Sylvester Stallone thinks we are in for a great fight when Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor square off for a third time at UFC 264 on July 10.

The movie star who gained fame through his portrayal of the fictional boxer, Rocky Balboa, says Poirier vs. McGregor is a toss-up despite believing ‘The Diamond’ enters UFC 264 with a distinct advantage.

“That’s a tough one man,” Stallone said when TMZ Sports asked him to predict the UFC 264 main event. “That’s is a real tough one. That one, you could really flip the coin on, it’s like, who hits first. You got a really hungry, young guy (Poirier) and then you got a guy who’s made a lot of money but he’s also sorta hungry (McGregor). You have two guys who are psychologically a little hesitant, but Poirier has the big-time advantage.”

The two top lightweight contenders first battled all the way back at UFC 178, a fight in which McGregor earned a TKO win over Poirier just minutes into the fight.

Earlier this year, Poirier got his revenge when the pair rematched at UFC 257. The former interim lightweight champion wrestled early before finding success with low leg kicks and ultimately closed the show in round two with his elite-level boxing.

Poirier was offered a shot at the undisputed lightweight title after beating McGregor in January but decided to pass up on it and instead chase a mega—money trilogy bout against ‘Notorious’. Charles Oliveira won the previously vacant 155lb title by knocking out Michael Chandler inside two rounds at UFC 262. The winner of Poirier vs. McGregor III will likely be who ‘Do Bronx’ will face in his first title defence.

Do you agree with Sylvester Stallone? Does Dustin Poirier have a “big-time advantage” in his trilogy fight with Conor McGregor?

“The Notorious” has been in the headlines recently for all the wrong reasons again. McGregor smashed a fan’s phone outside of a Miami hotel, stealing it afterward. He was subsequently arrested before later being released on bond.

McGregor adds to a lengthy mean streak, which includes his infamous bus attack prior to UFC 223 last April. Stallone, who was interviewed by TMZ Sports, offered the Irishman some words of advice at his current “crossroads” in life (via MMA Mania):

“I think he should get inspired by all this,” Stallone said. “Like he says ‘Okay, I’ve been going through a very rough time, I’ve been somewhat publicly humiliated, and I’m at a crossroads in my life, I have to prove something, overcome my fear, overcome my incredible opponent who seems invulnerable, Khabib.’

“So this is a crossroads in his life, probably the most important one. If he doesn’t live up to his ideal, if he can’t overcome his fear and beat this man, it will plague him for the rest of this life.”

Stallone then explained why he believes McGregor was “smashed” by Khabib Nurmagomedov last October:

“I think he lost last time because he got resentful, he got prideful, he got arrogant,” Stallone said. “He walked right up to that gentleman and he just got smashed in the face when he could have been defensive. There was no Plan B. Not even a Plan A-minus.”

Photo of the Day: Ronda Rousey Holds a Gun and Scowls on the Set of ‘The Expendables 3?

(Props: epwar on the UG)

Well, we warned you. UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey was recently in Bulgaria filming a role in the latest Expendables sequel, and we just came across this set photo proving that she does get to hold a weapon and be her usual cheery self. Boxing star Victor Ortiz was also rumored to be in the cast, and that appears to be him standing next to Rousey, just happy to be there.

Other than that, the photo gives us a glimpse of the film’s all-star cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Arnold Schwarzenegger (mostly blocked out by Antonio’s beanie), Dolph Lundgren, and Randy “The Natural, Except When It Comes to Acting” Couture, at least one of whom will likely be arm-barred by Rousey during the film to prove that, hey, this girl is tough.

Ronda Rousey to Make Big-Screen Debut in ‘The Expendables 3?

Real-life action hero Ronda Rousey has booked her first film role, and luckily it has nothing to do with that Hunger Games bullshit. As revealed yesterday by Sylvester Stallone himself, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion will have a part in The Expendables 3, which begins filming next month in Los Angeles; boxing star Victor Ortiz will have a part as well. But don’t worry, the film won’t steal attention from Ronda’s day job. From an MMAFighting report:

According to UFC President Dana White, filming of the movie won’t impact Rousey’s scheduled title defense against Miesha Tate, scheduled on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“That’s why I said, `Yes,” said White via text message. “Ronda listens, unlike others.”

Ouch. That remark was obviously directed at Edward James Olmos.

According to stats on boxofficemojo.com, the first two installments of the Expendables franchise both debuted at #1 in the U.S., and have taken in a combined worldwide gross of $574,000,000. Expendables 3 is currently slated to be released on August 14th, 2014, and will allegedly star Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Kellan Lutz, with possible appearances by Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, and…wait for itSteven Seagal.
