Frankie Edgar’s short-notice bout against Chan Sung Jung in Korea didn’t go too well.

Edgar was stopped in the first round in vicious fashion, resulting in a lengthy medical suspension shortly thereafter. Now, however, looking back, Edgar tells MMA Fighting he has no regrets over taking the fight against “The Korean Zombie.”

“It was something I did,” Edgar said. “You can’t go back and dwell on sh*t you can’t change anyways. No regrets for me. Obviously, I wanted a different outcome, but I took the opportunity. It didn’t go my way.

“Sh*t happens, but those are the breaks. I was definitely depressed for a little bit, a little down on myself, but you move on. What else are you going to do?”

Prior to his bout with Jung, Edgar was scheduled to make his debut at bantamweight against Cory Sandhagen. Of course, Edgar opted to pull from that fight in favor of headlining against Jung at 145 pounds. Edgar actually thought he might be able to fight Jung and still go on to compete against Sandhagen weeks later.

Of course, due to the damage he suffered against Jung, that was nowhere near possible. Despite the setback, Edgar says he still plans on dropping down to 135 pounds in attempt to capture UFC gold again.

“I’m going to go down to bantamweight,” Edgar said. “That was the whole plan before this obviously. The cards have been stacked against me my whole career being the smaller guy.

“Going out there and fighting in Korea on short notice, that kind of stacked the cards even more. I think what I need to do is put myself in a favorable position to win my next fight, and that’s at 135.”

What do you think about Edgar still planning to drop down to bantamweight?

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung made quite the statement when he finished Frankie Edgar in the first round of their UFC Busan main event.

Jung called for a title bout with newly-crowned champion Alexander Volkanovski next, however, he realizes he may need one more win before getting there. Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, Jung laid out his four desired opponents for his next fight. The first, obviously, being Volkanovski. The others being Zabit Magomedsharipov, Brian Ortega, or Max Holloway.

“I’m not sure. I’m already hearing words coming from the UFC,” Jung said. “The conversations Sean Shelby, Dana White, and more are having, I can’t reveal everything.

“All I know is that it’s just going to be a whole lot of fun. Right now, other than Volkanovski, I’m thinking Zabit (Magomedsharipov), (Brian) Ortega, (or Max) Holloway. If I’m not able to contend for the title shot, then I’d like to face one of the three.

One thing is for certain, the moment Jung gets his shot at the title, he’s determined to make sure he doesn’t let it slip through his fingers.

“The day I am given the opportunity for a title shot will be the day I become the champion,” Jung said. “I get a feeling that I won’t ever lose. Becoming the champion will mean that I have achieved my goal, and through that, I will also be able to prove that Asian men are strong as every other man.”

Who would you like to see Jung face next? Do you think he deserves a title shot?

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung has called for his shot against newly-crowned UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Jung called out Volkanovski after finishing Frankie Edgar in the first round of their UFC Busan main event matchup earlier this month. Speaking to MMA Fighting, Jung says he thinks he’d have an easier time inside the Octagon with Volkanovski than Max Holloway did.

“I’m eager to know when he will be back,” Jung said. “I think I’d be able to beat Volkanovski easier than Holloway could.”

After his win over Edgar, Jung admitted that he has an eye injury that causes him to have double vision. He will get the issue resolved before returning to action again. The title picture at 145 pounds is a bit fuzzy at the moment, as it remains to be seen whether or not Holloway will be granted an immediate rematch with Volkanovski after dropping the strap to the Australian.

With that being said, Jung realizes he may need at least one more win before getting the nod to fight for the gold.

“I do kind of think that I may have to fight once more [before the title shot],” Jung said. “If I have to face another opponent, I’ll go for it.”

Do you think Jung needs another win before challenging for the featherweight title?

The latest UFC rankings update is in, and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is not happy with his progress.

Jung, who comes off a big first-round TKO win over Frankie Edgar in the UFC Busan main event, took to social media to voice his displeasure. In the new update, Jung moved up two spots to take the No. 4-ranked position in the 145-pound weight class. He sits only behind Zabit Magomedsharipov, Brian Ortega, and Max Holloway.

Here’s what Jung had to say on the matter.

“One gained victory over an 11th ranker, and another hadn’t fought in 13 months. This ain’t a voting system for popularity I’m number 2.”

The UFC’s ranking system has long been criticized for who and how the voting is done. Originally, Jung was to face Ortega in the UFC Busan main event before Ortega was forced to pull from the card with an injury. It’s hard to think that Jung wouldn’t have been ranked even higher had he gotten a win over Ortega, who is currently the No. 2-ranked featherweight in the world as of this writing.

What do you think about Jung’s displeasure with his new spot in the UFC featherweight rankings? Do you agree with his concerns?

It looks like any potential title shot for “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung will have to wait for a while.

Jung comes off a big TKO win over Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC Busan earlier this morning (Sat. December 21, 2019) in South Korea. Jung dominated Edgar for a first-round TKO win, calling out UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski afterward. However, speaking to Korean media after the fight, Jung revealed he has been dealing with an eye injury for some time now.

“The Korean Zombie” said he has been dealing with a condition in which he has been seeing double. He will require surgery to repair the issue. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“Those that follow me on Instagram might know, but currently I have an eye condition that makes me see double,” Jung said. “Right now, everyone in this room, I’m seeing double of everything. I have double vision. It’s not a huge, major surgery, but is still gonna take about a couple, three months to recover.”

Jung noted that the surgery is his “priority” at the moment, so it sounds like he’s content to wait on a title shot a bit longer in order to repair his eye condition.

What do you think about Jung requiring surgery after his win over Edgar at UFC Busan?
