UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall doesn’t blame Jon Jones for not doing a faceoff with him.

Aspinall and Jones ran into each other at the Arnold Sports Festival. There, the two were talking to one another, as Aspinall wanted to set up a future fight with the two, but ‘Bones’ didn’t seem too keen and also didn’t do a faceoff for the potential fight.

According to Aspinall, he says Jones not doing the faceoff was smart as now it doesn’t lock him in to having to fight him.

“I wanted to face off,” Tom Aspinall said on The MMA Hour. “Jon’s smart, you know? … Jon will not say anywhere — you can’t find it, it’s not out there — that he will fight me. He won’t say it anywhere publicly. He won’t say it. You can’t find a clip, a quote, nothing, anywhere, of Jon Jones saying, ‘One day I’m going to fight Tom Aspinall, and I’m going to freaking beat the brakes off him.” That’s what I’m going to do.’ That doesn’t exist. He doesn’t want any evidence, anywhere, of him agreeing to any kind of fight with me, because he doesn’t want to go back on that.

“He doesn’t want to do a faceoff because that promotes a potential fight. When I ask him, ‘Jon are we going to do this?’ He doesn’t say, ‘Absolutely. Let me get Stipe out of the way and we’ll do it.’ He’ll instead say, ‘Oh, maybe one day.’ Because he doesn’t want that quote of, ‘We’re going to fight one day.’ It’s super smart.”

Jon Jones can return from pectoral injury in just four months come back sooner UFC 295

Of course, Jon Jones has been trying to secure his first heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic. With that, Aspinall may have to defend his interim title next, and a rematch against Curtis Blaydes could happen.

With Jon Jones not showing much interest in Tom Aspinall, the Brit doesn’t care if the fight doesn’t happen.

Tom Aspinall admits he's fearful of Jon Jones fight I absolutely do fear him but it fuels me

Although Aspinall wants to fight Jones, he says if it doesn’t happen it won’t hurt his career or his legacy.

“Honestly, I don’t spend my days thinking about Jon Jones,” Aspinall said. “On the contrary to what people think, I’m not desperate for it. That fight doesn’t define my career. It would be great, it would be nice, but I’ve got other ways to prove myself. I’m going to be around this sport for at least another five years. At least. Minimum.”

So it would be great. If I get the fight, fantastic. But I’m not like, ‘Oh, look at what Jon’s done again! It’s never going to happen! Oh my God!’ That’s Jon’s business. Jon can do his thing. If we fight, great. If we don’t, great as well. All respect to Jon Jones, one of the GOATs of the sport.”

Aspinall is coming off a first-round TKO win over Sergei Pavlovich back in December to become the interim heavyweight champion.

Tom Aspinall slams Ciryl Gane for ducking ‘multiple’ fights: ‘I asked for him years ago, he didn’t want it’

Tom Aspinall has accused Ciryl Gane of ducking multiple fighters, including himself.

Aspinall is heavily rumored to be part of the UFC’s yet-to-be-announced pay-per-view event in Manchester, England later this year. The UK-based star has been teasing his potential return, presumably to put his interim heavyweight title on the line against the only man to own a victory over him inside the Octagon, Curtis Blaydes.

Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes

Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Aspinall shared some insight into his next fight — specifically who it would not be against. Asked if there’s any chance of him fighting undisputed champion Jon Jones or former two-time titleholder Stipe Miocic at the event, Aspinall was quick to rule them both out. When Ciryl Gane’s name popped up, Aspinall accused the Frenchman of ducking fights left and right.

“He’s dismissed me on multiple occasions and I’m not the first guy he’s dismissed,” Aspinall said. “I’m not the first guy that he’s ducked. It’s out there for people to see. The reason that I got the Pavlovich fight is because Ciryl didn’t want it. He ducked Pavlovich. He then ducked Curtis Blaydes. Blaydes has been on record saying that. I asked for him years ago. He didn’t want it then. Then I asked for him in Paris. They flew me over to make that fight. He didn’t want it then so we’ll see what the UFC wants to do.”

Tom Aspinall accuses Gane of ducking fights

Ciryl Gane has come up short in two UFC title opportunities

‘Bon Gamin’ has won six of his last eight fights with his two losses during that run coming in title fights against former champion Francis Ngannou and current heavyweight king Jon Jones. After coming up short against ‘Bones’ at UFC 285, Gane bounced back with a big second-round knockout over Serghei Spivac at UFC Paris in September. Gane still sits as the No. 2 ranked contender in the heavyweight division.

