Tony Ferguson has been very active on social media following his UFC 274 loss, and now Dustin Poirier has caught a piece of the action.
Ferguson, who has not been all that active on Twitter, recently has made a complete 180 following this past weekend’s fight. He lost via KO to Michael Chandler at UFC 274, but that hasn’t kept him down. He has been actively calling out and trash-talking with many fighters in his division.
“You’re Better At Hiding Kid, No Offense. I got KO’d but at least we showed up & did work,” he wrote on Twitter in response to Poirier writing, “I’m better than these guys.”
Ferguson, who is winless in the last few years is not in title contention at this time. However, laying the groundwork for a potential fight against Poirier would make sense. A win over Poirier, who currently sits at number two right behind Oliveira, would do wonders for his future title hopes.
Although some have been questioning Ferguson’s career at this point, insinuating that he might be close to retirement, Ferguson does not seem to be slowing down. He expresses his happiness to be back in the Octagon following this last fight and is itching for more.
What do you make of Tony Ferguson’s comments towards Dustin Poirier?
UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler has revealed that his viral knockout of Tony Ferguson wasn’t actually thrown with fight-finishing intent. This past weekend’s UFC 274 main card had elements of action on both ends of the spectrum. While Maurício Rua and Ovince Saint Preux drew boos for a slow-paced rematch and Rose Namajunas and Carla…
The lightweight collision between Chandler and Ferguson promised two things: unforgettable action and a damaging loss for one veteran. In the second round, the first element came courtesy of a Chandler front kick, leaving the other certainty on the side of “El Cucuy,” who left the arena with a fourth loss added to his skid.
For Chandler, a second victory inside the Octagon has brought him back into contention and lined him up for another big fight next time out. But judging by his latest comments, perhaps that’s more by luck than judgment…
Despite landing what appeared to be the perfect front kick, the former Bellator champion revealed that he rarely trains or throws any kicks, let alone the one that delivered the knockout blow in Phoenix.
“It’s actually hilarious because it’s not something I train a lot. To be quite honest with you, I’m more of a punch-heavy striker,” admitted Chandler. “I don’t throw a lot of kicks. Truthfully, because I hurt my foot more often than not. I hurt myself more than I hurt my opponents, so I don’t throw a ton of kicks.”
Nevertheless, Chandler and his team had identified a gap in Ferguson’s defense that could be exploited by head kicks and uppercuts. But despite acknowledging that, Chandler actually said he only threw the kick to establish range.
That’s got to be the most effective range-finder we’ve ever seen…
“We saw his hands were on both sides of his head. He was kinda leaving a lane up the middle,” said Chandler. “So, I was gonna throw high-lows and uppercuts. But the kick up the middle looked like it was gonna land so — I honestly threw it out there for a range-finder, but turns out I threw it with some ill intent and it landed on the chin and he crumbled, and the rest is history.”
If there’s one thing Chandler’s four-fight run in the UFC has shown us so far, it’s that unpredictability is the name of the game for “Iron” Mike. Although on this occasion, he seemingly even surprised himself.

The shift of the landscape of the lightweight division could not be more perfectly summed up by last Saturday’s action. UFC 274 saw Ferguson, who was once the 155lb division’s most feared contender, suffer yet another loss, whilst Oliveira further cemented himself as the world’s number one lightweight after a breakout 2020.
Many fans were left saddened to see the much beloved Ferguson be brutally knocked out by Michael Chandler. ‘El Cucuy,’ who is known for his toughness and grit, was stopped by a ferocious front kick which rendered him completely unconscious.
Since then, the ever respectful Oliveira has offered some kind words to Ferguson, stating:
“We’re among big dogs, up & downs are part of our jorneys. I admire you a lot @tonyfergusonxt. You’ve the history inside the Octagon. Head up “El Cucuy”! If you wish, let’s train together in ChuteBoxe’s hedquarter in São Paulo for your nxt fight. You’re a brother!”
Charles Oliveira & Tony Ferguson
Charles Oliveira, who defeated former interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, previously faced Ferguson back in 2020. ‘Do Bronx,’ who was coming off an impressive submission stoppage over Kevin Lee, won a clear decision against Ferguson, who bravely fought on until the end; even enduring an armbar that looked as if it would snap his arm any minute.
Ferguson, would reciprocate the gesture, congratulating Oliveira on overcoming fight week adversity.
I’m glad you listened Way to stay focused Chuck -CSO- # Don’t let your team let you miss weight again ok Buddy. We’ll see you soon kid, be good- Champ ”
Ferguson is now 39-years old and currently riding a four-fight skid. However, it must be noted that Ferguson has only fought the best of the best. Three of the four he has lost to have either been champions over the past 12 months or fought for a title. The fourth opponent, Beneil Dariush, is set to compete in a final eliminator for a title shot next. Hopefully Ferguson can get back to winning ways soon enough.

