Randy Couture tells us Dana White would really have to step up to keep him from retiring. So that’s interesting… There’s still a possibility we’ll see Couture in the cage after this weekend’s Lyoto Machida match at UFC 129. Ryan Couture, who won his pro-debut fight in Strikeforce Challengers 10 over the summer via triangle choke in 1:15 in the first round had been tapped for the Strikeforce Challengers 12 card on November 19th. Couture was back in the Xtreme Couture gym training when he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a serious staph infection in his leg as seen in the picture above.

The staph infection forced Couture to be hospitalized and undergo surgery to relieve the infection. Couture suffered a few complications after the surgery which put him briefly back in the hospital. But the 28 year-old who gained his spirit from his father, UFC Hall-of-Famer, Randy Couture, is ready to return to the cage for Strikeforce Challengers 14 against Lee Higgins.

Both father and son can be found training at the gym these days, as Randy Couture is booked to face Lyoto Machida at UFC 129. The younger Couture will face Higgins on February 14 in Austin, Texas. More appetizing pics of his staph infection below:

UFC legend, Randy Couture tweeted this afternoon that a prospective bout against former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida may be on the horizon. Couture wrote:

Looks good for Toronto and machida April 30 . 2011 is looking fantastic already . Proud of gray maenad he’s come along way in 5 years !

This is one of the fights Randy Couture said he would find interesting, as he has maintained in recent interviews, he may not be up for a title fight but he would like to take fights that are “interesting”. If Couture could pull off a win against the currently number 2 ranked UFC Light Heavyweight, he would indeed become a title-shot contender. But recent news from Couture is taken with a grain of salt, as we all were fooled by his tweet last month which suggested he was hanging up the MMA gloves. Couture’s lawyer explained the tweet was not a retirement statement, but it’s hard to believe the words “I think I’m at the end of it Yall . It’s time.” weren’t some indication of a goodbye to his MMA career. Regardless, we will wait to see what Randy tweets next and of course, what Dana White has to say about it.
