Ciryl Gane is scheduled to take on Tai Tuivasa in UFC’s first outing in Paris.
Former UFC interim Heavyweight title holder Ciryl Gane will face off against the rising prospect Tai Tuivasa in the headlining match of UFC Fight Night Paris on September 3. Gane is reeling off the first professional loss of his career in his latest unification bout with the reigning division champ Francis Ngannou.
Meanwhile, Tuivasa will be going into the cage after racking up a five-fight win streak. He dispatched all five of his previous opponents by a knockout or a technical knockout with a notable win against Derrick Lewis in February. The third-ranked contender in the division gets a significant level up in competition and is likely to get an inch closer to the gold if he comes out on top over the top contender.
UFC officially announced the matchup on Twitter this Wednesday.

It was previously reported that the UFC was working on a big show in Europe. Talks of the rumored matchup were ongoing but the company hadn’t made any official statements until the tweet.
For the first time ever since the legalization of MMA in France in Jan 2020, Ciryl Gane will get to compete in front of his hometown this September. Gane is widely considered to be one of the most athletic fighters, especially at heavyweight where the athletes don’t necessarily have a fast movement.
Prior to his loss to “The Predator”, Gane was on a seven-fight win streak in the UFC that saw him defeat Derrick Lewis, Alexander Volkov, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Junior dos Santos.
Gane opened as the favorite against Ngannou in their title unification bout but was unsuccessful in securing the title. His outing with Tuivasa is being looked at as a title eliminator matchup where the winner will either likely get a shot at the strap or go through a top contender bout.

UFC heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa hates to admit it, but he feels that Jon Jones is the greatest fighter who ever made the walk to the cage.
Tuivasa could earn a heavyweight title shot with a win over Ciryl Gane later this year. He’s been on a tear in the UFC with recent knockouts over Derrick Lewis and Augusto Sakai.
Tuivasa has become a fan favorite due to his fight performances and post-fight celebrations. He’s also never afraid to speak his mind.
Jon Jones is set to make his heavyweight debut at a later date after more than two years away from the Octagon. He has also resolved his recent legal issues stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident in Las Vegas.
During a recent interview with The AllStar, Tuivasa mixed in praises with harsh criticisms of Jones and his standing in the GOAT conversation.
“Jones is probably the best MMA fighter of all time,” Tuivasa said. “(But) he’s still a dickhead, you know what I mean?… In my personal opinion, yeah, he’s the greatest MMA fighter of all time… But If you’re a f*g idiot then you’re an idiot – and that’s it.
“If I ever got the opportunity I’d fight him – just to be a part. I do this to say like ‘f**k, I did that you know what I mean?… maybe I might win, maybe I might lose, but at least I can say I got to have a crack. Whatever happens, happens… I think I’m gonna be around for a little bit, and obviously, he’s got a bit left in him.” (h/t BJ Penn)
Tuivasa recently called for a fight with Stipe Miocic with no luck, but he’ll get the next best thing in Gane. Jones has hinted at a fight with Miocic for his heavyweight debut.
Inside the Octagon, there aren’t many UFC fighters who are comparable to Jones. But outside of it, fighters like Tuivasa feel that Jones’ character is less than desirable.

In a recent interview, he breaks down a matchup between two potential future opponents, as rumors circulate around a fight between former light-heavyweight king Jon Jones and former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
In a recent interview, ‘Bam Bam’ discussed the current landscape in the heavyweight division, but he focused his attention on two potential opponents, Jon Jones, and Stipe Miocic.
When asked about his opinion on both Jones and Miocic, Tuivasa did not shy away from telling exactly how he feels about both men as people and competitors. “Bam Bam” stated that “Jon Jones is probably the best MMA fighter of all time… he’s still a d*ckhead.”
Tuivasa went on to say that “I think he’s [Jones] the greatest. In my personal opinion, he’s the best MMA fighter of all time, but if you’re a f****n’ idiot then you’re a f****n’ idiot.”
On the topic of potential HW GOAT Stipe Miocic, Tuivasa noted that “He’s [Miocic] the best heavyweight champion.” The respect for the former champ is there for Tuivasa but in his personal opinion he believes that father time is calling for Miocic, as he also remarked that “I think Stipe’s just getting a bit old.”
When discussing the potential matchup, Tuivasa stated that “I think it’ll happen.” He went on to talk about how he believes Jones “will be good at any weight he fights at” and says that the biggest difference between Jones’ opponents at light-heavyweight compared to the potential opponents at heavyweight is that “everyone at heavyweight packs a powerful punch.”
Tuivasa went on to say that “if I ever got the opportunity, I would fight him [Jones]… maybe I win, maybe I lose, but at least I can say I got a crack.”
Tai Tuivasa’s current 5-fight KO streak over Stefan Struve, Harry Hunsucker, Greg Hardy, Augusto Sakai, and Derrick Lewis has set him up for the biggest challenge he will face in his professional career. With a dominant and impressive win over Ciryl Gane in September, he could be catapulted to the top of the division, granting him the opportunity to challenge for the Heavyweight belt next.

