Sean Strickland argues for title rematch with Dricus du Plessis that needs to be run back

Former undisputed middleweight champion, Sean Strickland insists he wants no part of the politics within the title picture at 185 pounds off the back of his UFC 297 loss to Dricus du Plessis earlier this year, however, claims he should be the next to stand opposite the former in an immediate title rematch.

Strickland, a former undisputed middleweight champion, headlined UFC 297 back in January in  Canada, suffering a close, split decision loss to newly-minted gold holder, du Plessis in the pair’s championship battle.

Retaining the number one ranked at middleweight in the months since his loss, outspoken ex-champion, Strickland has been linked with a title-eliminator against another former gold holder, Robert Whittaker in Perth – potentially in August, however, has yet to be booked since his defeat to the South African.

“You know I don’t care about fight politics or a belt but it makes me laugh they give Izzy (Israel Adesanya) a rematch to Alex (Pereira) after getting slept,” Sean Strickland posted on his official X account. “I lost a close decision that Dana (White) himself thought I won. Everyone did. The stats did. That needs to be run back.” 

Initially winning the title back in September of last year at UFC 293, Strickland turned in one of the biggest upset victories in Octagon memory in a one-sided unanimous decision win over the above-mentioned, Adesanya.

Sean Strickland had some pretty strong opinions about Ryan Garcia’s latest social media post.

After sending fight fans into a panic with a confusing video referencing his own death, Garcia posted a minute-long clip to confirm that he is physically okay, though the former WBC interim lightweight champion looked noticeably dejected. Claiming that he had no access to his phone or credit cards and that someone was attempting to have him jailed, Garcia’s post posed more questions than it provided answers.

Uninterested in the 25-year-old millionaire’s tales of woe online, former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland chimed in, calling ‘The Flash’ a “f*cking p*ssy” and reminding him that there are people in the world with far more important issues.

God I hate famous people. Bro you are f*cking RICH…. They’re kids in salt mines, kids dying of cancer begging for one more day on this earth and you’re having a mental break down on social media.. You f*cking p*ssy,” Strickland wrote in response to Garcia’s video.

Garcia replied, calling Strickland a “bully” and telling him a not-so-subtle way that he needs Jesus.

“If you knew God you wouldn’t hate anyone,” Garcia responded. “You went on and Took advantage of a streamer who was someone with no exp. And you gave him a concussion. You think you are doing a service but really you are just a bully coming in the name of a hero.”

“You get what you want?? Did enough people tell you they love you??? Do you feel better??? You get enough attention lmao!!! Next time just be a man and pull the mother f*cker don’t press post haha fucking woman,” Strickland snapped back.“

Ryan Garcia Pokes fun at Sean strickland’s emotional moment

Garcia also made light of Strickland’s viral appearance on the Theo Von podcast where the outspoken UFC star broke down in tears while discussing his rough upbringing. “Toughest man alive,” Garcia wrote alongside a series of images from the episode. “Captain America look different to me.”

That prompted yet another response from Strickland, calling Garcia an especially vile four-letter word, among other things.

“Lmao I had a 3 minute slip on a podcast talking about real sh*t…. You had a melt down because a girl haha we ain’t the same.. You’re just another c*nt out there looking for attention. You get enough likes? Lmao and bro you know where to find me. Be about it don’t talk about it,” Strickland added.

If there’s one UFC fighter you don’t want to throw a surprise party for, it’s probably Sean Strickland.

That’s exactly what a group of the former middleweight world champion’s friends decided to do, entering his home while he was out to give him a proper surprise for his 33rd birthday. As ‘Tarzan’ returned, he heard strange voices and instinctively reached for his gun, thinking a prowler might be lurking around the corner.

Fortunately, no harm was done and Strickland shared a video of the incident, appropriately entitled ‘Dumb ways to die’ on Instagram.

“What do you do when you walk to your door and you hear voices laughing….. go in half cocked…. lmao! Thank you guys :)”

Despite it being only March, Sean Strickland has had a very busy 2024. After surrendering his 185-pound crown to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297, he pummeled Rumble streamer Sneako which prompted Jake Paul to lay down a $1 million sparring challenge.

He had the opportunity to meet former president Donald Trump, called Machine Gun Kelly a “vampire man” at a Power Slap event during Super Bowl weekend, and sh*t-talked the U.S. Navy SEALs prompting a call out from a legitimate one.

