just lasted longer than Zeferino.”

Sonnen on his next fight: “At some point my skills will diminish and my athletic abilities will go down. And when they do, I’ll either join the NFL or fight Wanderlei Silva. But at this point I’m looking ahead and I don’t know what’s next.”

Cormier on his next fight: “I want to fight on the first card on FOX Sports 1 in Boston on August 17 and I hope my man Chael Sonnen is fighting Wanderlei Silva next to me. Put us on the card, boss!”

WSOF 3 – Prelim Matches Featuring Gruetzemacher vs. Sanders & Beebe vs. Murphy Added To June 14 Event

Press Release – LAS VEGAS, Nev. (May 15, 2013) – Surging KO artist Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher (11-1) of Glendale, Ariz. will square off with fellow fast-rising star Jerrod Sanders (11-1) of Oklahoma City, Okla. in a World Series of Fighting featherweight (145 pounds) preliminary card bout at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas […]

WSOF 3 bannerPress Release – LAS VEGAS, Nev. (May 15, 2013) – Surging KO artist Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher (11-1) of Glendale, Ariz. will square off with fellow fast-rising star Jerrod Sanders (11-1) of Oklahoma City, Okla. in a World Series of Fighting featherweight (145 pounds) preliminary card bout at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, June 14.

A bantamweight (135 pounds) contest between emerging force Carson “Little Juggernaut” Beebe (13-2) of Schaumburg, Ill. and undefeated submission ace Joe Murphy (6-0) of Huntington Beach, Calif. has been added to the preliminary card as well, World Series of Fighting announced today.

“We are excited to add another pair of matchups to our preliminary card that will showcase a collection of the sport’s brightest up and coming athletes and future champions,” said World Series of Fighting President and six-time world kickboxing champion Ray Sefo. “Since we launched our promotion last year, World Series of Fighting has made a commitment to building a roster of its own stars, so fighting as many potential future stars at our live events is critical in order to ensure that these athletes gain the necessary competitive experience to take their careers to the next level.”

The 26-year-old Gruetzemacher has been on fire since 2009, winning his last 10 fights. He has defeated each of his last seven opponents by way of (T)KO or submission, including four consecutive (T)KO victories.

Likewise, Sanders has notched nine straight wins. The 33-year-old has finished his last three opponents – two by way of submission and the third via TKO.

Beebe, the 24-year-old younger brother of bantamweight submission specialist Chase Beebe, is looking to return to the win column after he dropped a unanimous decision to Rolando Velasco in his last effort on Nov. 15, 2012. Prior to that, Beebe had reeled off seven consecutive victories.

The 25-year-old Murphy has been unstoppable since he made his professional debut with a first round (2:01) submission (armbar) victory over Orlando Aspericueta on May 1, 2009. Five of Murphy’s six wins to date have come by way of submission, including his last bout, an April 14, 2012 matchup with Tyler Weathers that Murphy won by way of armbar in the second round (2:56).

Tickets for the World Series of Fighting event, priced from $29 (plus applicable service fees), are on sale at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at 800.745.3000.

The four-bout main card will air live on NBC Sports Network, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

In the welterweight (170 pounds) main event and a long-awaited rematch, Jon Fitch (24-5) of Fort Wayne, Ind., will square off with fellow superstar Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman (25-9) of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The second meeting between the 35-year-old Fitch, a member of San Jose, Calif.-based Team AKA, and the 32-year-old Burkman, a winner of four consecutive fights, comes slightly more than seven years after Fitch submitted Burkman with a rear-naked choke in the second round (4:57) of their initial encounter that, coincidentally, also took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

In the co-main event, streaking stars and fearsome submission aces Tyson “Man of” Steele (10-1) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada and Steve Carl (19-3) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa will face off at welterweight (170 pounds).

Also slated for battle on the main card is heavyweight rising star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rolles Gracie (8-1) of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, who will face off with Dave Huckaba (21-4) of Sacramento, Calif.

Undefeated prospect Justin Gaethje (8-0) of Denver, Colo. will collide with Brian Cobb (20-7) of Bakersfield, Calif., in a lightweight (155 pounds) contest and the first televised main card bout of the night.

In preliminary card action, battle-tested submission specialist John Gunderson (34-14) of Houston, Tex. will be pitted against Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (16-4) of Bridgewater, Mass. in another lightweight tilt.
