LAS VEGAS – Kendall Grove has never lost on Spike TV. Remind the UFC middleweight of that, and he has just one thing to say: “Shhhhhh!”
Those Hawaiian islanders have always been a bit superstitious. Just ask the Bradys. But Grove said he’s not – just maybe cautiously optimistic. “Tell me that after I win,” he said Thursday at The Palms in Las Vegas, site of his Saturday fight against former top middleweight challenger Demian Maia.
LAS VEGAS – All but one fighter made weight on their first attempts for “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 Finale on Friday.
The weigh-ins took place at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, site of Saturday’s card, which airs live on Spike starting at 9 p.m. Eastern.
Michael Johnson and Jonathan Brookins will fight for “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 lightweight title in the main event, with the winner getting a guaranteed UFC contract. Johnson weighed 156; Brookins came in a pound under at 154.

Both Brookins and Johnson were part of coach Georges St-Pierre‘s team, and both believe being picked by the UFC welterweight champion instead of by rival Season 12 TUF coach Josh Koscheck has made them better fighters.
Throughout the season, it seemed – at the very least thanks to the editing – that St-Pierre’s coaching methods were paying more dividends than Koscheck’s style. And both Brookins and Johnson said as much Thursday on a media call for their Season 12 championship fight on Saturday.

DETROIT – Though the tryouts for Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” took place earlier this month, and the show is scheduled to begin taping in January, UFC president Dana White said no decisions have been made yet about the coaches.
“We haven’t decided who the coaches are going to be yet,” White told a small group of reporters on Wednesday after the press conference for UFC 123. “I’ve been on the road for two weeks now and I don’t go home till Sunday. Then I’m back on the road again, like Wednesday. So I’ve got to get back in the office Monday and Tuesday and get some (stuff) done.”
Season 13 will feature welterweight and middleweight fighters. Candidates for the show went through tryouts in Las Vegas on Nov. 4. The Spike reality competition last featured welterweights in Season 9 and middleweights in Season 11.
