What a statement victory for Ricky Simón on the preliminary card of UFC Long Island — stopping fellow top-15 bantamweight contender, Jack Shore with a second round arm-triangle submission, handing the Welsh technician his first professional defeat.
Simón, who improves to 20-3 as a professional, managed to wobble and force Shore to his back in the second round, landing a massive right hand on the temple of the Wales native, before immediately jumping to full mount.
Landing some decent ground strikes to soften Shore up, Simón then snatched up a arm-triangle choke on the former, forcing an eventual tap as Shore suffered his first professional loss after embarking on a run of 16 straight wins.

Ricky Simon is scheduled to take on Jack Shore this July 16 at UFC on ABC 3 – Ortega vs. Rodriguez in New York. Simon is coming off an incredible knockout win over the veteran Raphael Assuncao in his most recent outing last December.
Shore goes into the bout undefeated in 16 fights with five of them coming under the UFC banner. Simon will be looking to extend his win streak to five and hand Shore the first loss of his professional career. A win over Shore will give Simon the extra push he needs to be matched up with a higher-ranked opponent, someone in the top five or ten.
Ricky Simon is open to Merab rematch after Jack Shore
Merab has racked up a seven-fight win streak that saw him knockout Marlon Moraes in his most recent bout. The Georgian also has the chance to create history by becoming the first UFC champion from the area. As more people pay attention to the rising 31-year-old, Simon sees a familiar foe he already beat four years ago in April 2018.
Simon took on Merab at UFC Fight Night 128 and managed to come out on top with a first of its kind technical submission stoppage that was awarded after the final bell.
In an interview with LowKick MMA, Ricky Simon shared his thoughts on whether a rematch with Merab would get him closer to the title.
Ricky Simon believes it would be a fun match for the fans and is looking to get the opportunity after Shore.
“Definitely, I think that’d be a very exciting fight as well,” said Simon. “He hasn’t lost since I beat him, I believe he’s on a seven-fight win streak, ranked number six in the world, and here I am in the back of the top 15 just having to fight whoever’s but I think I’m better, I beat him, I think I have more talent than a lot of these guys in the division. I think I’m going to go out there, I’m going to beat an undefeated kid, and then Imma get opportunities like a rematch with Merab.”
While he acknowledged Merab’s abilities, Simon said that Merab should want a rematch more than he does since he should be looking to avenge his loss.
“I don’t really care if we have a rematch or not,” he said. “I feel like he would want that more than I should want it but it’s just at the point where I kinda feel like we both always knew that we might end up fighting each other again and it’s a possibility but like you said that bantamweight division is so rich right now, there’s so many fun matchups that can be made. I’m excited to see what’s going to happen, for this fight and after.”

Ricky Simon predicts a finish against Jack Shore
In an interview with LowKick MMA, Ricky Simon predicted a finish for the fight with the use of his American-style wrestling. The 29-year-old Washington native spoke about how he feels more confident inside the octagon having gained more experience with time. His aim has evolved to not just win but to score a bonus as well.
When probed whether Shore’s unblemished record impacts him mentally, Simon remained confident he will be the one to beat ‘Tank’.
“Not at all, man. He’s 16 and 0 but I’m the one,” he said. “I’ve been telling everybody I’m going to be his first loss. He’s undefeated as an amateur, undefeated as a pro but he’s never fought anybody like me. I was there too man, I was undefeated as an amateur. I must’ve been like 11 and 0. At one point of my career, I was 15 and 1 so very similar to this guy. I’ve been there too but the difference is I’ve fought tougher competition.”
“The prediction for the fight is Imma use my good old American wrestling and Imma control where the fight goes and Imma keep these finishes coming. I just got a knockout over a legend of the division, Raphael Assuncao. I’m so comfortable in there now I feel, the finishes are going to keep coming.”
UFC on ABC 3 headlined by Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez
Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez are set to square off in the main event of the July 16th card in Elmont, New York. The event marks the third UFC broadcast on ABC’s broadcast television network. With divisional champion Alexander Volkanovski scheduled to take on Max Holloway a third time for UFC 276 this July 2, Ortega and Rodriguez will look to edge over one another in a bid to get a title shot.
Both headliners are in the top five of UFC lightweight rankings. Their bout will likely serve as an eliminator contest to set up a fight with the winner of Volkanovski vs. Holloway 3. Ortega is a former title challenger who came close to snatching the gold from ‘The Great’ at UFC 266 last September.

Ricky Simon is set to return in July against fellow bantamweight chaser, Jack Shore
Simon, the current #12 ranked bantamweight contender, is slated to feature at UFC on ABC 3 in July in a high-profile Long Island matchup against Jack Shore, attempting to land his fifth consecutive victory in just over two years’ time.
In his most recent victory, Simon managed to stop Brazilian veteran, Raphael Assuncao with a brisk combination of strikes at UFC Vegas 45 back in December.
Set to draw the aforenoted Welsh favorite, Shore in Elmont, Simon touched on the subject of a potential future matchup with O’Malley – as well as why a pairing between the two had so far yet to come to fruition, despite constant links.
“You know why, you know why,” Ricky Simon told LowKick MMA reporter, Nikhil Sharma regarding the fact a bout with O’Malley had yet to transpire. “He (Sean O’Malley) doesn’t want to deal with the wrestling – he doesn’t want to deal with that wrestling, his skinny body couldn’t handle the power doubles, for sure.”
“And, I think he knows Pedro (Munhoz) will be more comfortable standing with him for longer periods of time,” Ricky Simon said. “He won’t give him that wrestling, look, I’m just such a bad matchup for him at this stage of his career that he’s just not gonna take the fight, which is – alright, if you want to play your way to the title, that’s all you, good on you. Don’t be saying my name and act like you wanna fight me, and not fight me, ‘cause that p*sses me off. I’m all about it. I think I’m the best in the world at this point. … Don’t be talking and acting like you’re something, when you’re not.”
While Simon gears up for his July return against Shore, Dana White’s Contender Series alum, O’Malley is slated to feature opposite Pedro Munhoz at UFC 272 on July 2. during International Fight Week.

