Mixed martial arts veteran, and sure to be a UFC Hall of Famer, Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson recently turned down a fight versus Antonio Rogerio Nogueira which was reported on Tuesday night during UFC Tonight on Fuel TV.

On Wednesday, the former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion explained his reasons for turning down the fight during a segment on Clinch Gear Radio (hit play to hear the segment).

“I was under the impression that [Dana White] was still kinda on the fence on whether he was gonna put me in front of Rashad (Evans) or not. That’s assuming Rashad wins. He did offer me a fight with little Nogueira and I didn’t think the fans would be interested in that fight and it’s not as much time as I’d like to prepare for a five round fight. So I told him I’d wait and see what happens with the Rashad fight. I would like to fight Jones now rather than if I took that fight with Little Nog. I wouldn’t be fighting Jones for another eight, ninth months. I’m okay waiting a little bit. It was more about having the time to prepare and I did inquire to say ‘Hey, I would be interested in doing it if it was a three round fight,’ I could have time to prepare.”

Nogueira will instead face Alexander Gustafsson at the UFC’s first card in Sweden.

The two have faced one another before back in Arpil 2005 at a PRIDE Total Elimination 2005 event, in the opening round of the PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix. The bout would end in a victory for ‘Little Nog’ who finished Henderson with a first round submission (armbar).

Bellator Fighting Championships first ever lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (22-3) has opted not to participate in the promotions upcoming Season Six 155-lbs tournament, opting instead to focus his efforts on a rematch with DREAM champion Shinya Aoki (30-5, 1NC).

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney broke the news to MMAjunkie.com Radio Wednesday night (also featured on the podcast are Melvin Guillard, Fabricio Camoes, and prospect Jimmy Jones – the show actually starts at about 1:40 of the podcast).

“Ed won’t be part of the next tournament during the March kickoff,” Rebney said. “The decision was reached between us that the next right step wouldn’t be to jump back in the season-tournament right now.”

“We’re still talking very regularly about the Aoki fight,” he said. “We’ve been talking to DREAM about making it happen, so it could still happen as his next fight.”

Alvarez lost his title last November to Michael Chandler at Bellator 58 in one of the most exciting fights of 2011, only to be overshadowed by the UFC 139 bout between Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua on the same night.

The loss ended a seven fight win streak which saw Alvarez capture the Bellator title and successfully defend it once. His last loss was to Aoki back in December 2008 by first round submission.

Aoki is currently riding a seven fight win streak which includes defending his DREAM title on New Years Eve against his friend Satoru Kitaoka at the Fight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoka 2011 event.

Once Bellator and DREAM have worked out the details of the fight between Alvarez vs. Aoki we’ll be sure to post the news as soon as were able.

Female flyweight Rosi ‘The Surgeon’ Sexton (12-2) may not be one of the big names in women’s mixed martial arts but when she is certainly one of the more intelligent fighters out there, and when she speaks people listen to what she has to say.

With the recent suspension of former Strikeforce champ Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos, Sexton put together an interesting piece entitled “Now we can all stop pretending” over at BloodyElbow.com, and followed it up with an interview on The MMA Show with host Mauro Ranallo.

During the interview, she talks about the pressures to succeed as a mixed martial artist admitting that she too has been tempted to “cheat” but has managed to stay away from such things as steroids.

“I would be lying if I said I had never considered using performance enhancing drugs. There is always that moment. It’s that thought that everyone else is doing it. You get a pretty good sense or who in your weight division or your potential opponents may or may not be using performance enhancing drugs. You look at it and say, I’ve got this fight coming up. I have to be honest, it’s crossed my mind. I’ve never done it and I’m glad that I’ve never done it. I want to be able to look back on my career and say whatever I achieved, I achieved naturally.”

Check out the entire podcast from The MMA Show (starting at 38:20 of the podcast) which also includes guests such as UFC middleweight Mike Massenzio, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, NSAC exec Keith Kizer, Brazilian journalist Marcelo Alonso and Strikeforce light heavyweight Trevor Smith.

