Dan Henderson Calls For Michael Bisping Rematch And If You Don’t Support This You Are Garbage

Fact: The single greatest moment in the history of MMA was captured in the above image, on the night of July 11, 2009 at UFC 100. It came approximately three minutes and eighteen seconds into the second round of a fight between Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, and as luck would have it, so did nearly every red-blooded American who happened to be witnessing it.

A little backstory. You see, prior to this orgasm-inducing moment, Henderson and Bisping had been engaged in a war of words while coaching opposing teams as part of the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter. And by war of the words, I mean that Bisping spent the majority of the show talking trash, while Hendo opted to just kind of stand around silently while counting down the moments until he would lay a whoopin’ on this arrogant Brit’s ass. When the two finally met in the octagon, well, you know what happened.

Last weekend at UFC 199, both Henderson and Bisping picked up huge, incredibly violent wins over Hector Lombard and Luke Rockhold, respectively. But with the former nearing 50 and the latter suddenly finding himself the middleweight champion, rumblings have once pop up around the web of a potential rematch between the two.

It all started when MMAWeekly’s Erik Fontanez, after speaking with Henderson’s camp, tweeted out the following:

The reports were later confirmed by Henderson’s camp, to which Bisping immediately took to Twitter himself to vaguely respond:

Bisping then doubled down during an interview with ESPN by claiming that “As of right now, Luke Rockhold will not be my first defense. That’s a fact. I had to go away and beat three more guys before I got a second shot at Luke. Certainly, after his behavior on Saturday, he should have to go away and do the same. He wasn’t even close.” He also doesn’t seem interested in facing Chris Weidman, which makes sense considering that he’s coming off a loss and shouldn’t have been given an immediate rematch with Rockhold in the first place.

Obviously, a rematch between Bisping and Henderson would make absolutely zero sense from a rankings perspective. Even if he is coming off one of the most brutal wins of his career (which is really saying something for the man), Henderson is a whopping 2-3 in his past five bouts and has been stopped 4 times in 6 defeats dating back to 2013. That being said, DANA PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND WE’LL NEVER SPEAK ILL OF YOU AGAIN. Anyone worth their salt seems to agree:

So there you have it: Hendo vs. Bisping is the match that the people want, and since that’s all that matters when handing out title shots, we fully expect to see this fight booked before the weekend is over. Make it happen, Dana.

BREAKING: Brock Lesnar Returns, Faces MARK F*CKING HUNT at UFC 200

We’ll have our full recap of UFC 199 up shortly, but before we do, let’s get right into a few of the biggest non-fight highlights of the night. Firstly, it was announced on Saturday that, after a fake retirement, a cancelled fight, and a series of brutal negotiations, the welterweight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor will be going down for realsies at UFC 202 in August. Apparently all Diaz needed to make the fight happen was to literally smack The Baldfather like a bitch, which to Dana’s credit, he agreed to.

Easily more shocking than the announcement of McGregor-Diaz II, however, was the reveal that former WWE superstar-turned-UFC-heavyweight-champion-turned-current-WWE-superstar Brock Lesnar would be making his return to the UFC at UFC 200, 100 events after he first defended his title against Frank Mir in brutal fashion, to take on a TBD opponent.

This morning, Lesnar appeared on Sportscenter to announce who exactly that opponent would be, and if you have the type of incredibly specific dyslexia that prevents you from reading headlines, then head below to get the scoop.

Yes, you heard the correctly. Lesnar will be returning to the cage for the first time since 2011 to take on none other than heavyweight legend and walking pair of murderfists Mark Hunt, the #8 ranked heavvyeweight who has rattled off back-to-back KO victories over Antonio Silva and Frank Mir. Ho. Lee. Schnikes.

Of course, the news of Lesnar’s return came at a cost, which oddly enough, came in the form of Ariel Helwani. You’ve undoubtedly read by now that Helwani, as well as his fellow MMAFighting cohorts Esther Lin and E. Casey Leydon, was escorted out of the building at UFC 199 and slapped with a lifetime ban simply for breaking the Lesnar story before the UFC had a chance to. We won’t detail our feelings on this absolutely ridiculous story until the dust settles, mainly because Old Dad already summed them up perfectly over at MMAJunkie, but will simply reiterate what we’ve been saying for years: Dana White is a small, small man. That Helwani’s ban has largely overshadowed what was easily one of the greatest cards in UFC history says more about his place in this sport than anything else, and we sincerely hope that the UFC is forced to backtrack after seeing the massive influx of support that Helwani has received in the days since. (Also, where was all that support when WE got banned, you arseholes?!!!)

But back to the story at hand. Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt are going to throw hands at UFC 200, and the resulting chaos may very well cause a rupture in the space-time continuum. We just hope that no one breaks this reality-altering potential story before the UFC, lest they find themselves on the outside looking in alongside hoodlums and miscreants like, well, us.

Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes Booked for UFC 200, As Ronda Rousey’s Self-Imposed Exile Continues

Following her shocking upset win over Holly Holm at UFC 196, the general consensus seemed to be that she would defend her title against rival Ronda Rousey next, despite the fact that Rousey a) had not competed since her loss to Holm at UFC 193 and b) still had not offered a timetable for her return. Regardless of the UFC’s plans, Tate told reporters shortly after the fight was announced that she didn’t foresee Rousey returning to the octagon anytime soon.