Tai Tuivasa could someday take his colorful personality and brute strength into the world of professional wrestling.
Any true pro wrestling historian should be all too familiar with the late, great Bam Bam Bigelow: a man known for his tattooed skull, agile movement for a man of his girth, and for his unique wrestling attire, which was arguably hijacked by none other than Kim Kardashian earlier this year.
However, there could eventually be another “Bam Bam” etched in the pro wrestling history books: none other than the UFC’s own, Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa.
In a recent appearance on Fine Dining With Fighters, Tuivasa emphatically answered in the affirmative when asked if he’d ever be a professional wrestler. He even confessed to openly weeping when he learned that it was all scripted (h/t MMA Mania).
“F—k yeah,” Tuivasa said on Fine Dining with Fighters when asked if he’d ever go the pro wrestling route. “I’ll be the new Rikishi, I’ll get my ass out. I love Rikishi, man. I grew up watching wrestling hard. My nana was a wrestling [fan], she still does watch. She’s crazy about it. I remember when my uncle told me it was fake, I cried for ages. I used to think they were the hardest c—ts, you know what I mean? I used to watch and just be like, ‘F—k.’ Then when he told me it was fake I started watching it and being like, ‘It’s not fake (crying).’ Then after that, I couldn’t watch it again for a long time because I was heartbroken.”
Should Tuivasa follow through on this vision and become a professional wrestler, one can only imagine the epic entrance he would own. The toughest part for the Aussie would likely be constraining his awesome taste in music by settling on one entrance song.
Once the bell rings, though, it’s pretty easy to imagine Tuivasa hiking up his tights for a Rikishi-esque stinkface to a poor opponent before putting them to sleep like he’s done many men inside the UFC Octagon.
The celebration? Some things carry over into any genre of entertainment, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Tai Tuivasa’s shoeys would be a fitting passing of the beer-filled torch from Stone Cold Steve Austin to Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa.

The UFC’s long-awaited French debut has been confirmed, with the promotion set to get a taste of the Parisian streets on September 3.
Having taken the Octagon across Europe, which has seen events go down in England, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Germany, and Czech Republic, among others, the MMA leader is set to host a card on French soil for the very first time later this year, with Paris’ Accor Arena the destined setting.

While the names set to feature on the card are yet to be confirmed, there are some notable bouts expected to go down, one of which will likely see a hometown hero look to to thrill in front of his fellow Paris residents.
Having fallen short of undisputed championship status at UFC 270 earlier this year, Ciryl Gane will be looking to rebound in style when he returns to action. Per reports, “Bon Gamin” is expected to headline UFC Paris alongside rising heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa, who’s no doubt relishing the opportunity to bring his famed shoeyvasas to France.
After seeing Bellator heavyweights Ryan Bader and Cheick Kongo headline a Paris card earlier this month in a pretty lackluster fashion, the UFC will hope to top it with their own big men later this year.
While the heavyweights look set to take center stage, the appetizer won’t be too far behind in terms of intrigue and stakes should the previously-scheduled clash between middleweight elites Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori be re-arranged for the event, as it’s expected to be.
Beyond the two fights targeted for the top of the slate, only one other matchup has come close to being confirmed, and that will see women’s flyweight Manon Fiorot, who hails from Nice, France, look to jump into title contention against #1-ranked Katlyn Chookagian.
Per BoxeMag.com, bout agreements were quickly sent out following the former title challenger’s recent victory over Amanda Ribas at UFC Vegas 54.
With the French presence in the UFC also including Nassourdine Imavov and Alan Baudot, as well as French-Canadians like Charles Jourdain and Marc-Andre Barriault, the Paris crowd will likely have no shortage of compatriots to cheer on from the Accor Arena stands on September 3.
