Ryan Hall has suffered another setback.

The featherweight contender was set to battle Dan Ige in the UFC’s upcoming March 13 event. However, that will no longer be the case following an injury in training that has ruled him out of the contest following multiple reports.

As per Hall, the injury was a torn hip flexor during his training camp and despite his best efforts to compete through the injury, he ultimately had to drop out. He is now looking to compete in May or June.

It’s a big blow for Hall who hasn’t competed since 2019. Part of that is because of injury issues but another major factor was his struggle to land a ranked opponent as he had repeatedly claimed that the rest of the top 15 were avoiding him.

Ige was the one to step up but in the end, Hall will have to wait even longer before he can compete. His last outing was a unanimous decision victory over Darren Elkins back in July 2019.

As for Ige, he will require a new opponent though it isn’t known if he will remain on the card.

The Hawaiian is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Calvin Kattar in July and will be looking to return to the win column. Prior to that, Ige was on a six-fight winning streak.

Ryan Hall finally has a fight.

That’s according to BJ Penn who report that a featherweight bout between the jiu-jitsu black belt and Dan Ige has been agreed to for the UFC’s upcoming March 13 event. The contracts have already been sent out though there is no location for the event as of now.

Hall hasn’t competed since his unanimous decision win over Darren Elkins back in July 2019. He was set to face Ricardo Lamas next only to pull out due to injury. He has since had trouble landing a ranked opponent as he would label himself the most ducked fighter in the UFC.

Most recently, Hall had been calling out The Korean Zombie and was frustrated with the former title challenger not responding to him. However, he previously called out Ige as well.

“Dan Ige is a warrior who always puts on a great show, has clearly demonstrated a willingness to test himself against the best, and we’re next door in the featherweight rankings. What do you think, @dynamitedan808? Fight Island in January?”

It appears Ige is game.

Ige last competed in July when he was outpointed by Calvin Kattar. It was his first loss since January 2018 and he will be looking to return to the win column soon.

Currently ranked No. 11, it is also a big chance for Hall — ranked No. 13 — to further move up the ranks. All in all, it promises to be a great fight and the biggest test of Hall’s career.

Featherweight contender Ryan Hall was not impressed with The Korean Zombie’s callout of Zabit Magomedsharipov.

Zombie is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Brian Ortega in October and is now looking to return to the win column as well as title contention.

With Ortega set to challenge current champion Alexander Volkanovski next, Zombie recently called for a fight with Magomedsharipov.

“I want Zabit (Magomedsharipov),” he said. “That’s the fight that’s going to get me closest to a title shot. More than that, I want to once again try to prove myself against one of the hottest fighters in the division and prove that I’m still capable of competing at the highest level. Of course, I would understand if he doesn’t want to fight me.

“… This is a fight that would bring the fans to their feet. (He) and I are both entertainers and extremely competitive, so I think he’d like to step in the octagon with me. A win for both of us would mean a lot for our careers, and it would be an amazing match. The ball is in Zabit’s court; I want this fight to kick off 2021.”

Of course, Hall had recently called for a fight with Zombie as he struggles to find a ranked opponent to face.

And once he learned of Zombie’s callout, he made sure to fire a shot at the former title challenger on Wednesday.

“Anyone know how to say “you lost your last fight” in Korean? @KoreanZombieMMA”

While Hall is right to be frustrated, the reality is he is ranked No. 13 in the featherweight rankings and it makes little sense for Zombie — ranked no. 5 — to face him next.

Hopefully, Hall is able to land a ranked opponent sooner rather than later. The American last competed in July 2019 when he outpointed Darren Elkins.

UFC featherweight Ryan Hall is fed up of not being able to land a ranked opponent.

Hall has become notorious for being one of the most avoided fighters on the roster. The jiu-jitsu black belt last competed in July last year when he comfortably outpointed Darren Elkins.

He was most recently set to compete against former title challenger Ricardo Lamas in May until the event was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was rescheduled for August only for Hall to pull out due to injury with Lamas retiring after defeating short-notice opponent Bill Algeo.

And since then, the list of fighters turning him down has only increased.

“We came here to fight the best and have been consistently avoided,” Hall told MMA Fighting. “I am unbeaten [in the UFC] and have won each of my fights in one-sided fashion. The narrative that I have or ever would pull out of a fight is false. I signed and trained to fight two times this year, and both fell out at great expense to myself.

“I am not some kind of trained monkey or gimmick who is waiting around to do one-offs against whatever grappling-based fighter people happen to be excited about at a given time. I want the best. Period. I believe that my results justify nothing less.”

Hall had previously called out a number of featherweight contenders who had either turned him down or were unavailable at the time.

That was back in February and the story remains the same for the No. 12-ranked Hall.

“These ‘ranked fighters’ are making Sean Shelby’s job impossible,” Hall said. “It’s at a point where the UFC either needs to force the fighters ahead of me to accept or pay me to retire and leave them in peace. Maybe they can take up a collection.”

Hall’s next target is seemingly The Korean Zombie who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Brian Ortega last month.

The Korean Zombie is yet to answer the call as of now. But no matter what eventually happens, Hall’s goal is to be active in 2021.

“Ryan is coming after the rankings,” Hall’s manager Nima Safapour said. “Someone either steps up finally or they get called out for running. Their choice but he needs a fight and his goal is to fight three times in 2021. He is focused on getting the title.”

What do you think of Hall’s situation?