“She’s obviously said that she’s so emotional to the point where she’s considering crazy things and it’s like this is a broken woman,” said Tate during an appearance on The Jay Mohr Show. “I don’t know if she’ll ever come back the same.”

For the time being, it appears that Tate might be onto something. Last night, it was announced that Tate would be making her first title defense at UFC 200, and the opponent was probably the last person you’d expect…

It’s not Rousey, it’s not even Holm, but Brazliaian slugger Amanda Nunes that Tate will be facing next. The news was first broke via Ariel Helwani on Twitter and confirmed shortly thereafter by UFC officials.

Currently 5-1 in her UFC career with 4 stoppage victories, Nunes is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Peruvian prospect Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 196. In the evening’s post-fight press conference, Nunes was adamant that she should be next in line for a title shot, claiming that Rousey and Holm should first have to battle before facing Tate. The newly-crowned champ seemed open to the idea, and wouldn’t you know it, the UFC actually went with the sensible route for once.

As for what this development says about the MMA future of Ronda Rousey, well, that’s a little more cloudy. It definitely isn’t a good sign that she has once again gone completely off the radar, in any case, especially considering how fired up she seemed after hearing of Tate’s title win.

“I texted Ronda — Ronda wasn’t watching the fight. I text Ronda and she said ‘what happened?’, said Dana White to reporters following UFC 196. “I said ‘Miesha just choked her unconscious’ and she said ‘looks like I’ve got to get back to work.”

Unfortunately for Dana, that work was the female-centric Road House reboot, it seems.

The Tate vs. Nunes title fight will be joining what is already an insanely stacked card in UFC 200, which will be headlined by a welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Regardless of how we all felt when rumors first started swirling that the UFC would be booking an immediate rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz for UFC 200, the one thing we could all agree is that we WOULD TOTALLY WATCH THAT SH*T AGAIN. Whether the fight was contested at welterweight, lightweight, Franklinweight, or Moneyweight, there wasn’t a red-blooded MMA fan alive that wouldn’t fork over sixty bucks or the password to the illegal streaming website with which they watch all pay-per-views to see this rematch.

As such, the UFC announced this morning that a welterweight rematch between McGregor vs. Diaz II would in fact be headlining UFC 200. But that’s not all, not by a long shot…

Also revealed to be on tap for UFC 200, if you can believe it, are the following fights:

1) Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo II (for the interim featherweight title) – Yes, while the featherweight champion continues his quest to become a welterweight contender, the man whose four year reign he ended will begin picking up the pieces by rematching the former lightweight champion at featherweight. Crazy times, these are. Anyways, Aldo and Edgar will do battle once again with the interim featherweight title on the line, with the winner receiving the next shot against McGregor whenever he feels like rejoining the 145 pound division.

2) Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne – the former heavyweight champion will return from his latest injury layoff (you know, the one that cost him a rematch against new champ Fabricio Werdum) to take on perennial contender Travis Browne, who is fresh off a third round, foul-filled TKO of Matt Mitrione back in January.

3) Johny Hendricks vs. Kelvin Gastelum – In a battle of guys juuuust a bit too heavy to make 170, former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will take on TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum. The former is on the heels of a devastating first round KO loss to Stephen Thompson last month, while the latter faced a recent setback of his own in the form of a split decision loss to late replacement opponent Neil Magny. The odds on this thing making it past the weigh-ins? 20-to-1.

4) Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon – Hot off his first legitimate win in the past six years, Diego “The Nightmare Within a Dream Within a Nightmare” Sanchez will face lightweight staple and bonus king Joe Lauzon, who has dropped two out of his past three fights to Evan Dunham and Al Iaquinta. These two were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 180 until injuries saw them both removed from the card.

5) Takanori Gomi vs. Jim Miller – In what is likely a “loser leaves town” match for both veterans, “The Fireball Kid” will look to rebound from back-to-back TKO losses to Myles Jury and Joe Lauzon against Miller, who himself has dropped two straight to Michael Chiesa and Diego Sanchez.

6) Sage Northcutt vs. Enrique Marin – After suffering the first loss of his professional career to Bryan Barberena, everybody’s favorite front-flipping wonderkid has been booked to face Enrique “Wasabi” Marin, a relative unknown who dropped his UFC debut to Erick Montano at Fight Night 87 in November of last year.

6) Gegard Mousasi vs. Derek Brunson – This one was announced earlier this month, but since we don’t cover really cover fight bookings anymore, we’ll just include it here. The former Strikeforce champion is coming off a decision win over Thales Leites in the co-feature bout of UFC Fight Night 84 on Feb. 27, while the former Strikeforce competitor has rattled off four straight victories including a recent KO of Roan Carneiro at Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Cowboy last month.

Also being rumored for UFC 200 is the long-awaited return of women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano. While the fight hasn’t been made official yet, Zingano is reportedly expected to face TUF 18 winner Julianna Pena in an undercard bout. Our advice for Cat? Protect your balls.

Suffice it to say, UFC 200 is shaping up to be not only one the best card of the year, but one of the best in UFC history. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as it is inevitably torn apart by injury…
