Things were going according to plan right up until the point that UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones landed an elbow to the head Lyoto Machida, that’s when things got all “dizzy” for the challenger.

As we all know, that elbow caused a gash to open up on ‘The Dragon’s’ head essentially beginning the end of the Brazilian’s night as Jones would follow up shortly afterwards with more strikes, and finally a standing guillotine to end the fight in the second round.

With a little time to reflect on the match, Machida spoke to Tatame.com about the fight, saying that “I did my game and he was falling for it.”

What are your thoughts about the fight against Jon Jones?
Well, I guess it was a hard fight. The preparation was tougher in all aspects. We went there and tried to do our job. We set a game plan that, from where I’m standing, until a certain moment was working, but he landed that elbow and I got dizzy, I couldn’t see things straight anymore and it disturbed me because I couldn’t see. And on that moment I thought: “I gotta do my best here and now”. And that’s what happened.

Could you feel you were frustrating Jon Jones on the first round, because he tried to hit you and be couldn’t find you?
I felt him a little loss on the first round, but I was focused on not making it a big deal, because each round was a different one and I had to will them all. I did my game and he was falling for it.

How did you train for this most important aspect of Jon Jones’s game: taking down and throwing the elbows?
I guess I didn’t have enough time. He took me down launching an elbow on me, and that surprised me a little, because I thought he would take me down but I would have a little time to think it straight. It was very fast and I had my head close to the fence, he hit me with an elbow, I couldn’t see and I tried to stand up and he hit me even more…

After suffering a first round TKO loss to Antônio Rogério Nogueira on Saturday night in Toronto, Ontario during the main card of UFC 140, ‘The People’s Champion’ Tito Ortiz (16-10-1) said he had one more fight on his contract and hoped UFC President Dana White would give him that chance.

In response to Ortiz, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ, and assuredly “Fight of the Year” candidate for his five-round war with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua a couple of weeks ago, Dan Henderson (29-8) Tweeted this message (@danhendo).

No. He said he wants to go out w/ a win. RT @jorchrm: Tito Ortiz should fight @danhendo on his last fight! @danawhite

It would certainly be an entertaining fight and would allow the UFC some leeway with finding Anderson Silva a different opponent. I guess fans will have to bug @danawhite to make this one happen.

Ortiz is now 1-6-1 in his last eight fights, while Henderson 7-1 in his past eight which includes capturing the Strikeforce title. As a bout in the light heavyweight division this match makes no sense to book, but from the standpoint of creating a lot of fan interest as well as selling pay-per-views and tickets, this could be a great co-main event for an upcoming show.

Bellator Fighting Championships season four welterweight tournament finalist, Rick Hawn (11-1) has opted to drop down in weight for his next fight moving to lightweight.

The former Olympic Judo black belt plans on joining the Season Six Lightweight Tournament, set to kick off in March 2012 according to MMAjunkie.com, who also learned that Hawn had signed a new extension to his Bellator contract.

“I felt like I was sort of undersized in the last tournament. Everyone had a height advantage on me, and while I thought I made a good run, I think lightweight is going to be a better fit for me and just give me an advantage. Camp will pretty much be the same for me, even though I’m cutting to 155. I’m going to work on getting quicker while keeping my core strong. (I’m) just ready for the tournament to start and make a strong run.”

Hawn suffered his first pro-defeat last May, losing to season four tournament winner Jay Hieron by split decision. The former Olympian earned wins over Jim Wallhead and Lyman Good to make it into the final versus Hieron at Bellator 43. Despite a close fight, Hawn was only able to convince one judge that he had done enough to win, losing by scores of 28-29, 29-28, and 28-29.

Former WEC bantamweight champion, and former UFC fighter, Miguel Torres (40-4) released a statement on Friday concerning his controversial Tweet and his subsequent release from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Torres apologized to fans and to the management of the top promotion for a joke he made on Twitter involving a “rape van.”

