Off the back of his spectacular title victory earlier this month at UFC 293, newly-crowned middleweight champion, Sean Strickland has been spotted chasing Monster Energy rep, Hans Molenkamp throughout a gym with a fully functional and lit flamethrower – appearing to singe some hair on the arm of the latter.

Strickland, the newly-minted undisputed middleweight champion, headlined UFC 293 two weeks ago in Sydney, Australia – defeating former two-time titleholder, Israel Adesanya in a one-sided unanimous decision win – scoring one of the biggest upsets wins in UFC title fight antiquity.

And already hitting the headlines following his title win, hugely-outspoken Covina native, Sean Strickland had to repair his actual championship belt in some makeshift fashion in his return to the United States – duct taping a right side panel of the title to the leather belt.

Continuing in his provocative behavior following his championship coronation in Australia, footage has emerged of Strickland chasing the above-mentioned Molenkamp throughout a gym, all while armed with a fully lit flamethrower

Yet to be booked to make his first attempted defense of the middleweight crown in the immediate aftermath of UFC 293, Strickland has been pegged to potentially defend his title in an immediate championship rematch against the above-mentioned, Adesanya.

Furthermore, the Californian has also received call outs from the surging number one ranked, Dricus du Plessis, as well as one-time title challenger, Jared Cannonier – whom defeated Strickland before his championship win in a close, debated decision victory back in Decemebr atop a UFC Apex facility card.

Remaining coy on his fighting future following his title win, Strickland is currently on vacation with his girlfriend – whom has been credited with making a huge difference in the newly-crowned champion’s life prior to his title win.

To say Strickland’s recent title win was a shock is an understatement. While the American had proven himself as a competent top-10 middleweight, hardly any analyst, fighter or media member picked him to win.

However, he did Strickland would drop Adesanya in the first round and would continue to walk down and win a comfortable decision. Many have talked about Adesanya’s lack of performance rather than Strickland’s outstanding one.

Jon Anik gives his thoughts on Israel Adesanya’s performance

Talking to MMA Fighting,  Jon Anik would give his thoughts on the recent title fighting and would give an honest and fair assessment. Anik claimed that while Strickland was always capable, Adesanya could have been overlooking his opponent going into the bout.

“This sport oftentimes produces the unthinkable,” Anik said. “And anything can and does happen in some of these other sports, but just not with the frequency with which it happens in our sport. And there were a lot of people asking me if there was betting value on Sean Strickland, and I didn’t even necessarily know how to answer that question.

“Was he capable of this masterpiece? Yes. Can he execute like this again? I would think probably. But I do believe that the other side discounted him a little bit and didn’t necessarily understand what he was capable of, and they paid the ultimate price.” (H/T MMA News)

It isn’t clear if the UFC will pursue a rematch between Strickland and Adesanya, or whether Strickland will take on one of the other middleweight contenders.

We finally have an idea regarding what Israel Adesanya told Sean Strickland following their five-round clash at UFC 293.

Strickland shocked the world on September 9, scoring a decisive unanimous decision victory over ‘The Last Stylebender’ to claim the middleweight world championship. Given Strickland’s status as a 7-to-1 underdog, nobody expected ‘Tarzan’ to come out on top, and certainly not in the fashion that he did it.

Israel Adesanya has remained uncharacteristically quiet following his second title loss in less than a year, but he had plenty to say to Sean Strickland inside the Octagon moments after the clock ran out on their main event clash in The Land Down Under. At the time, it was hard to make out what was being said between the two. Strickland shed some light on the conversation during his appearance at the post-fight press event, but courtesy of a transcription shared by Bloody Elbow, we now have a much better idea of what the ‘Stylebender’ said.

“Don’t ever joke about my family, bro,” Adesanya appeared to say. “Just look at me. I know that you think I f*cked my dog. For sure. That’s my dog and that’s no bullsh*t, so please. Hold up, hold up. I would never bring your family into this.”

Much of the build-up for the middleweight title tilt surrounded a viral video of Adesanya touching his dog inappropriately. Strickland regularly made light of the clip, accusing Adesanya of producing “puppy porn” and getting a little too intimate with his dog. Adesanya later revealed that the animal in question had since passed away and it was clear that Strickland’s comments had struck a chord with the two-time titleholder.

As we see in the video, Sean Strickland apologized for the remarks and showed nothing, but respect to the former champion during their brief post-fight interaction.

Israel Adesanya tipped to receive UFC title rematch with Sean Strickland next: ‘He’s Dana White’s boy’

Israel Adesanya touted as Dana White's boy will receive immediate UFC title rematch

Despite continued speculation regarding an immediate championship rematch for Israel Adesanya following upset loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 last weekend, the City Kickboxing has nothing to fear for regarding his chances of fighting for gold again, with ex-two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo labelling him as “Dana White’s boy”.

Headlining UFC 293 earlier this month in Sydney, Australia, Adesanya dropped a one-sided unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) loss to Covina native, Strickland in the Octagon’s return ‘Down Under’, suffering his first official knockdown during his time under the promotion’s banner to boot.

And despite losing four of five rounds in a relatively comprehensive decision loss to Xtreme Couture, Strickland, Adesanya was immediately pegged as a potential candidate to challenge the newly-minted titleholder, Strickland – in the form of an immediate rematch.

Receiving falk for a potential booking of Adesanya opposite Strickland in another immediate championship re-run, UFC CEO, White has since claimed there are more options for the middleweight title’s future, than just a rematch.

However, as far as Olympic gold medalist and former flyweight and bantamweight champion, Cejudo is concerned, Adesanya will likely to receive another title outing next, due to White’s apparent “love” for him.

