Over the last decade the influx of MMA promotions has been drastic. Regional shows pop up and fold faster now than Blockbuster did in the late 2000’s. A rotating door of people making promises to fighters that are seldom kept. Few with a foundation of stability and a history of promises kept. St. Louis based […]

Axel Cazares vs. Alan Vasquez Booked For Rematch Following ‘Double KO’

Axel Cazares and Alan Vasquez will get a chance to go one-on-one again without knocking each other out. At Shamrock FC 285 back in March, Cazares and Vasquez swung leather early and sent each other crashing to the canvas. It was a “double knockout” that went viral, but Vasquez was given the win because he […]

Shamrock FC Battles Rival Promotion For Sport Integrity: Interview With CEO Jesse Finney

jesse-finney-600x400

Shamrock FC CEO Jesse Finney is known by fighters and coaches as one of the good guys in the sport of MMA.  The Strikeforce veteran, coach, and now CEO has been in the business for a long time. Holding himself and his fighters to a higher standard. Trying to raise the bar for organizations like Shamrock FC, which is the first level for most professional fighters. Shamrock FC has had it’s ups and downs over the last 16 years but nothing compares to what has happened over the last few months. Stolen fighters, lying promoters, and a day in court are just a few factors in this bizarre story between Shamrock FC and Fight Hard MMA.

Kyle Kurtz was scheduled to fight Bobby Voelker in the main event at Shamrock FC 276 on September 24th. Contracts were signed and it seemed like another successful Shamrock card would go on without issue. That was until Fight Hard MMA CEO Kenny Nowling signed Kurtz to fight the prior weekend on September 17th. Violating the contract Kurtz had signed with Shamrock and putting Jesse Finney in a tough spot. Does he spend thousands of dollars to protect his organization and the integrity of the sport does he let it go? Anyone who knows Finney, knows he wouldn’t let Nowling walk all over him. “…I have never had anything even remotely close to this. Now, most people wouldn’t step up and spend over ten thousand dollars to fight this thing. Right, so I think he just thought it was going to just go away, but I was taking a stand for all of Mixed Martial Arts. Like listen, we’ve got to stand up for this. This is an investment…”

On September 15, 2016. A St. Louis County Judge granted Shamrock Promotions, LLC’s Motion for Temporary Restraining prohibiting Kyle Kurtz and Max McNeely from fighting on Fight Hard MMA’s fight card at the Family Arena on September 17, 2016. A win for Shamrock FC and more importantly a win for the MMA community. This isn’t the first, nor will it be the last time something like this happens. Unless promoters like Finney stand up, the structure and integrity of the sports first tier will be compromised. We reached out to Mr. Nowling and Fight Hard MMA with no response. Listen to the interview to hear the full story.

It is still undecided whether or not Kurtz vs. Voelker will happen next Saturday. Regardless Shamrock FC will go on as scheduled. Make sure to tune in and see Dustin Kramer, Scott Heston, Marques Jackson, Eric Ellington, and more on September 24th live from the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, MO.
