Two mixed martial arts (MMA) legends will clash on December 29 in Japan. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Fedor Emelianenko will headline Bellator Japan from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Recently, Jackson spoke to MMA Junkie to discuss his upcoming bout with Emelianenko. During the interview, the topic of possible retirement came up. Jackson admitted that he’s always thinking about retirement.

“Man, I’m 41. You don’t think … I think about it every time I get on the mat, every time I train. It’s all I can think about is my retirement,” Jackson said.

“It’s going to be like old times. I really do miss fighting (in Japan), and I was telling my coach like maybe a couple months ago, like man it would be nice to finish up my career fighting in Japan again. And he said yeah, that would be nice, fighting back there, so hopefully I can fight back there again.”

Jackson has been competing in MMA since 1999, competing for promotions such as King Of The Cage, Pride, the UFC, and Bellator. There were plenty of opportunities during Jackson’s days with Pride for “Rampage” and Emelianenko to collide, however, Jackson wasn’t a heavyweight yet.

As soon as he made the jump up in weight, Jackson new a fight with the Russian legend was inevitable.

“I never dreamed of fighting Fedor because back when we were both in PRIDE, I wasn’t a heavyweight, and I’m a big guy now. I’m a heavyweight now; he’s obviously still a heavyweight,” Jackson said. “I knew it was a matter of time that I was going to have to fight him as soon as I came to heavyweight, but I never thought about it.”

What do you think about Jackson saying he’s always thinking about retirement?

Quinton Jackson Interested In Taking Boxing Fight, Just Not Against Deontay Wilder

Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is nearing the end of his combat sports career, and wants to get in a boxing match before riding off into the sunset.

Jackson is currently slated to meet fellow heavyweight MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko in a New Year’s Eve clash in Japan. After that, however, as Jackson tells TMZ Sports, he’s interested in boxing. Jackson notes that he asked UFC president Dana White, during his days with the Las Vegas-based MMA promotion, about allowing him to box. Unfortunately, there was nobody for him to fight.

Now, however, Jackson wants to give it one more shot, and is ready to step into the squared circle. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I asked Dana White a long time ago, way before Conor McGregor even was around, let me do some boxing. It wasn’t my time, there was nobody for me to fight. I still want to fight a boxing match before I retire,” Jackson said.

Of course, there are some opponents Jackson would rather not box. One being WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Jackson said he doesn’t like fighting tall opponents with a long reach. Jackson finds matchups like these extremely difficult, most notably his submission loss to Jon Jones in 2011.

“I’ll fight anybody but Deontay Wilder. He’s too tall. Unless they give me like $100 mil, then I’d fight him. I’m keeping it real. I don’t like to fight tall guys with a long reach. I’ll tell you what. I’ll fight him if they give me $100 mil and we do me one boxing match and one MMA match, then I’ll fight him. $100 mil. I’m keeping it real. I don’t like fighting them long, tall dudes,” Jackson said.

What do you think about Jackson potentially pursuing a career in professional boxing before he retires?

Rampage & Wanderlei Silva Want Fifth Fight To End Rivalry

These two MMA legends could be fighting for a fifth and final time.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Wanderlei Silva’s mixed martial arts (MMA) rivalry isn’t going anywhere.

The two heavy hitters have been a staple in the sport for the past few decades. Initially, the pair squared off for the first time ever under the Pride banner. The Brazilian finished Jackson via first round TKO. One year later, Jackson sought redemption when he met Silva again in Pride. Unfortunately, the result was the same, with Jackson losing via second-round knockout.

Four years later, both Jackson and Silva would find their way into the UFC. They were booked for a third fight at UFC 92 in December of 2008. “Rampage” finally extracted his revenge. He brutally knocked out “The Axe Murderer” in the first round.

A decade later, both men are now inked to deals with Bellator MMA. They co-main evented this past weekend’s (Sat. September 29, 2018) Bellator 206 pay-per-view (PPV) card. In the fourth meeting of a series that was in favor of Silva 2-1, Jackson evened the odds.

Jackson picked up his first win since 2016 by finishing Silva in the second round via TKO. Despite the series sitting at a 2-2, with both men in their 40s, their desire for a fifth fight is mutual. Silva said in the post-fight press conference that real rivalries don’t exist in MMA anymore. He and Jackson’s is one of the last ones (via MMA Junkie):

“Real rivals don’t exist anymore,” Silva said. “This is one of the last ones. Four fights, never go to the points. Now we have to have the fifth fight.

“I accept already. I hope he accept too because he beat me two times, I beat him two times and now have to have fifth fight to decide. … Next time I’m going to cut your head.”

Jackson wasn’t expecting a fifth fight to even be a discussion. Now that it is, “Rampage” is game:

“Honestly I wasn’t thinking about a fifth fight because last time I beat Wanderlei he dropped weight classes,” Jackson said. “It’s a dream come true that he comes up to heavyweight because I’m like, ‘Damn, I’m too fat to fight Wanderlei now.’ But he came up to heavyweight, which means he’s a true soldier.

“He came up after the fight and said, ‘You know, we’re 2-2. Somebody’s got to be the victor.’ He said it, so it surprised the hell out of me. I’m down with a fifth fight, but I don’t know if (Bellator President) Scott (Coker) is down with a fifth fight. But I’m down for the fifth fight.”

Rampage Jackson won’t be surprised if Wanderlei Silva decides to hang up his gloves after their fourth fight at the Bellator 206 event.

One More Round

Bellator MMA is going back for more and is hoping that fight fans around the world are interested in seeing Silva fight Jackson for the fourth time.

Silva returned to action from an extended layoff last June. But was defeated by Sonnen over three rounds on pay-per-view at Bellator NYC at Madison Square Garden. Once this fight was rumored, Silva made it known that he was considering retirement.

Jackson recently did an interview where he talked about how using altitude tents once again has given him a new lease on his career. He used them when he was making a name for himself while competing in PRIDE.

Rampage Jackson Won’t Be Surprised

He started using them again for his last fight, which was against former title contender Chael Sonnen. The former UFC light heavyweight champ also made it known that if it was up to him, this fight against Silva will be the final bout for the career of the ‘Axe Murder.’

“I started doing it, and sure enough, in my last fight with Chael, no matter what happened, I didn’t get tired,” Jackson told MMAjunkie. “That’s one of my biggest fears is getting tired. When I hang up my gloves, it will probably be in training camp for a fight,” he said. “I’ll probably book a fight, be training for a fight, and I can’t go to the gym one day. I’ll be like, yeah I’m done.”

“I’ve trained really hard this camp,” he said. “I plan on destroying Wanderlei, so I’m not surprised he’s going to want to retire. Last time I beat him, he left the weight class. He’s got nowhere to go this time.”

Bellator 206 is set to take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on DAZN at 10:00 PM EST.