“After losing four rounds to one, does he (Israel Adesanya) deserve a rematch now? No,” Henry Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe it, Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe it, the rest of the whole damn world doesn’t believe it. Will he get it? One hundred percent. When you’re Dana White’s boy, when you’re his cash cow, when you’re an entertainer and when you’ve done special things like Israel and you’ve been able to kind of grow the sport, Dana White will give you that opportunity.”

“My question is for you, Israel: is it smart for you to take a fight against a guy like Sean Strickland?” Henry Cejudo continued. “Is Sean Strickland the guy to come back after being dominated in a five round fight? I didn’t see that spark in him. It was a trip. It’s not like Sean Strickland even did anything special either. He fought him the way he fought everybody else, and he was able to win.”

Sean Strickland predicted shock win over Israel Adesanya two years ago you have to fight him

Turning in a stunning upset victory against two-time middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya last weekend, Sean Strickland appears to have predicted his exact victory over the Nigerian-Kiwi more than two years ago ahead of his UFC 293 title win – claiming he would need to take a firm fight to the former.

Strickland, who headlined UFC 293 last weekend against defending middleweight champion, Adesanya, managed to win the divisional crown with a shocking upset win, stopping the City Kickboxing staple’s second title reign with a one-sided unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) decision win.

Forcing Adesanya to fight exclusively in a countering fashion in their Sydney, Australia showdown, despite dropping the second round to the two-time champion, Strickland got off to a stunning start, becoming the first fighter to score an official knockdown on Adesanya, dropping his with a counter right hand straight.

Winning rounds three, four, and five on all three judge’s scorecards furthermore, Strickland, who firmly and comfortably out-striked and out-pointed Adesanya throughout the clash, managed to predict the exact outcome and gameplan he would use to defeat the champion, more than two years ago in resurfaced interview footage.

“Ah, dude, (Israel) Adesanya, he’s one of the best strikers in the f*cking world, man,” Sean Strickland told LowKick MMA. “He’s another guy that’s like – you’re not gonna go and outpoint Adesanya. You’re not gonna go out there and out-strike Adesanya, you’re gonna have to go in there and f*cking fight him.”

“Same thing with Uriah Hall, I’m not gonna go out there and play tag with Uriah Hall, if I’m gonna do that, he’s gonna catch me,” Sean Strickland explained. “I have to go in there and fight Uriah Hall – you have to go in there and fight Adesanya, you know.”

Lined up to potentially face former champion, Adesanya in an immediate championship rematch – potentially as soon as December, Strickland has already made some alterations to his championship title however, requiring duct tape to repair a side panel of the belt that he somehow managed to break within less than three days of winning the crown.

Kamaru Usman believes he rushed into trilogy fight with Leon Edwards: ‘This guy shouldn’t have beat me’

Kamaru Usman believes he may have rushed into his trilogy bout with Leon Edwards.

August 20 was the one-year anniversary of Usman’s stunning fifth-round knockout loss to ‘Rocky’ at UFC 278. After spending 24 minutes of the bout in complete control, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ succumbed to a hail-mary head kick KO with 56 seconds left in the contest. With Usman capturing a victory over Edwards in 2015, the two fighters were deadlocked at 1-1 leading to a trilogy bout at UFC 286 in March.

Given his otherwise dominant performance for the majority of their penultimate meeting, Kamaru Usman entered the threequel as the favorite once again. However, this time, it was Edwards who would put on the dominant performance from bell to bell, securing a majority decision to retain the welterweight world title and hand Usman back-to-back losses for the first time in his mixed martial arts career.

Looking back on his performance, Kamaru Usman believes that he may have rushed his return to the Octagon.

“I was in his position and I honestly, looking back now, I probably rushed it,” Usman said on DC & RC. “I probably should have taken a little bit more time off. Then if I’m still guaranteed that shot, go fight for that title. Now, a big part of the reason where you jump into the immediate rematch is — and I would say this to myself in my case as well — when you’re in the middle of a title reign, I don’t want a day to go by that I’m not the man in charge.

“That when they think of the welterweight division, they don’t think about my name as No. 1. So, after that fight, I’m like, ‘You know what? No. I’m not gonna give this man an opportunity to carry around my belt to say he’s the champion and start to do certain things and think of himself as the champion.’ Because the longer that is, the more they start to build that confidence and that bravado, and I don’t like that. So, as a competitor, I was like, ‘No, let’s go ahead and get this one out of the way. Send him back on down to where he belongs as a contender.’

“For Israel, I’m sure as a competitor he’s feeling a little bit of this as well and thinking, ‘This guy shouldn’t have beat me in the first place,’ just like I felt. ‘This guy shouldn’t even be in there with me in the first place,’ as I felt. So, you want to get it back and get that stain off of you right away but if you’re guaranteed that shot, I would like to see him take a little bit of time. Enjoy life but not to say he’s not gonna train or be in the mix. Of course, as a champion, we always watch everything. We see all. So, I would like to see him take a little bit of time and just really indulge and be who he really is and let your body rest and recover” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Kamaru Usman Comments on Sean Strickland’s Defeat of Israel Adesanya

UFC 293 saw the fall of another African-born world champion after Israel Adesanya suffered a lopsided unanimous decision defeat at the hands of often outspoken and unlikely contender Sean Strickland. Like Leon Edwards‘ performance against Usman at UFC 286, Strickland dictated the action for a full five rounds, leaving absolutely no question who the champion was once we went to the scorecards.

“Sean Strickland is not an easy guy to fight,” Usman said. “Especially with the way ‘Izzy’ fights, this is just kind of a style that will potentially neutralize that type of style. So, we have to give credit where credit is due here. Sean Strickland did his thing but it’s not hard to see the Israel Adesanya that we’re all used to seeing wasn’t the Israel Adesanya we saw last weekend.”