UFC Lightweight: Brad Riddell vs. Jalin Turner – July 2
How about this for an intriguing matchup? UFC 276 just got more exciting with the addition of entertaining lightweights Brad Riddell (10-2) and Jalin Turner (12-5). The pair will meet on the July 2 pay-per-view card, which is scheduled for International Fight Week.
Having been the victim of a vicious wheel-kick finish last December, Riddell will look to rebound against the unranked Turner, who is riding a four-fight win streak. After an impressive TKO win against Jamie Mullarkey earlier this year, “The Tarantula” has earned a crack at adding a number next to his name.
This bout was confirmed by Iridium Sports Agency, the team that manages Turner.

UFC Bantamweight: Ricky Simón vs. Jack Shore – July 16
Perhaps the most important matchup put together in terms of divisional rankings sees undefeated bantamweight prospect Jack Shore (16-0) square off against experienced campaigner Ricky Simón (19-3).
Since arriving in the Octagon in 2019, Shore has maintained his perfect professional record with five Octagon triumphs, including submissions of Nohelin Hernandez and Aaron Phillips. Most recently, the Welshman thrilled the UK crowd at UFC London with unanimous decision victory over Timur Valiev, a win that eventually aided his ascent into the rankings, where he currently occupies the #14 slot.
Simón, who sits two places above “Tank” on the bantamweight ladder, is in similarly impressive form. The nine-fight promotional veteran has won four straight, including a December 2021 knockout victory over the ranked Raphael Assunção.
UFC Featherweight: Billy Quarantillo vs. Bill Algeo – July 16
In the featherweight division, the always-entertaining Billy Quarantillo (16-4) is set for his first appearance of 2022. At the July 16 UFC Fight Night, he’ll take on former CFFC champion Bill Algeo (15-6).
Since earning a contract through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, Quarantillo has gone 4-2 inside the Octagon. Across his last four outings, “Billy Q” has traded wins and losses, having his hand raised against Kyle Nelson and Gabriel Benitez, while falling to defeats against Gavin Tucker and, in a wild fight at UFC 268 last November, the ranked Shane Burgos.
While Quarantillo will look to rebound on July 16, Algeo will be fighting to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in his UFC career. In his 2-2 promotional slate, “Señor Perfecto” has outpointed Spike Carlyle and Joanderson Brito, but lost on the scorecards to a pair of Ricardos in Lamas and Ramos.

UFC Welterweight: Li Jingliang vs. Muslim Salikhov – July 16
If your plate hasn’t been filled with July 16 news, here’s a third bout announced for that particular UFC Fight Night card, this time in the welterweight division.
Per MMA Fight Universe, #13-ranked contender Li Jingliang (18-7) will make his first appearance since being decimated by Khamzat Chimaev this summer. In his way of a successful rebound will be elite striker Muslim Salikhov (18-2).
While “The Leech” will look to maintain his spot in the rankings and return to the kind of form that saw him brutally knock Santiago Ponzinibbio out last January, the “King of Kung Fu” will be targeting a sixth addition to his win streak, which has seen him collect victories over the likes of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Francisco Trinaldo.
UFC Lightweight: Drew Dober vs. Rafael Alves – July 30
In another potential banger, this time at 155 pounds, lightweight veteran Drew Dober (24-11-1) will throw down with DWCS alum Rafael Alves (20-10) at UFC 277 on July 30, per MMA Fight Universe.
The formerly ranked Dober has been a mainstay in the Octagon since 2013, a period in which he’s faced the likes of Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev. Having rebounded from a two-fight losing skid last time out with a memorable come-from-behind TKO of the highly-touted Terrance McKinney, the entertaining Nebraskan will look to edge closer to the rankings against Alves.
The Brazilian has gone 1-1 in the Octagon since earning a contract. Following a decision loss to Damir Ismagulov last May, “The Turn” entered the win column in the UFC for the first time with a first-round submission victory over Marc Diakiese six months later.
UFC Middleweight: Gerald Meerschaert vs. Bruno Silva – August 13
Finally, in another intriguing scrap, this time in the middleweight division, veteran submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert (34-15) will share the Octagon with Brazilian brawler Bruno Silva (22-7).
After back-to-back losses, including a 17-second KO setback to Khamzat Chimaev, Meerschaert found form with three consecutive wins, all of which came via submission. Having failed to maintain his streak last time out against Krzysztof Jotko, “GM3” will hope to avoid falling to a losing skid when he battles Silva.
“Blindado” will also be targeting a rebound performance having had his lengthy win streak ended. After seven consecutive victories, including three UFC knockouts, Silva fell short in a memorable three-round fight against world-class kickboxer Alex Pereira earlier this year.
Per Brazilian outlet Ag.Fight, the pair will collide at the UFC event slated for August 13, where it’ll be 19 KOs versus 26 submissions.
