Former UFC champion, Conor McGregor threatens to ‘end’ Tony Ferguson, reigniting their old feud.

Since becoming the superstar is today, McGregor has been the number one target for pretty much every lightweight, and even contenders in other divisions. Ferguson is no different and called out the Irishman on multiple occasions and the pair have gone back-and-forth on countless occasions for over half a decade.

Unfortunately, a fight between the two has never happened and considering where their careers are at now, particularly Ferguson’s it is unlikely the pair will ever fight. It is a shame, in their primes both McGregor and Ferguson were two of the most exciting fighters on the roster.

Conor McGregor calls out Tony Ferguson

Unfortunately, fan favorite’s Ferguson’s career has taken a serious downturn and has now dropped his last six fights, four have which were stoppages. Before this, ‘El Cucuy’ went on a legendry 12-fight win streak, producing thrilling fights and earning himself a interim lightweight title.

Ferguson recently sent out a Tweet, detailing his current mindset and his relationship with the sport.

I Used To Smile A Lot Moar When I Was Competing  5.) Been So Busy Taking Care Of Others Instead Of Myself Continuted ? – Ferguson initially tweeted out

McGregor wasted no time in giving a heartless response, claiming he had not forgotten his ugly relationship with Ferguson over the years and threatened to end the 39-year-old.

‘I’m gonna end you and badly. I’ve not forgot.’- McGregor responded via his Twitter.

Tony Ferguson plans to keep fighting I'm not retiring f*ck those who say I should UFC

Former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson has once more claimed he has no intentions of calling time on his combat sports career, despite calls for him to hang up his gloves after suffering a sixth consecutive defeat at UFC 291 back in July against fellow veteran, Bobby Green.

Ferguson, a former interim lightweight titleholder, returned to the lightweight limit back in July at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah, suffering a buzzer-beating third round submission loss to the above-mentioned, Green, with the San Bernardino native landing a late D’Arce choke submission win.

The defeat came as Oxnard veteran, Ferguson’s sixth on the trot, following prior one-sided losses to Nate Diaz, Michael Chandler, Beneil Dariush, Charles Oliveira, and Justin Gaethje – the last of which in his second interim title fight under the banner of the UFC.

And despite suffering another defeat in a much-scrutinized performance, Ferguson initially shot down suggestions and calls for him to call time on his storied mixed martial arts career

Tony Ferguson denounces calls for him to retire from MMA

In the weeks since, Ferguson has reiterated his intentions to continue fighting, claiming he has no intentions to call time on his combat sports stint, and taking umbrage with those who think he should.

“I haven’t sparred good since (Edson) Barboza or (Josh) Thompson,” Tony Ferguson posted on his official X account. “Only time I find myself in a cage is when I fight. Since the pandemic none of this sh*t has been fun. I used to smile a lot moar (sic) when I was competing. Been so busy taking care of others instead of myself.”

“Created boundaries between those who are bad for me,” Tony Ferguson continued. “Structured myself so I don’t make the same mistakes. No I’m not retiring & f*ck those who think I should. I have work to do & I’m one p*ssed off MF.”

Without a victory since 2019, Ferguson’s most recent win came in the form of a second round doctor’s stoppage TKO win over recent Hall of Fame inductee and former lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone, which came as his record-setting twelfth consecutive win at 155lbs.

Daniel Cormier urges Tony Ferguson to leave the UFC or fight lesser opponents

Following his sixth consecutive defeat at UFC 291 over the course of last weekend, former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson has been urged to consider his fighting future – as well as his future with the organization by former two-weight gold holder and color-commentator, Daniel Cormier.

Ferguson, a former interim lightweight champion under the banner of the UFC, featured on the main card of UFC 291 last weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah – suffering a late, third round arm-triangle choke submission loss to fellow division veteran, Bobby Green.

The defeat came as Ferguson’s sixth on the trot, following prior successive defeats to Nate Diaz, Michael Chandler, Beneil Dariush, Charles Oliveira, and event headliner, Justin Gaethje.

And releasing an official statement following his loss to San Bernardino native, Green last weekend, Ferguson shut down the possibility of him retiring from mixed martial arts competition, insisting he had “more to give” to the sport.

Daniel Cormier urges Tony Ferguson to consider his future in the sport

However, according to former duel-weight champion, Cormier, Ferguson should consider either a departure from the UFC, or a significant drop off in competition.

“Five fights to the title, that was his (Tony Ferguson) catchline all week, but now he’s lost six in a row,” Daniel Cormier said on an episode of DC & RC. “Look, man, this guy is not losing to terrible fighters. He’s lost to Diaz, Chandler, Dariush, Oliveira, and Bobby Green now. But the reality is, he’s 39-years-old, and while he still has a ton of heart to fight, it just does not seem like his body is allowing him to do everything that his mind is telling him to do.”

“Because of that, and only that, I think it might be time for him to either say to the UFC, ‘I want to keep fighting but the competition needs to go down,’ or go fight somewhere else,” Cormier explained. “He’s going to be mad at me about it, but yes, the fight’s still there. It just does not seem the body is able to respond in the way his mind is telling it to.”

Sean O’Malley isn’t ready to close the book on Tony Ferguson’s mixed martial arts career just yet.

