UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is set to take on number one contender Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 on August 7 from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California and Silva fans will be hoping to see a pre Cote-like effort from one of the most strongest strikers in mixed martial arts. During a recent UOL chat in Brazil, MMAMania listened in as Silva weighed in on who he thought the best heavyweight fighter in the world was:
“In my opinion Fedor still is the best heavyweight for all the achievements he has gotten. Regarding to Fedor-Lesnar clash, I think it would be a big fight, a great spectacle and the MMA fans would be the winners.”
Without a doubt Fedor vs. Lesnar would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history, but first the UFC would have to sign Fedor which seems rather doubtful. Still we can dream.

Clay Guida is certainly one of the most liked and most recognized MMA fighters on the current UFC roster, and while Guida is still a ways away from getting a title shot, a win over Dos Anjos would certainly propel him in the right direction. Coming off a submission victory over Shannon Gugerty Guida is full of confidence, and recently talked to The Garv about his upcoming fight:
This is definitely my fight. I feel super confident about it. We all know that anything can happen in there, but I have a lot of experience at the bigger shows. I’m ready to get in there, put him in an uncomfortable position, and start dropping elbows at him. He has power in his hands and dangerous submissions so I want to finish this fight early.

In just a few weeks, Brazilian light-heavyweight fighter Thiago Silva (14-2) will step back into the octagon to face Tim Boetsch (11-3) at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif.
Silva is coming off a loss to UFC top contender and former champion Rashad Evans. It was a fight the Brazilian took with three herniated disks in his back which more than likely contributed to his unanimous decision loss.
Now Silva is healthy and looking to climb his way back up the UFC light-heavyweight division. Silva recently spoke to Tatame.com about his injury as well as his upcoming fight.
How are the trainings for your fight on UFC 117 going? The training is good, it’s being very productive, the guys are committed and the expectations are high… The last time I fought was seven month ago, right? It’s time, I’m ready. He’s a good wrestler, a good banger, has a good boxing, but my strategy is settled.
You had an injury on your fight with Rashad Evans. Is your recovery done? Are you going to be 100% for this fight? My recovery was good. I found out I had three hernias and it disturbed me a bit because I couldn’t get back to my trainings, I had to stop and take care of myself, but I’m fine now. I did physiotherapy every single day and it became a routine thing for me, but my back is good, I’m training hard, so the expectations are high. I’ll get back at my best.
You are coming from a loss to Rashad, who will probably be the next challenger for the belt. How do you see yourself on the division currently? I see myself as an athlete with a potential to be developed and that, despite the injury, is working hard to compensate it. I don’t choose my opponents, I fight with whoever they tell me to, but I want to fight the bests. From this fight on, I want to fight the tops again.

Strikeforce middleweight fighter Benji “Razor” Radach (19-5) is looking to make his return in the near future after suffering a rash of injuries that has kept him out of the gym for almost a year.
He’s suffered a rash of injuries throughout his career including a broken jaw, a herniated disc and a broken collarbone, amongst others.
In his last fight, a third round knock-out loss to Scott Smith in April of last year, Radach suffered a broken hand and an injured knee. He recovered from those injures only to suffer a torn pectoral muscle and required surgery to repair the damage. Radach then sustained a staph infection in February of this year, which was directly related to the surgery.
Now that he’s had time to heal and recover, Radach’s manager Ken Pavia, say’s the “Razor” is ready to make his return.
“Training, back in the gym, at 100 percent. But after a year off, you can’t just do a couple of weeks and get back in the cage, and he’s trying to do it smart. I don’t think there’s anybody that’s ever met Benji that doesn’t like that guy. He just exudes charisma, and he’s a very entertaining fighter, got a great style. His training partners always speak very highly of him because he gives 110 percent in the gym, just to the point of not hurting you. He really pushes people. He’ll be back this year. We’re looking at probably November for a realistic return. He’s under contract with Strikeforce, and we’re just trying to find him an opponent and a date.”

BJ Penn is quietly preparing for his upcoming rematch for the UFC lightweight title against current champion Frankie Edgar, but he’s still as confident as ever. Penn losing to Edgar was considered to be a huge upset, and Penn doesn’t think that he showed his opponent much of what he can do. Here’s the quote, via BJPenn.com:
“Without giving too much away, I really don’t think he’ll be able to compete with me come August 28th. I think we’re going to have too much for him. I think he’s going to have a false sense of security. He really doesn’t know who I am after the first fight. He’s going to be shocked when he finds out the real me.”
Sounds like Penn still has the same swagger as always. UFC 118 is set for August 28 in Boston, and will also feature another big lightweight bout between Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard. The MMA News will bring you all the pre and post coverage of the event.

“Big Country” Roy Nelson is certainly a very capable fighter, despite his big belly and overall “sloppy” look, and he’s next fight could be the toughest of his career. Nelson looks to take on high quality UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos on August 7 at UFC 117 in Oakland, California and Nelson is hoping to continue his unbeaten streak inside the Octagon. Nelson’s critics have no love for Nelson’s style of fighting, or his lack of muscle tone, but Nelson has shown that looks can be deceiving and he truly believes that his toughest opponent is himself, as he pointed out during a recent interview with UFC.com:
“My toughest opponent is always me. Any fights that I’ve lost were all because of me. I know I was the better fighter in every one of them. The only person who actually beat me was myself. Some of them I’m sure I won and some of them were a result of questionable refereeing and judging, so our records are actually a lot closer if you look at it that way. I don’t sit and stew about my losses, I just work to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes twice. I think any opponent I have is tough. Junior has knocked out some tough guys. I think he has already fought for his title shot. When he beat Werdum, he should have fought for the title in his next fight. It’s one of those things. Styles make fights and we match up really well.”
It should be a great matchup with both fighters looking to move into title contention with a win. Junior has proven his ability to strike with the best fighters in the world and Nelson will have to be careful not to be the next highlight reel victim of the Brazillian.