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler was at a bit of a disadvantage just minutes before making the walkout for his fight at UFC 274.
Chandler finished former interim champion Tony Ferguson with a vicious head kick in Round 2. He earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus after arguably one of the most brutal knockouts in UFC history.
But as he was in the back warming up for his fight, Chandler suffered a nasty finger injury during a routine drill.
“I dislocated my [ring] finger about 20-30 minutes before the fight, blocking a kick,” Chandler said. “My buddy Marquez, great training partner of mine, he was throwing kicks. I had this great idea. Warmup was already done, I’m going out in about 10-20 minutes, and I go, ‘Hey, throw some high kicks at me and I’ll block them and go body shot.’ And he threw a normal kick like he’s done 1,000 times at me and I ended up going fingernail all the way back, bent it all the way back.”
Chandler went on to dismiss the idea that he considered pulling out of the fight.
“At this point, we keep the adrenaline going, I said ‘this ain’t a hand, it’s a hammer. We gotta go.’”
Despite Chandler’s injury, he’s open to a quick turnaround to the Octagon later this year. He called out Conor McGregor in his post-fight interview and also seems open to a welterweight bout against Nate Diaz.
Chandler has emerged as one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC, and his toughness can’t be questioned after the injury he suffered just before his ‘Knockout of the Year’ candidate.

Ferguson suffered his fourth-straight loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 274 after getting his with a vicious front-kick to the face in Round 2. He had returned following a year away from the sport and cited tensions with UFC president Dana White and the rest of the UFC brass.
Ferguson, who at one point was considered one of the top lightweights in the world, has struggled since falling to Justin Gaethje in an interim lightweight title fight at UFC 249. One of those losses came at the hands of Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira who defeated Gaethje in the UFC 274 main event.
In a post-UFC 274 tweet, Oliveira wrote a message of support for his former adversary Ferguson.
“We’re among big dogs, up&downs are part of our jorneys. I admire you a lot [Tony Ferguson],” Oliveira tweeted. “You’ve the history inside the Octagon. Head up “El Cucuy”! If you wish, let’s train together in ChuteBoxe’s hedquarter in São Paulo for your nxt fight. You’re a brother!”
Chimaev, a rising star in the UFC, also reached out to Ferguson to remind him of his cemented status in UFC history.
“Keep your head up you are already a legend in this sport [Tony Ferguson],” Chimaev said.
Despite the obvious frustrations that come with defeat, Ferguson seems intent on moving forward and returning to the Octagon later this year. Leading up to the knockout from Chandler, Ferguson looked in peak shape and knocked down Chandler with a punch earlier in the fight. UFC President Dana White has also assured that despite the four-fight skid, Ferguson’s spot on the company’s roster remains secure.
Ferguson’s last UFC win came against Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 via doctor’s stoppage. Before that, he had earned the interim lightweight title over Kevin Lee and picked up a stoppage win over Anthony Pettis.

Ferguson has tabbed McGregor as “McNuggets” for years, and McGregor recently used Ferguson’s latest loss to throw his mockery back at him.

“Ahhh There’s my bitch,” Ferguson responded. “Next time tag me pussy. Comin’ after you & ur crew. McNugget stays with you fake, can’t take what not your ya anymore thief. Still got no sauce & no balls McNuggets. I’ll see you & your crew soon comin after your gold leprechaun.”
