Tony Ferguson does not find anything amusing about “Dana White privilege.”

Tony Ferguson has been on the active UFC roster for over 10 years. During that stretch, he has become known as one of the most revered, durable, and elite fighters on the roster. He solidified his “elite” status during a run of 12 consecutive victories.

However, despite his impressive résumé and winning streak, Ferguson has never received a shot at the undisputed UFC championship. He was scheduled to fight for the title on more than one occasion, but circumstances prevented those bouts from coming to fruition.

In contrast, Ferguson’s UFC 274 opponent Michael Chandler received a world-title opportunity after one UFC victory over a #6-ranked Dan Hooker, and that had Ferguson crying foul.

During the UFC 262 pre-fight press conference last year ahead of Chandler fighting Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight championship, Ferguson coined the now-famous “Dana White privilege” line, accusing White of showering “Iron Mike” with favoritism.

The crowd, and even both White and Chandler, got a big laugh out of the viral one-liner, but one person who isn’t laughing is the phrase-creator himself.

When asked in jest during his UFC 274 media scrum how it will feel for him to face the alleged beneficiary of “Dana White privilege,” Ferguson was unamused and believed no one else should find humor in favoritism, either.

“I don’t think it’s very funny,” Ferguson said of his viral phrase. “So everybody’s looking and they’re smiling, they’re laughing at it, but nobody’s saying shit. So I’m the kid that’s up here with Dana Brown privilege, or whatever the fuck you want to call it.

“I don’t think it’s very funny anymore. And neither (should) you guys. I don’t think you guys should think it’s very funny. So I’m taking this weekend very fuckin’ seriously. So I’ll kick this Dana White boy’s ass.”

Ferguson has spoken out in the past about believing his Mexican heritage has prevented him from receiving a title shot. Reporters did not audibly follow up on Ferguson’s volatile remarks, but however you interpret it, it’s clear that Ferguson has a chip on his shoulder heading into his showdown with Chandler this Saturday.

Chandler went on to lose his title bout against Oliveira followed by a loss to Justin Gaethje in an instant classic at UFC 268. Thus, Chandler will also have much to fight for this weekend in an effort to prevent a three-fight skid.

Ferguson himself is currently on a three-fight losing streak, which is easily the longest skid of his career. Ferguson most recently competed at the aforementioned UFC 262 event, dropping a unanimous decision to Beneil Dariush.

Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson has distanced himself from a future showdown with fellow former interim gold holder, Dustin Poirier – insisting that the Lafayette striker flaked on a potential fight in the past, and claimed he was “full of sh*t”.

Tony Ferguson, who features in a high-profile main card bout at UFC 274 this weekend in Phoenix, Arizona – attempts to snap a three-fight losing skid as he meets with one-time title challenger, Michael Chandler.

Tony Ferguson was previously expected to fight Dustin Poirier in October 2020 on ‘Fight Island’

Back in October of 2020, however, Ferguson, who had just seen his record-setting 12-fight winning streak in the division snapped by UFC 274 headliner, Justin Gaethje, was expected to co-headline UFC 254 against Poirier, until the latter confirmed that the bout had been shelved due to financial issues with the organization.

The Oxnard native most recently featured on the main card of UFC 262 back in May of last year in a matchup against Kings MMA staple. Beneil Dariush, suffering a rather one-sided unanimous decision loss to the surging contender.

Over the course of this week on his official Twitter account, Poirier answered a fan question, asking if he would fight the victor of this weekend’s clash between Ferguson and Chandler this weekend, he replied, “prolly (probably) so”.

Ferguson, on the other hand, however, appears to be more than over on the thought of fighting his fellow former interim gold holder in the future, claiming that Poirier is “full of sh*t”.

“He’s (Dustin Poirier) full of sh*t,” Tony Ferguson told assembled media ahead of UFC 274. “I’m gonna be real, he said he wanted to fight me many times, and I even gave the opportunity, and then he wanted more money to be able to fight.”

“The kid’s full of sh*t,” Tony Ferguson explained. “You know, nothing against Poirier or any of the other fighters, but I’m worried about (Michael) Chandler. We prepared for this guy for UFC 274 for many, many weeks. I brought in some good, smart people to be able to structure all the stuff and all the talent that I have, to be able to go out there and go get this victory on Saturday night. I’m a different animal.”

In his most recent professional victory, Ferguson managed to stop Donald Cerrone with a second round doctor’s stoppage win back in June 2019 in a Fight of the Night classic.

White Assures Ferguson’s Job Safe Regardless Of UFC 274 Outcome

UFC President Dana White says Tony Ferguson’s job status isn’t in jeopardy, regardless of how his upcoming fight vs. Michael Chandler turns out. UFC President Dana White says Tony Ferguson’s job status isn’t in jeopardy, regardless of how his upcoming fight vs. Michael Chandler turns out.

Ferguson will face Chandler on the UFC 274 main card this weekend. It is a matchup between two lightweight contenders looking to get back in the title chase.

While Chandler has suffered back-to-back losses, they’ve come against Charles Oliveira in a title fight, and in a back-and-forth war with Justin Gaethje. Ferguson has struggled over his last three losses to Gaethje, Oliveira, and Beneil Dariush.