Gane vs. Spivac

After winning the interim belt in November, Tom Aspinall lobbied hard for a title unification clash with Jon Jones, even going so far as to approach ‘Bones’ at one of the undisputed champ’s promotional appearances. Unfortunately, that fight is looking less likely with each passing day.

As a result, Aspinall has opted to move on from Jones and will look to score a bit of redemption against Curtis Blaydes.

Jamahal Hill teases heavyweight super clash with Tom Aspinall after UFC 300 I'd like that fight

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill is interested in moving up to heavyweight to secure a fight with Tom Aspinall.

Aspinall is the current interim heavyweight champion and is without a fight. However, Hill is booked to face Alex Pereira at UFC 300 for the light heavyweight title next weekend. It’s Hill’s first fight since he tore his Achilles, and entering the bout, he has full confidence he will get his and raised.

If Hill can become the champion again, he hints at a potential move up to heavyweight in the future for a superfight with Tom Aspinall as he knows he has a heavyweight frame.

Jamahal Hill's early return from injury at UFC 300 could prove disastrous: 'He tore his Achilles clean off'

“I usually walk around maybe like 240 [pounds]. I’m 240 right now, bro. Bro, I’m trying to tell you, bro, I’m a big boy. I’m a big dog. It’s possible. It’s possible, bro,” Jamahal Hill said to GiveMeSport… “I like that fight. I like that fight. Tom’s a great fighter. I’d have fun, I’d have fun fighting against him.”

On paper, Hill vs Aspinall would be a fun fight as both are strikers who would like to stand-and-trade, but both are technical as well. But, before that can happen, Hill needs to get past Pereira and reclaim the light heavyweight title that he vacated after his injury.

Jamahal Hill believes his power would translate to heavyweight

Although Jamahal Hill is focused on the light heavyweight division and his fight against Alex Pereira, the thought of moving to heavyweight is there.

Tom Aspinall

Hill is confident he would have success at heavyweight as he says his power would translate well and would allow him to have plenty of success.

“What the f*** is a power advantage? The game is, it doesn’t matter who is more powerful. What it comes down to is who’s going to hit who first, but we both got power. You can be a thousand times more powerful than me. I hit you first. What does that mean? That’s game,” Hill said.

When Hill will make the move to heavyweight, if he ever will is to be seen.

Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall gave British gymnast Nile Wilson a small taste of his power.

“I’m going to kick Nile Wilson in the leg, about 30% I reckon,” Aspinall said in a clip shared on his YouTube channel.

The Salford, England native tested the Olympic medalist first, throwing a feint to see whether or not Wilson would flinch. “He took my advice,” Aspinall said as Wilson held his position and braced for the worst. It was then that Aspinall uncorked a kick that immediately took Wilson off his feet.

For those unfamiliar, Nile Wilson won an Olympic bronze medal in the men’s horizontal bar at the 2016 Summer Games. He also etched his name in the history books a year earlier at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships by being part of the first world men’s team to medal in British gymnastics history.

Tom Aspinall is moving on from a fight with the winner of Jones vs. Miocic?

Tom Aspinall’s vicious 69-second knockout of Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 seemingly set the stage for an epic showdown between himself and the promotion’s undisputed heavyweight titleholder, Jon Jones.

Tom Aspinall KOs Pavlovich

Sadly, it appears as though UFC fans may never see that fight come to fruition. Following Apsinall’s big win, ‘Bones’ and UFC head honcho Dana White made it clear that their top priority was to rebook a previously scheduled clash between Jones and former two-time titleholder Stipe Miocic — a decision that could leave Aspinall waiting on the bench for a year or more.

Adding insult to injury, both Jones and Miocic have teased their potential retirement once they settle the great heavyweight GOAT debate. Again, where does that leave Tom Aspinall?

Tom Aspinall

Instead of sitting around waiting for something that may never come, Aspinall seems intent on defending his interim belt this summer with the likeliest opponent being Curtis Blaydes who is coming off a massive second-round knockout win over Jailton Almeida. It also helps that ‘Razor’ is the only man to hold a win over Aspinall inside the Octagon, even if it was the result of a freak injury.

Tom Aspinall vs. Curtis Blaydes

“Curtis Blaydes it is then,” Aspinall said in an interview with JN Media. “I’m easy, I’m the easiest person ever to entice into a fight. I’ve never turned one down yet. So anything that’s stopping me from fighting right now is not down to me, it’s down to the UFC. So I’m just waiting for the UFC to let me know who and when and I’ll be ready.”

Perhaps we’ll know more about Aspinall’s future once UFC 300 is in the books. For now, we’ll make the most out of his leg-kicking tumblers half his size.