El Cucuy‘ hasn’t seen his hand raised since a 2019 TKO against UFC Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Over the last four years, Ferguson has fallen six straight times, including a third-round submission defeat at the hands of Bobby Green at UFC 291. He is now one loss shy of the record currently held by avid dinosaur denier BJ Penn.

At this point, even Tony Ferguson’s most loyal fans are calling for the former interim champion to call it quits, but there is one man that wants to see him give it one more go before throwing in the towel on his 15-year career.

“Tony Ferguson is on a six-fight losing streak,” O’Malley said during a recent episode of the TimboSugarShow on YouTube. “Tony was eating them until he was sleeping on them… I say give him one more. Yeah, for sure. I don’t want to count him out… Listen to who he lost to; [Justin] Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, Bobby Green. He’s not losing to f*cking turds.”

Tony Ferguson Accused Bobby Green of Intentional Eye Poke

To O’Malley’s point, Tony Ferguson has faced a veritable who’s who of combat sports killers. Perhaps it’s time for ‘El Cucuy’ to mix it up with some up-and-comers in the sport. A win or two outside of the top ten could do wonders for Ferguson’s confidence inside the cage. And even if he comes up short, you’re left with a couple of young guns that have a notable name on their hit list.

Unfortunately, Ferguson was less than graceful following his latest defeat.

During his bout with Bobby Green on Saturday night, Tony Ferguson suffered an eye poke early on. It’s an occurrence that sadly happens from time to time in mixed martial arts, but ‘El Cucuy’ was quick to suggest that the infraction was deliberate following the bout.

“Bobby knew the direction of the fight & I believe he knew what he was doing when he poked my eye. He has a big History of moves like this. It significantly impaired my vision, making it difficult to see clearly out of my eye,” Ferguson wrote on social media.

Green addressed the accusations during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, which you can see below:

Do you believe Bobby Green intentionally poked Tony Ferguson in the eye or is this nothing more than ‘El Cucuy’ making excuses after another tough loss inside the Octagon?

Tony Ferguson shuts down retirement after UFC 291 loss I have more to give

Despite suffering his sixth consecutive loss in his lightweight division return at UFC 291 over the course of the weekend, former interim division champion, Tony Ferguson has shut down any suggestions that he should finally hang up his gloves from competition, insisting he has “more to give”.

Featuring on the main card of UFC 291 over the course of the weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ferguson suffered his sixth straight loss inside the Octagon since 2020, dropping a buzzer-beating technical submission loss to Bobby Green – with the San Bernardino native latching onto an arm-triangle choke.

The outing marked Ferguson’s return to the lightweight limit following a brief welterweight excursion in an impromptu UFC 279 headliner against promotional veteran, Nate Diaz back in September of last year, where the former dropped a fourth round guillotine choke submission defeat.

And following another rather one-sided loss, many within the mixed martial arts community called for Ferguson to consider finally retiring from active competition.

Tony Ferguson dismisses a potential retirement after his UFC 291 loss

However, in his first statement released since the defeat overnight, Ferguson admitted he would speak with UFC president Dana White and his team to decide what is next for him, however, claimed he still has “more to give”.

“Walked into the Delta Center to show the world I was back on track,” Tony Ferguson posted on his official Instagram account. “The preparation for this fight was exceptional & it was one of the best camps I’ve had.

“As the fight began, I was in the zone, flowing & feeling confident,” Tony Ferguson wrote. “Bobby (Green) knew the direction of the fight & I believe he knew what he was doing when he poked my eye. He has a big History of moves like this. It significantly impaired my vision, making it difficult to see clearly out of my eye. Despite this eye poke I never considered stopping the fight. Although the doc wanted to. Throughout my career, I’ve always pushed through challenges & never given up This time was no different.

Unfortunately in sports, setbacks like this are part of the journey While I won’t use the eye poke as an excuse for the outcome, I know for a fact I have more to give.

Moving forward, I plan to work closely with Dana, Hunter & my entire team to assess what’s next.

I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to my Wife, my Family & my Fans. Your support means the world to me & it’s what drives me to keep pushing forward & striving for greatness. Thank you all for being by my side through the highs & lows of this sport that I love. Eye appointment tomorrow, some recovery & back after it. Love you all- Champ -CSO- #ufc291 Salt Lake City, Utah #AyMoe WooWooWooWoo Knyuck knyuck knyuck #ballsofsteel #FuckEm’IfTheyCantTakeAJoke.

Bobby Green submits Tony Ferguson with third round arm triangle at UFC 291 Highlights

Turning in his first submission win since an Octagon debut back in 2013, lightweight veteran, Bobby Green managed to prevent the judge’s involvement in tonight’s UFC 291 main card clash with former interim gold holder, Tony Ferguson — submitting the Calfornian veteran with a late third round arm-triangle submission.

Green, who entered tonight’s clash with future Hall of Fame inductee, Ferguson off the back of a three-fight winless run, managed to bloody and bruise the veteran fan-favorite throughout the three rounds of their main card clash in Salt Lake City.

And late in the third round, cruising en route to a likely one-sided unanimous decision win over Oxnard native, Ferguson, Green managed to capitalize during a rolling scramble from Ferguson — moving from full-guard to side control, to wrap up an arm-triangle win over Ferguson — with the former interim champion electing against tapping, forcing a technical submission loss.

As for Ferguson, the perennial division contender and Ultimate Fighter victor suffers his sixth consecutive loss, having previously rode a division-best 12-fight winning run through the lightweight ranks en route to an interim title win.