The war of words between Sean Strickland and Jake Paul rages on.

Last month, the two combat sports stars got into a heated exchange on social media after ‘The Problem Child’ took exception to Strickland’s battering of popular Rumble streamer Sneako. Paul challenged Strickland to meet him in Puerto Rico for a sparring session with $1 million on the line.

Strickland accepted the challenge but later revealed that the UFC’s chief business officer Hunter Campbell had blocked him from moving forward. Paul immediately called b*llshit, offering up a series of screenshots revealing a DM exchange between Strickland and himself in an attempt to make it look like ‘Tarzan’ was using his employer as a scapegoat.

Never one to let anyone else have the last word, Strickland fired back on social media, revealing some additional context to the DM exchange along with his own unique commentary.

“Coward and a liar. There are so many legal ways you can die in America. Our founding fathers killed men for less. Bring a gopro, come to my house. State your intent, break a window. I don’t call cops. I don’t press charges. I know you would… but bring the mil please,” Strickland wrote on X.

“Could you picture Jake Paul breaking in my house with a million and a gro pro Saying “I’m here to kill you” lmao Sean you beat a man to death, why didn’t you pull your gun if your life was in danger. “He was on me too fast, I couldn’t get in my pocket” lmao,” Strickland added in a follow-up post.

Jake Paul returns to the ring on Saturday for an MVP event in San Juan, Puerto Rico. ‘The Problem Child’ will meet 17-2 fighter Ryan Bourland in the co-headliner. Though Bourland has been largely inactive over the last 5+ years, he is a former Golden Gloves champion and National Junior Olympian during his amateur career.

Paul is 8-1 in his pro boxing career.

Maybe Sean Strickland just needs a nice long hug from someone who cares.

That is the conclusion drawn by YouTuber-turned-pro-boxer Jake Paul, who suggested that Strickland’s tough guy act is nothing more than a facade designed to hide a man longing for the love and affection he never received from his parental figures.

Or perhaps Sean Strickland is just f*cking crazy.

Either way, it’s quite clear that ‘The Problem Child’ does not like Strickland’s schtick. Paul recently called ‘Tarzan’ out on social media after video footage of the former middleweight champion pummeling popular Rumble streamer Sneako during a sparring session went viral. Paul offered Strickland $1 million to fly to Puerto Rico and spar him in front of cameras.

“The guy seems to be having some sort of quarter-life crisis there and spazzing out on everyone trying to beat up some influencers and such,” Paul said about Strickland.  “It’s a typical story of these UFC guys who call me out and then go quiet.  I said I’ll send you to PJ.  I’ve got DMs.  I’ll put the DMs up on the screen.  I said I’ll send you to PJ.  Let me know where.  We could spar for a million dollars.”  

Paul then proceeded to share his DMs with Strickland.  “Can you come next week?  Any day works!  Will send you a plane,” Paul wrote.  Strickland responded, “I must my Twitter just seen this… What about a real fight? Idk if I can get the UFC on board but with their involvement I think we can make it happen.  Conor did it with Mayweather…”  

Their conversation concluded with Paul adding, “They’ll never let you fight me but you can ask them.  I’m here ready to spar or fight lmk.”  Strickland replied, “I’m gonna to talk to Hunter about a fight.  Man that is a big f*cking paycheck let me see what I can do.”

Jake Paul Accuses Sean Strickland of hiding behind a ‘Tough man complex’

In a video on YouTube, Strickland confirmed that he had spoken to Hunter Campbell — the UFC’s chief business officer — who promptly shut down talks of the pairing.

“All of a sudden it’s, ‘Oh, I would get sued by the UFC if I sparred Jake,’ but you just sparred Sneako.  You could spar with anyone.  Contractually, in your UFC contract, it says nothing about sparring,” Paul said.

“I see a very insecure lost wannabe alpha male that’s hiding behind a tough man complex. He needs a hug. I’ll put my soft hands on his little bald and make him feel the love that his mother or father never gave him.“

Technically, the UFC cannot legally dictate who Sean Strickland spars behind closed doors, but Paul’s challenge was no standard sparring session between two athletes. Paul’s $1 million offer made it a business opportunity that would likely violate the terms of Strickland’s contract.