But while it’s uncertain if Ferguson will return to form this weekend at UFC 274, White is standing firm when it comes to his place in the promotion.

“Well, you’re still talking about number 5 versus number 7 in the nastiest division in the sport,” White said in a recent interview with The Underground’s John Morgan. “So if you look at who they’ve lost to, it’s all the best in the world. And these guys, they always bring it. They always come to fight. No, nobody’s fighting for their life in this one.”

Ferguson earned the interim lightweight title over Kevin Lee at UFC 216. The UFC was just days away from seeing Ferguson finally face Khabib Nurmagomedov next before Ferguson tore his knee during fight week.

Before his recent losing streak, Ferguson picked up impressive wins over Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone. He earned a spot in the UFC following his win of The Ultimate Fighter: Season 13.

Ferguson is widely regarded as one of the toughest lightweights in UFC history, but he’ll look to get back in the win column against Chandler this weekend. It doesn’t sound like White and the UFC plan to part ways with Ferguson anytime soon.

Do you think Tony Ferguson can return to being a top-tier UFC lightweight?

Dustin Poirier

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has revealed his pick for who he will likely fight next.

Dustin Poirier believes that he will probably face the winner of Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson in his return to action inside the cage. As one of the biggest stars of the UFC, ‘Diamond’ has fought some of the promotion’s very best. His two wins against the biggest draw of the sport, Conor McGregor, elevated him to superstar status last year.

Poirier hinted at moving up to welterweight after eyeing a potential matchup against Nate Diaz but talks of the fight have died down since. He was called out by Colby Covington for a fight at 170 but expressed no desire in taking the fight. With so much speculation surrounding his next opponent, the man himself responded to a fan’s tweet suggesting that he takes on the winner of Chandler-Ferguson this May 7.

Dustin Poirier will likely face Chandler or Ferguson

Michael Chandler will take on Tony Ferguson this weekend at UFC 274 in one of the most stacked cards of the year. ‘El Cucuy‘ has not been enjoying the best of forms as he reels off three losses in a row against two of the same opponents Chandler lost to. Those two men are Justin Gaethje and reigning UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira who will be headlining the card in a title fight.

All three athletes are at the highest level and are former title challengers. Poirier was submitted via a rear-naked choke by the former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov when he fought for the title first in 2019, and then for the second time against Oliveira last December.

Chandler was close to winning the title but Oliveira came back in the second round to win the contest. Poirier also suggested that the UFC might be saving him for a fourth showdown against Conor McGregor but maintains he has not been given any indication into his next opponent.

Who do you want to see Dustin Poirier fight next?

Fight week for UFC 274: Oliveira vs. Gaethje is upon us, and the countdown to this spring showcase has officially begun.

The UFC has released their official UFC 274 Countdown video, which features the tripleheader that will be on display this Saturday, May 7, 2022.

In the main event, Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira will put up the lightweight gold for the second time as he looks to extend his incredible 10-fight winning streak. Next up for the solidified champion is the walking highlight reel and advocate for violence Justin Gaethje, who has been chomping at the bit for another shot at the title after his 2020 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

As Gaethje seeks redemption, so will Rose Namajunas who will run it back with Carla Esparza seven years after Esparza became the inaugural UFC strawweight champion at Namajunas’ expense. This time, it will be Namajunas entering with the title and Esparza trying to extend her winning streak to six with the reward of championship gold awaiting her.

Finally, there will be a lightweight feature bout between fan favorites Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson. Chandler and Ferguson will both attempt to put a halt to their losing streaks and no doubt put on a thriller for fans while doing so.

Here is what you can expect to see from the UFC 274 Countdown video.

“I have all the advantages over Justin Gaethje. I’m better on the feet, better on the ground, I’m better at wrestling, my mind is better than his, my spirit is better than his. I’m the champion. That’s the reality.” – Charles Oliveira

In the Countdown video, Oliveira’s humble beginnings and underdog roots were chronicled alongside his rise to cementing himself as the current lightweight king. And as noted in the above quote, his confidence throughout the episode was easy to detect.

“When it comes to competing, I’m a showoff. And I want to put myself in the history books as a champion of the lightweight division.” – Justin Gaethje

You can’t talk about a Justin Gaethje fight without making mention of the entertainment and violence factor that is always present when he takes the Octagon. But what was spotlighted even more in this episode is Gaethje’s desire to make the most of this second chance and become a UFC world champion.

“Fighters will never admit that they have quit or whatever, but that was the first time I quit.” – Rose Namajunas

In the episode, a vulnerable Rose Namajunas opens up about her loss to Esparza seven years ago. She and her coach/fiancé Pat Barry were very reflective about the experience and discussed the growth “Thug Rose” has experienced since then en route to becoming a confident champion ahead of UFC 274.

Former titleholder Carla Esparza spoke about paying her dues to make it back to the UFC title conversation and was also upfront about her game plan coming into her rematch against Namajunas.

“I’m going to be too sharp, too composed. I think he’s always there to be hit. I think he keeps his head right where I’m gonna want it. I’m going to be able to lad big shots. One of those shots is going to land right on the button, and Tony goes out.” – Michael Chandler
