Despite claims from Dominance MMA leader, Ali Abdelaziz that his client, former duel-weight UFC champion, Henry Cejudo will snap his three-year MMA retirement to compete for undisputed bantamweight gold against champion, Alajmain Sterling, the latter appears to have focus set on #1 ranked contender, Sean O’Malley next, instead.

Sterling, the current undisputed bantamweight champion, co-headlined UFC 280 back in October of this year in Abu Dhabi, UAE – successfully defending his undisputed crown with a second round ground strikes TKO win over former two-time champion, T.J. Dillashaw.

In the time since, Aljamain Sterling has been linked with a host of potential opponents for his next title fight, including both Marlon Vera and Cory Sandhagen – who have both since been matched to fight each other in February, as well as title fights with both O’Malley, and the aforenoted, Cejudo.

Sharing a post at the turn of the New Year, Sterling teased a return fight against Montana native in his next Octagon appearance, detailing how his training for 2022 had come to a close.

“Last workout of 2022!” Aljamain Sterling said on his official Instagram account. “Getting ready for @sugasean (Sean O’Malley) (backpack emoji)

Initially winning the undisputed title in a highly-publicized disqualification win over former champion, Petr Yan last year, Aljamain Sterling successfully unified the titles in April of last year in a rematch win over the Russian, prior to his October finish of Dillashaw.

At the same Abu Dhabi, UAE event, O’Malley earned the #1 rank in the official bantamweight pile with a close split decision win over Yan. And in the time since, has insisted he will likely wait to fight for a title in his next Octagon walk, rather than defend his status as number one contender.

Aljamain Sterling has been linked with a UFC 285 title clash against Henry Cejudo

Sterling had been linked continually with a title fight opposite Cejudo in March of this year at UFC 285, however, the matchup has yet to be officially announced by the organization.

Expected to challenge for UFC bantamweight gold in his next Octagon appearance, the current #1 ranked division contender, Sean O’Malley claims he can see a scenario in which the title is vacant this summer – before he lands a rematch with the surging Ecuador finisher, Marlon Vera.

O’Malley, the current number one contender in the promotion’s bantamweight pile, earned that summit with a close, split decision win over former undisputed champion, Petr Yan at UFC 280 on ‘Fight Island’ back in October.

Linked with an immediate title shot against division kingpin, Aljamain Sterling in his next outing, O’Malley is likely to sit in waiting as former two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo draws closer to snapping a three-year retirement from mixed martial arts competition.

Sean O’Malley predicts a vacant title rematch with Marlon Vera this summer

Expected to remain sidelined and wait for his premier tilt at UFC gold, O’Malley, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, laid out a potential scenario in which he has see himself featuring at an International Fight Week event this summer in a title rematch with Chone contender, Vera.

“Henry (Cejudo) [and] Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) [are] kind of lurking around over there,” Sean O’Malley told The Schmo during a recent interview. “If I had to guess what’s taking so long, Aljo’s over thee in Jamaica, you know, doing his thing. And Henry seems like he’s ready to go. He may be 5’3”, but he’s ready to go.”

“So I’m curious when that fight plays out – I’m hoping the sooner the better for me because that means I get to fight sooner,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I’m taking the winner of those two – unless Aljo goes up to 145 (pounds), ‘Chito’ (Marlon Vera) beats Cory (Sandhagen) – vacant belt. ‘Sugar’ versus f*cking ‘Chito’, July, International Fight Week.” (Transcribed by Middleeasy)

First meeting Vera back in the co-main event of UFC 252 back in August 2020, O’Malley suffered the sole professional loss of his career, dropping a first round ground strikes TKO loss to Vera after suffering drop foot earlier in the round.

In the midst of a stunning four-fight winning streak which includes stunning knockout wins over former champions, Frankie Edgar, and Dominick Cruz, Vera is scheduled to headline a UFC Fight Night event on February 18. next against division tactician, Cory Sandhagen.

Conor McGregor

UFC bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley has questioned if former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has been successfully avoiding USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) testing over the course of the last year, by travelling around the seas via his yacht.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, however, has yet to feature inside the Octagon since he suffered a fractured left tibia and fibula in a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July of last year.

Yet to be tested by anti-doping agency and UFC partners, USADA since the third quarter of last year, the 34-year-old has been subject to speculation in the time since, regarding his status as a clean athlete, with commenters questioning his sudden mass gain in his time since last featuring under the UFC banner.

Expected to make his Octagon comeback at some stage next summer, Conor McGregor has been linked with a potential fight with one-time vacant title challenger, Michael Chandler.

Sean O’Malley comments on Conor McGregor’s USADA absence

Discussing McGregor’s comeback to the Octagon next year, the #1 ranked bantamweight contender, O’Malley weighed in on the Dubliner’s avoidance of anti-doping tests from USADA, suggesting the former is simply avoiding testing by travelling on his yacht.

“I’m so curious as to who Conor’s going to fight,” Sean O’Malley said on The Joe Rogan Experience. “I wonder if he looks at Michael Chandler, ‘cause at one point – Chandler throws bombs, but he throws hooks.”

“I guess he’s (Conor McGregor) not even in the pool anymore,” Sean O’Malley explained. “… I think six months (before he can compete). I don’t know, it’s hard to say – I don’t know why he was out of the pool. I don’t know if they took him out because he’s on a f*cking yacht and he’s just untestable. He’s just, f*cking – how are you going to test him? It’s crazy. I literally don’t think – I don’t think he got tested this year.”

Daniel Cormier urges Sean O’Malley to avoid fight with Merab Dvalishvili next: ‘He could present some problems’

Former duel-weight UFC champion, Daniel Cormier has advised current #1 ranked bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley to weigh up a potential title shot in the division next, however, urges him to avoid a fight with Georgian wrestling ace, Merab Dvalishvili first and foremost.

Cormier, a former undisputed light heavyweight and heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, called time on his professional mixed martial arts career back in August 2020 – suffering a title challenge loss to three-time opponent, Stipe Miocic atop a UFC 252 pay-per-view card.

For O’Malley, the Montana native earned the number one rank in the official bantamweight pile back in October, securing a close, split decision win over former champion, Petr Yan on the main card of UFC 280. In the time since, O’Malley has insisted he has been “guaranteed” a title fight in his next Octagon appearance.

“I’m in a tricky position,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I always knew I’d be in this position where you’re at the top of the division. It doesn’t really make sense to fight. I’m guaranteed a title shot. Obviously, ‘Aljo’ and Henry still have to be announced. I’m kind of in that position where do I be smart – like I’vd done my entire career – and just wait for those two dorks to fight or do I risk it and go fight someone else? Which wouldn’t be the intelligent thing to do, but it’s like you only get so many years to fight. I don’t really feel like sitting around too much. I’m leaning towards wairing around for ‘Aljo’ and Henry to fight and just wait for that.”

Daniel Cormier has offered some advice to Sean O’Malley

According to Cormier, however, Sean O’Malley should wait for that title siege in his next walk, and urges him to avoid a potential problematic stylistic battle with Serra-Longo MMA grappling phenom, Dvalishvili next.

“There’s only one name that I would steer clear of if I’m Sean O’Malley, and that’s Merab Dvalishvili,” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “Because I believe that Merab and his pressure fighting style could present some matchups problems for O’Malley. Am I saying no, he can’t win? Not at all. But I’m saying because of the wrestling, the pressure, you don’t want to be stuck in there with Merab. The dude’s a savage.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow

Riding an impressive run of eight straight wins, Dvalishvili, who most recently handed former featherweight kingpin, Jose Aldo a unanimous decision defeat at UFC 278 in August, currently holds the number three rank in the official bantamweight rankings.

O’Malley, undefeated in his last five consecutive Octagon outings, featured on the main card of UFC 280 back in October of this year, defeating Dudinka striker and former undisputed champion, Yan in a close, split judging victory in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Off the back of the victory, O’Malley, who earned the #1 rank in the official bantamweight rankings with his judging win against Yan, was immediately linked with a title fight against undisputed titleholder, Aljamain Sterling next.

However, in the time since, Sterling has welcomed a potential title fight with former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight champion, Henry Cejudo – with the Olympic gold medalist linked with a March return against the Uniondale native.

Sean O’Malley insists he’s been guaranteed a UFC title shot next

Despite the fact O’Malley may miss out on the next bantamweight title fight, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum has claimed, however, that he’s been “guaranteed” a title shot next.

“I’m just training, I’m getting better,” Sean O’Malley said during an appearance on Believe You Me. “I know I need to improve in aspects of my grappling whether I fight ‘Aljo’ or Henry. They’re both very heavy grapplers, so I’m fine with sitting out. I’m literally just grappling. That’s all I’m really doing nowadays. I’m fine waiting a couple months, just keep getting better.”

“I’m in a tricky position,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I always knew I’d be in this position where you’re at the top of the division. It doesn’t really make sense to fight. I’m guaranteed a title shot. Obviously, ‘Aljo’ and Henry still have to be announced. In rather jokingly fashion, UFC bantamweught contender, Sean O’Malley has claimed middleweight challenger, Sean Strickland would not shock him if it transpired the outspoken contender turned out to a murderer in years to come, touting him to feature in a true story crime documentary on streaming platform, Netflix.

O’Malley, the current #1 ranked bantamweight contender under the banner of the UFC, earned his spot atop his fellow challengers with a split decision win over former undisputed titleholder, Petr Yan on the main card of UFC 280 back in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

For Strickland, the middleweight contender headlined UFC Vegas 66 on Saturday against Jared Cannonier – suffering his second consecutive loss in the form of another criticized split decision (49-46, 46-49, 49-46) loss

A high-profile contender at 185lbs, Strickland had amassed a seven-fight winning run prior to his July knockout loss to current middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, however, rose to prominence with some outspoken thoughts and comments on the transgender community – which seen him lose his official Twitter account.

Infamously, last year, Strickland claimed he had dreamt of potentially killing an opponent inside the Octagon during the course of a fight, leading to an outcry of criticism, with the UFC electing against sanctioning the North Carolina striker.

Sean O’Malley speculates Sean Strickland will land himself on a Netflix true crime feature

Sharing his thoughts on Strickland’s personality and persona, the aforenoted Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Sean O’Malley claimed the former would not surprise him if it transpired he had murdered someone before.

“If someone’s going to be a murderer in a Netflix series in a couple of years, it’s going to be Sean Strickland,” Sean O’Malley said on his podcast. “He’ll be like, ‘I’m going to have a series come out where I killed my wife.’” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda

Prior to his judging win over Yan earlier this year on ‘Fight Island’ – O’Malley managed to land consecutive victories over Raulian Paiva, Kris Moutinho, and Thomas Almeida – before an official ‘No Contest’ with veteran, Pedro Munhoz.