The fighter posted the message on his website MiguelTorresMMA.com and has received a lot of support from his fans.

“I have a lot to be thankful for in my life, I have my beautiful wife and daughter, my family, my health, my gym, and in terms of my career, I succeeded to the biggest stage in the sport of mixed martial arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship. I am very sorry for upsetting my bosses at the UFC, and also to my fans and everyone else who was upset by the language in my tweets. I understand it was wrong, and I meant no harm or disrespect. Given the chance, I will do whatever it takes to make things right. I am going to learn from this. I think life throws you opportunities that can make you a better person, and so that’s what I’m going to do here. That is how I am going to react. I am going to use this to improve myself, and I hope that my fans will continue to support me.”

Despite a recent similar, and no less controversial comment by former champ Rashad Evans, the light heavyweight still has his job while Torres is left to find new employment.

A torn ACL forced UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre out of a planned title defense versus Nick Diaz in February. The two were to meet in the headliner of UFC 143, but instead Diaz will now face Carlos Condit for an interim title.

News of the injury was announced earlier today with a likely return for the champ ten months down the road. This is the second time St-Pierre has been forced out of a title fight in the past two months due to a knee injury.

The French-Canadian fighter tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee as well as suffering a small tear to his internal meniscus. GSP said the injury happened while he was wrestling.

Speaking about the incident earlier today, the champ had a message for the haters, vowing to come back “stronger, smarter and more clever” this fall.

“A few months ago I was on top of the world and I’m now I’m in a downfall,” St-Pierre said. “But you recognize a champion from how he comes back from things that don’t go well. Everybody that says bad things and says bad stuff about me right now, mark my words. I’m going to tell you right now, I’m in a downfall in my life, but in a few months, I’ll be back stronger than ever, and I will be champion again. I promise.”

“I believe there is only one person to blame for what happened and it’s myself,” he said. “I’m the kind of guy, I endure pain and go through it. I learned a big lesson in my life. It’s going to make me stronger, smarter and more clever.”

“Some people will say bad stuff about me, that ‘he’s finished,’ and stuff like that,” he said. “What I’m going to tell you is t’s very easy to hit a guy when he’s down. We have a saying in France, ‘The life goes up and down.’ People will laugh because I’m in a downfall, I’m hurt, I’m not a threat to them. But I’ll be back on top, mark my words.”

UFC welterweight Brian ‘Bad Boy’ Ebersole (48-14-1, 1NC) debuted with the top promotion earlier this year, filling in for an injured Carlos Condit at UFC 127 last February. He’d wind up winning an exciting unanimous decision over Chris Lytle at the Australian event.

The longtime veteran, who holds 60-professional fights to his record, plans on living up to his nickname ‘Bad Boy’ this Saturday when he faces Canadian fighter Claude Patrick on the main card of UFC 140. He plans on playing the “heel” by beating up ‘The Prince’ in front of his home town crowd.

“After I’d accepted the fact that I was competing [against] Rory, I had my mind focused on the task. Yes, the change came as a disappointment — for one day. Then I had to realign my thoughts toward Claude Patrick and the new — though much the same — task at hand.”

That task is to walk into Toronto and put an end to Patrick’s 13-fight winning streak in his own backyard, a task that Ebersole is quite familiar with.

“I’ve done this many times, hence the nickname `Bad Boy’ I was given by an Australian promotion. I’m the guy that beats people up in front of their home crowd.”

Ebersole had been scheduled to face rising star Rory MacDonald at the event, but the ‘Waterboy’ pulled out due to injury last month and was replaced by Patrick, who steps up from the prelim card to fight the Australian based fighter.

UFC 140 takes place this Saturday, December 10th, at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario. The Ebersole vs. Patrick bout will take place on the pay-per-view card.

Check out the entire interview with Ebersole as he talks about his last win against Dennis Hallman and whether he plans on showcasing the “Hairrow” at this weekends Toronto event.
