The UFC did some spring cleaning this week as they cut several fighters from their roster. The UFC will do this from time to time to make room for new fighters that they sign and to cut the dead weight from their roster that they see fit.
Some of the more notable names that were cut include Danny Castillo and Mike Pierce. The UFC also released several other fighters.
Castillo (17-10) is a member of Team Alpha and lost his last four bouts. Three of those were by split decisions. His latest loss came to Nik Lentz last month at UFC on FOX 17. Castillo, who is 36-years-old, got his start in WEC back in 2008.
Pierce (17-7) was on a four-fight winning streak before losing to Rousimar Palhares in October 2013. He was out for two years following the controversial heel hook loss and returned at TUF 22 Finale but lost that bout to Ryan LaFlare via unanimous decision.
Here is a list of fighters that were cut:

Mike Pierce
Steve Montgomery
Akbarh Arreola
Steven Kennedy
