Today’s (Sun., May 6, 2018) Rizin FF 10 from the Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan, provided a hard-hitting night of action for fans of Japanese MMA.

In the main event, former UFC flyweight title contender Kyoji Horiguchi knocked out fellow UFC vet Ian McCall in an alarming nine seconds with a massive counter left hook.

UFC veteran Daron Cruickshank also got in on the action as well, scoring an integral victory over Koshi Matsumoto after two consecutive stoppage losses in his previous two bouts.

The Taekwondo black belt came out head-hunting early, looking to nail Matsumoto with high kicks from the bout’s outset. One eventually landed towards the final minute of the opening round, knocking Matsumoto out instantly and putting Cruickshank back into the win column.

“The Detroit Superstar” then added his own bit of post-win smack talk by flipping off his knocked out opponent. Watch the huge knockout here:

The Rizin World Grand Prix saw some early hijinks at weigh-ins when former UFC title contender Ian McCall got into a tussle with opponent Manel Kape which lead to a few blows being thrown.

But that was far from the only drama for the December 29-30 event from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

An already controversial bout between hulking Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Gabi Garcia and 53-year-old Shinobu Kandori took a turn for the worse when Garcia stepped on the scales at 12kg (26.4 pounds) over for their 95kg-fight (209.4 pounds). The bout was reportedly called off immediately.

Here’s video of the massive miss:

Garcia was set to face Kandori, who hasn’t fought in MMA in 17 years, at last year’s Rizin World Grand Prix 2016: Final Round, but an injury forced Kandori out of the fight. She was placed by Yumiko Hotta, who Garcia beat in 41 seconds.

Rizin has not made an official announcement canceling the fight, but Garcia’s entire year has been plagued by strange happenings as she continues to fight women much smaller than her. She fought Megumi Yabushita under Shootboxing rules this summer, and the fight was called off after she landed an illegal soccer kick. She then fought Oksana Gagloeva at Rizin World Grand Prix 2017 Opening Round – Part 1 on July 30, but again saw a no contest result after she poked her opponent in the eye.

Garcia told MMA Fighting she had only arrived in Japan a day before weigh-ins and had only missed weight by 8.8 pounds.

With losses in 14 out of his last 16, former Pride FC and K-1 attraction Bob Sapp has long been light years away from true combat sports relevancy.

Now, however, the hulking super heavyweight is facing disgrace of an entirely different and more concerning type, as Japanese outlet Shukan Bunshun (via Bloody Elbow) has reported that Sapp recently had some incredibly concerning domestic violence allegations leveled towards him.

Apparently his girlfriend has released pictures detailing the alleged assault, and needless to say, the images aren’t for the squeamish. Check them out here:

The report said that the supposed victim was yet to be named, but had dated Sapp since 2011 and had also helped him with management of his fighting career.

The alleged attacks reportedly go back to March 2016.

Even more evidence has surfaced as well, with the following Facebook message exchange supposedly coming from Sapp to the reported victim:

Sapp was once known for taking all-time great Pride heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to the limit years ago, but has since become a punching bag of sorts who is known to tap out at the first sign of adversity.

However, that hasn’t stopped him from being at least some sort of attraction in his adopted home of Japan, with him reportedly meeting a bear in a contest of strength at a year-ending show called Kyokugen 2017 while also being rumored to be taking on retired sumo wrestler Yokozuna Asashoryu for Japan’s web TV service AbemaTV on New Year’s Eve.

No word has arrived on whether or not these allegations will affect those two appearances.