UFC welterweight Dan ‘The Outlaw’ Hardy hasn’t fought since last August when he dropped his fourth straight fight in the Octagon in the main event of the UFC on Versus 5 show from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Since then the British striker has been working hard at improving all aspects of his fight game in anticipation of his next fight, and to show the world that he deserves to fight in the Octagon.

Hardy had been training with UFC heavyweight Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson but tells ESPN.UK that he’s since moved on to train with fighters such as former opponent Georges St-Pierre, Frank Mir, and Vitor Belfort.

“Roy Nelson is a great training partner and great guy, but he’s not really the right man for me to be working with,” Hardy told ESPN. “He doesn’t move like a welterweight and he’s a lot stronger, so picking his brains was great, but hands-on he wasn’t quite right for me.

“I’ve got a new boxing coach, a new wrestling coach, a new jiu-jitsu coach… I’ve sorted out everything. Being properly set up in Vegas, you don’t have to travel far for world class training partners, and I’ve worked with Frank Mir, Georges St-Pierre, Vitor Belfort…

“I spent some time with Georges helping him to prepare for Carlos Condit [before his injury], giving him a look similar to what Condit would have given him. I had a great spell with him and his coaches, Firas [Zahabi] and John Danaher, I went to his wrestling class and it was interesting to see the things I should change in my own training camp.”

Hardy would like to end his four fight losing streak this May and hopes to secure a fight for that time.

Dana White Says If Gina Carano Came Back She’d Be At The Top Of The Women’s 145-Pound Division

Women’s mixed martial arts fighter, and now turned movie star, Gina ‘Conviction’ Carano (7-1) has not seen the inside of a cage for over two years since her loss to Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos in August 2009 for the Strikeforce women’s featherweight title.

Carano is currently promoting her upcoming movie “Haywire” in which she plays the leading role in the spy thriller.

With the recent suspension of ‘Cyborg’ over a positive test for steroids, the women’s 145-lbs division is without a star.

During a recent interview with ESPN Radio 1100, UFC president Dana White was asked where Carano would rank if she came back to the sport of mma.

“Absolutely, absolutely. She has this big movie coming out. I’m getting behind this movie and supporting it big time, I heard it’s great. I’m happy for her, but if she wanted to come back and fight that could be worked out.”

“I don’t disagree with you at all….Still no matter how long her layoff has been it would be hard to deny that she is one of the best fighters in the world, even in that weight class. That happens all the time in boxing, guys that are on top of the world take a couple of years and come back. Unless there has been a lot of activity in that division, they usually hold their standing.”

So it may be that the Strikeforce 145-lbs division has suffered a devastating blow to it’s standing, but may find a star once again in Gina Carano.

UFC light heavyweight champ Jon ‘Bones’ Jones has had a stellar 2011, fighting four times in the Octagon which includes winning his title and defending it twice.

After his most recent win, Jones told UFC president that he was looking for some time off after the hectic year.   Now it seems he’s had enough time off already and can’t wait to get back into the cage.

White was a guest on ESPN 1100 in Las Vegas this past week and told them that the champ is itching for a fight. (Interview Audio)

With Rashad Evans taking on Phil Davis later this month on the second FOX card, Jones may get former Strikeforce champ Dan Henderson.

“[Jones] called about four days ago and said ‘okay let’s go, I’m done with vacation.’ He said he wanted to take all this time off and then they were calling me four days ago saying he wants to fight as soon as possible. He’s ready to go.”

What could end up happening is Dan Henderson fights Jon Jones first, and then [Jones’ subsequent fight] would be close to the time that Rashad fights. Or we see how things go with Rashad [versus Phil Davis] and Rashad fights him first,” said White.

This might be great timing, as the winner of Jones vs. Henderson and the winner of Evans vs. Davis would likely be healthy and ready for a fight sometime this summer.
