Ryan Couture, who won his pro-debut fight in Strikeforce Challengers 10 over the summer via triangle choke in 1:15 in the first round had been tapped for the Strikeforce Challengers 12 card on November 19th. Couture was back in the Xtreme Couture gym training when he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a serious staph infection in his leg as seen in the picture above.
The staph infection forced Couture to be hospitalized and undergo surgery to relieve the infection. Couture suffered a few complications after the surgery which put him briefly back in the hospital. But the 28 year-old who gained his spirit from his father, UFC Hall-of-Famer, Randy Couture, is ready to return to the cage for Strikeforce Challengers 14 against Lee Higgins.
Both father and son can be found training at the gym these days, as Randy Couture is booked to face Lyoto Machida at UFC 129. The younger Couture will face Higgins on February 14 in Austin, Texas. More appetizing pics of his staph infection below:
