Colby Covington has taken aim at former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland after his recent comments on fighter pay.

Strickland recently blasted BKFC over fighter pay but also said the UFC doesn’t pay their fighters enough and he advocates for better pay.

Sean Strickland

“UFC pay is utter garbage,” Strickland wrote. “lol their signing guys at 10/10 that should be criminal … but the vast majority of BKFC fighters are getting paid way less than that … As a UFC fighter I advocate for better pay for me and the entire roster … You should do the same for your guys.”

After Strickland’s comments, Covington went on a podcast and took aim at the former champ as he called him a hypocrite.

“My thoughts are, Sean changed his life so he’s kind of hypocritical to be saying this,” Covington told SOSCAST (via MMAMania). “Now he lives in a really nice mansion-style house, you know, has great cars, and has money in the bank, so who is he to say this? He’s literally being a hypocrite too, like, he’s talking about the guys that just started in UFC. He’s talking about the 10/10 pay? Yeah, that’s when you get your first fight in UFC; let’s talk about what he’s getting paid now. He’s making a guaranteed $500,000 to 1.5 million in that range.”

It is interesting comments from Covington who didn’t like what Strickland had to say about fighter pay.

Colby Covington still without a fight booked

Colby Covington hasn’t fought since December when he suffered a decision loss to Leon Edwards for the welterweight title in his third crack at becoming the undisputed champion.

Covington has since called out Ian Machado Garry but the fight didn’t come to fruition for unknown reasons. With that, Covington doesn’t have his next fight booked and it’s uncertain who he will fight in his return to the Octagon.

Colby Covington is 17-4 as a pro and is 12-4 in the UFC while being the former interim welterweight champion. He has notable wins over Robbie Lawler, Jorge Masvidal, Rafael dos Anjos, Tyron Woodley, and Demian Maia among others.

Sean Strickland again rips criminal fighter pay in the UFC the pay is utter garbage

Mike Perry has responded to former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland saying BKFC doesn’t pay their fighters well.

Since BKFC was created, they have attracted several big-name fighters to sign there and many have spoken about how they are getting paid well. But, Strickland recently came out and said that was not true and he thinks guys are only making a couple thousand dollars.

“How much would I f—king fight bare knuckle for?” Sean Strickland said at a recent press conference. “Not nothing they would pay me. They’re paying their guys s—t. F—king breaking their hands, breaking their orbitals, making like a couple thousand bucks.”

Eddie Alvarez also disagreed with Strickland’s comments, but Mike Perry says that is not the case. Instead, he says he is getting paid a hefty amount.

“Strickland, he’s fighting for the UFC for pesos, and I’m getting paid over here. He’s always posting videos on Instagram where he walks outside of his garage or his front door, and somebody is in his driveway and he’s trying to fight a bare-knuckle for free right there. What are you talking about Sean?,” Perry said on his Overdogs podcast.

Perry no doubt is getting paid well by BKFC, but Strickland thinks the lower-level fighters are barely making any money.

Sean Strickland also says UFC pay is utter garbage

Although Sean Strickland criticized BKFC’s pay, he also took aim at the UFC pay as well.

Strickland knows pay in MMA could always be better and he thinks the starting salary for UFC fighters is not good. So, the hope for Strickland is pay in all combat sports will improve.

“UFC pay is utter garbage lol their signing guys at 10/10 that should be criminal… but the vast majority of BKFC fighters are getting paid way less than that….. As a ufc fighter I advocate for better pay for me and the entire roster…… You should do the same for your guys,” Strickland wrote in the Instagram comment.

“While I’m on my soap box from a poor man who became kinda a rich man once you have capital it just snow balls. These elites could probably never take a paycheck again and easily make 500k a year…. yet they still line their bank accounts with millions that they will never need or spend. In all industries,” Strickland added.

Israel Adesanya distraught after UFC 293 loss to Sean Strickland we'll get him back

The Last StyleBender’ Israel Adesanya has been a bit quiet since his loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293. The battle was vicious, and although Adesanya weathered an early storm, Strickland’s tenacity was just too much.

Israel Adesanya would end up losing his UFC middleweight title due to a decision loss, and he has been rebuilding himself ever since. Now, new footage has emerged showing just how deep these wounds may have cut into the man’s psyche.

Now, Roku, the streaming device provider/manufacturer: has launched a new series called Fight Inc. Inside the UFC. This series has highlighted some pivotal moments that have occurred recently in the UFC, with never-before-seen footage to boot.

Israel Adesanya’s family is shown reacting to his latest loss inside Roku’s new series

“You are still the champ,” Adesanya’s mother, Taiwo, said, giving her son a hug (H/T MMA Mania). “If you put your gloves down today, you are set for life. So don’t let anything bother you, okay?”

“It’s a good story for (Strickland), I’m proud of him,” Adesanya told his father Oluwafemi. “But I’m gonna get him. We’ll get him back, okay? I promise.”

Israel Adesanya’s coach, Eugene Bareman, tried to heal the heart of his fighter in the meantime. “We had an off night,” he said. “Couldn’t find what we wanted but we will find it again.”

As Dana White approached ‘Izzy’, the former champ still kept his head high. “Thank you for the opportunity,” he told White in a shot taken later. “Thanks for making that fight happen. Again, it doesn’t matter. Even if it’s his night, it doesn’t matter, it’s still history. It’s a good story for him, it’s a good story for America. It is what it is, that’s the game.”

Sean Strickland is keeping the UFC PR department busy.

Despite being a former middleweight world champion, the first thing that comes to a fan’s mind when they’re asked about Strickland is his mouth—more specifically what comes out of it.

Over the last couple of years, ‘Tarzan’ has seen his star rise significantly, though little of it has to do with his talent. Make no mistake, he is talented, as evidenced by his lights-out performance against Israel Adesanya and his solid showing at UFC 302 against Paulo Costa.

Instead, Strickland often sees himself either praised or loathed by fans due to his often controversial and sometimes downright vile commentaries.

Recently, a clip from Fight Inc: Inside the UFC episode two has been making the rounds online, showing a behind-the-scenes look at a UFC PR meeting to discuss some of Sean Strickland’s more unsavory comments ahead of his UFC 293 title tilt with ‘The Last Stylebender’ in September.

UFC PR team failed to keep Sean Strickland in check

Considering Strickland spent a majority of the pre-fight press conference lambasting Adesanya and accusing the two-time titleholder of having an immensely inappropriate relationship with his dog, it’s safe to say that the UFC’s public relations team could have found a better use of their time.

Following his recent call out from fellow former UFC middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, Luek Rockhold has doubled-down on his wish to fight the outspoken contender, labelling the polarizing striker a “fake” as well as a “fraud”.

Rockhold, a former UFC and Strikeforce middleweight gold holder, made his return to combat sports earlier this year in Dubai, landing an impressive knockout win over former kickboxing world champion, Joe Schilling under the banner of Karate Combat.

And featuring against fellow UFC alum, Mike Perry since his exit from the organization, Rockhold made a brief outing under the scrutiny of the BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship), suffering a TKO defeat to the promotional star.

Bowing out of the Octagon following a decision loss to common-foe Paulo Costa – whom Strickland defeated last weekend at UFC 302, Rockhold has since made a stunning plea to CEO, Dana White to offer him a one-fight deal to take on Xtreme Couture staple, Strickland.

Initially set to fight at UFC 268 in November 2021, weeks from the pairing, Rockhold was forced from his showdown with Strickland after suffering a herniated disc in his back.

And offering to spar the Santa Cruz veteran in a bid to settle their differences, Strickland appears to be on the hitlist of Rockhold still, who would prefer to stand opposite him in the UFC.

“He’s (Sean Strickland) a fake little b*tch, I know who he is,” Luke Rockhold said during an appearance on the JAXXON podcast. “I don’t think he believes the sh*t he’s saying these days. He’s just spouting off – if Dana (White) gives me that hall pass, I’ll come in, I will step on that kid.”

“I sparred you [for] one round, f*cked you up and you snuck away like a b*tch, this was witnessed,” Luke Rockhold continued. “Also, we were scheduled to fight, I said ‘Hell yeah, that’s an easy paycheck,” and you pulled out a few weeks out.”
