Winning the ‘Battle of Rafaels’ at UFC Vegas 58, Rafael Fiziev is now looking to take on two-time lightweight title challenger Justin Gaethje in more ways than one.

Following his most recent win, Fiziev playfully called out Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal to determine the best Rafael in all of sports. Taking a slightly more serious tone during the UFC post-fight press conference, Fiziev called out fellow striker Justin Gaethje.

“I want a fight with Gaethje, like for real,” Fiziev said. “Nadal is funny … but Gaethje, if he wants to fight –what camera do I need to [look at]? yeah, this one. …” Fiziev looked directly into the camera and said, “If you want to fight, one more guy with yellow hairs, we need to know who’s the best for you and for me,” he continued. “If you’re ready, if you’re not scared, if you don’t take sh*t, let’s go.”

Rafael Fiziev Calls Justin Gaethje ‘Dangerous’

Fiziev further elaborated on his call out of ‘The Highlight’, complimenting Gaethje for his heavy hands while taking a verbal jab at his “sh*t kicks.”

“I think he makes my face the same like this, maybe more hard,” Fiziev said. “He’s dangerous. He’s a big challenge for me. He has a lot of chance to knock me out, and I have a lot of chance to knock him out. But yeah, that’s a good fight, for fans also. He have sh*t kicks, but he has good power in his hands.”

Now Fiziev is challenging the lightweight contender to a different kind of contest: who has the better nose job. In a post on Twitter, Fiziev tagged Gaethje saying, “Perfect timing. Let’s find out who’s nose job is better.”

Justin Gaethje has yet to respond to the Kazakhstani fighter’s callout at UFC Vegas 58 or his nose job throwdown, but fans have been clamoring for a battle between the two inside the Octagon. Now sitting in the No. 7 spot in the rankings following his defeat of Rafael dos Anjos, a win over the No. 3 ranked Gaethje could put Fiziev in pole position for a lightweight title opportunity.

Dan Hooker has backed Rafael Fiziev to come out on top against Justin Gaethje.

This past weekend, rising prospect Rafael Fiziev took on former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the headlining bout of UFC Vegas 58 in Las Vegas on July 9. In a close-fought battle up till the fifth round, Fiziev would manage to secure a quick knockout victory over dos Anjos in the opening seconds of the final round.

Following his win, “Ataman” expressed his interest in being paired up with former title challenger Justin Gaethje for his next outing.

Dan Hooker backs Rafael Fiziev to win over Justin Gaethje

In an interview with The AllStar, Dan Hooker talked about a potential fight between Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev.

“Gaethje’s got very good footwork, very good coaching,” Hooker said. “That’s a true striking battle, right? Those are two of the best defensive wrestlers in the division. I don’t see either of them implementing a wrestling-style attack—obviously, Gaethje with the boxing and with the strikes, and Fiziev’s kicks.

“It’d be very difficult for Gaethje to get his hands going with those kicks going, I’d say. Gaethje’s footwork is very good so is Fiziev. Fiziev has a very good understanding of footwork. That’s a tough battle. If I had to right now gun to my head, I’d be putting money on Fiziev for that fight.”

Fiziev’s rise in the UFC

The 29-year-old Kyrgyzstan native is a proficient striker with a specialization in Muay Thai. Unlike other mixed martial artists, Fiziev is a coach at Tiger Muay Thai gym in Thailand, one of the most well-known training centers in the world. Numerous UFC athletes including Hooker spend time there as a part of their camp.

Fiziev has also displayed remarkable takedown defense in the promotion, second only to UFC welterweight king Kamaru Usman, before his latest bout.

Gaethje has already challenged for the title twice, once against Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the other against Charles Oliveira. A showdown with the human “Highlight” reel could up Fiziev’s standing in the division and get him closer to a shot at the gold.

Rafael Fiziev has cemented his name amongst the lightweight elite with his finish over Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 58, and he’s now setting his eyes on a Justin Gaethje fight.

There were a lot of questions regarding how the grappling defense of ‘Ataman’ would stand up against RDA’s relentless grappling, but for the most part: Fiziev answered them all. Defending 14 of 16 total takedown attempts by Dos Anjos, and limiting him to just a poor 12% takedown accuracy.

The striking was very close, but at the end of the day, the scorecards would never matter. As Fiziev would land a bullet of a left-hook that would seal the KO/TKO victory for him in the fifth round.

At the post-fight press conference, Fiziev opened up about his UFC future. Discussing the fight, the finish, and what would be next for him now after such an impressive performance over a UFC legend such as Rafael Dos Anjos.

Rafael Fiziev Calls Out Justin Gaethje After RDA Knockout at UFC Vegas 58

“I want a fight with Gaethje,” Fiziev began (transcribed by MMA Weekly). “We need to know who is the best for you and for me. If you’re ready, if you’re no scared, if you don’t take s**t, let’s go.”

“He’s dangerous,” Rafael Fiziev continued. “He’s also a big challenge for me. He has a lot of chance for knocking me out, and I have a lot of chance for knocking him out. That’s a good fight, I think, for fans also.”

Justin Gaethje is 3-2 in his last five, currently coming off of a round one submission loss to the current lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira. At the moment, the Gaethje camp has stayed silent on the Fiziev call out. It’s not clear whether or not this is a fight that will appeal to ‘The Highlight’, but it undoubtedly would be an exciting battle.
