Former UFC title challenger, Derrick Lewis drops three places in the newest UFC heavyweight rankings update.

Last Saturday saw Lewis drop his third straight loss, making it 1-4 in his last five fights, all of which have come by stoppage. Serghei Spivak took Lewis down six times, eventually sinking in an arm triangle just after three minutes in the first round – Lewis landed zero punches.

In the newest UFC rankings update, Lewis dropped three places in the ranking, 7 to ten and the loss marks Lewis’ worst run in the promotion. His previous three losses came to Sergei Pavlovich, Tai Tuivasa, and Ciryl Gane, and while there is no shame in any of those losses, Lewis’ performance have left much to be desired.

Spivak however finds himself up four spots and is now ranked No.8 and positions himself for another big fight.

Lewis is now 38 and has now suffered seven career knockout losses and has certainly hit a low point in his career. However, UFC President Dana White confirmed at the post-fight press conference that Lewis was going nowhere, even after his recent skid.

Not with me, I love the guy, I love him so he’s not going anywhere.” said White

Alistair Overeem admits that once he was told who he’d be fighting next, he had to google who it was. The former title contender is slated to take on fellow heavyweight star Sergey Pavlovich in the co-headliner of UFC Beijing. Overeem is 2-2 in his last four fights and currently on a two-fight losing streak.

He suffered a TKO loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 218, which took place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Overeem was viciously knocked out by the rising contender in the first round of their heavyweight bout. He laid unconscious on the canvas for what felt to be a while after eating a left uppercut from Ngannou.

In his latest fight, he suffered a TKO loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 225. The longtime UFC star talked about his upcoming fight in a recent interview with the UFC’s official website.

“It’s his debut fight in the UFC and he’s an unknown, unfamiliar name to me, so I kind of had to Google and see what that was all about,” Overeem said to UFC.com. “He’s undefeated, so his motivation is going to be there. He’s a young stud. But against those type of guys I always say, ‘Yes.’ The fans can look forward to a very action-packed fight.”

Alistair Overeem Understands His Place

UFC Beijing (also known as UFC Fight Night 141) is set to take place on November 24, 2018 at Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China. The main card will air on UFC’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 6:30 a.m. ET. The preliminary card will also air on Fight Pass at 3:15 a.m. ET.

Overeem continued by stating that he thinks his resume is special as he’s been fighting forever. Thus, when entering this fight he has a certain mindset. That is to get annihilated or do the same to his opponent.

“I’m one of the veterans now and I think my resume is kind of special,” Overeem said. “I’ve been fighting forever, it seems. 88 fights all together with the K-1 and PRIDE and the different organizations. It’s make it or break it for me. Either I annihilate or I get annihilated. Mostly I’m the one doing the annihilating. But we’re back to annihilate some more.”

Alistair Overeem’s return is reportedly headed for the Octagon fairly soon.

EXCLUSIVE: Alistair Overeem vs. Sergey Pavlovich in the works for UFC Beijing (November 24th)

Overeem has had a rough time inside the Octagon recently.

He’s currently on a two-fight losing skid and has been finished both times. The first against Francis Ngannou, who uncorked one of the most hellacious knockouts you’ll ever see at UFC 218 last December.

Six months later, Overeem fell victim to Curtis Blaydes, who finished the Dutchman with some nasty elbows on the ground. Now, Overeem is looking to pick up his first win since July of 2017. He might get that opportunity against Pavlovich.

Pavlovich is undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career thus far. He holds a record of 12-0, finishing nine of his wins via knockout. The Russian has fought his past two fights with the Fight Night Global (FNG) promotion.

However, it looks like he’ll get the call from the UFC to take on one of the division’s best.
