Tyron Woodley, Jake Paul

Tyron Woodley thinks it’s high time to give Jake Paul some more respect.

Minutes after the first fight between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley, Woodley demanded a rematch, and the two opponents awkwardly revamped their tattoo bet during the post-fight interviews. This time, the immediate aftermath was much more amicable.

Woodley bore the brunt of defeat right on the chin, with no excuses and a hard lesson learned. Although naturally, as stated in the post-fight press conference, he would still like to fight Paul again if he had it his way.

Nevertheless, with redemption slipping through his fingers, that leaves both hands free to give Paul well-deserved applause for the legitimate threat he poses as a fighter. According to Woodley, that respect has always been there from his end, so now it’s time for the rest of the public to follow suit.

“So at some point, we’re gonna have to put a little respect on Jake’s name,” Woodley said at the post-fight press conference. “I never really disrespected him as a power puncher. That’s something we always knew. That’s why my defense was so tight. And had he dropped his hand on me, the same shit would’ve happened.”

That KO did not happen for him, and Woodley would exit the Amalie Arena without the extra $500,000 he was hoping for. Woodley did have Paul literally on the ropes in their first encounter, but many people believe his lack of follow-up aggression let Paul off the hook.

It is uncertain where Tyron Woodley and Jake Paul will go from here, but it’s safe to say that the Paul/Woodley chapter of both men’s careers is officially closed. At 24 years old, Paul has many more pages to fill in his athletic story and many more opportunities to continue earning respect in every passing fight.

For the 39-year-old Woodley, that respect has already been earned long ago, whether or not his story continues.

Do you think Jake Paul gets enough respect?

Jake Paul believes his knockout of Tyron Woodley last night was a statement victory over the entire UFC promotion.

Jake Paul and Dana White have been firing shots at one another for almost the entirety of 2021. The two central themes the two have quarreled about are UFC fighter pay and Paul’s legitimacy as a fighter.

Dana White did not give Paul much of a chance to defeat Ben Askren when that fight was made early this year. He even stated that he’d be willing to bet $1 million on Paul losing to “Funky.” White later claimed that this bet was never made, which would be fortunate for him because Paul made short work of Askren in their April bout.

Though Askren was a UFC fighter, many people did not give Paul much credit for the victory in hindsight. After all, “UFC fighter” label aside, Askren is well known to be a wrestling specialist.

But now, Paul has knocked out a well-rounded former UFC champion. And in so doing, he believes he knocked the entire promotion down a peg, including their outspoken boss.

“I just knocked out a five-time UFC champion and embarrassed your whole company,” Paul said in a message to White during the post-fight press conference.

Jake Paul Sends A Follow-Up Message To Dana White

Jake Paul would not stop there. He would then deliver another message to White, pleading with the UFC boss to let him continue “embarrassing” one UFC star after another.

“And please, please let me get Kamaru Usman,” Paul said. “Please let me get [Nate] Diaz. Please let me get [Jorge] Masvidal. Please let me get [Conor] McGregor. Because I’m gonna embarrass them, too. I promise you that, Dana. I promise you that.”

Jake Paul has already called out each of the aforementioned fighters. The only one of the four to not acknowledge Paul at all is Conor McGregor. Usman and Masvidal have both directly expressed an openness to box Paul. Diaz has also had some choice words for Paul in the past, and the rumor mill holds that the Stockton slugger would also be open to fighting Paul.

Nevertheless, all of those four names remain under UFC contract, which means they are unable to fight Paul without the permission of Dana White. And White has made it abundantly clear time after time that will never happen.

Tyron Woodley attended the post-fight press conference and seemed fairly positive despite getting knocked out cold by Jake Paul.

The former UFC champion insisted it’s time to start putting respect on Paul’s name after the 24-year-old brought their rivalry to a definitive end last night.

“At some point, you’re gonna have to start putting a little respect on Jake’s name,” Woodley told reporters. I never really disrespected him as a power puncher – that’s something we knew, that’s why my defence was so tight.

“I told you guys I was in shape, I told you I was ready to fight, I told y’all I was coming and I would look in better shape than he was,” Woodley added. “I thought I was winning, it wasn’t a landslide. I went back and I looked at [the KO], and I’m like: ‘Why the f*** did I drop my hand?

“I had both hands up, I was ready, I knew it was coming, I was ready to block the overhand. I don’t know if he delayed it, [but] even if he didn’t delay it, I don’t know why I dropped my hand.

“In this sport, it can take literally one mistake. I blocked so many punches. Had he dropped his hand on me, the same s*** would have happened.”

Tyron Woodley Plans To Fight On

Woodley has now lost six consecutive fights in boxing and MMA and appears to be way past his best at 40 years old.

Despite that, the former UFC champ insists he will continue to compete in combat sports in 2022.

“I’m not done. Please do not look at me with sorrow [in your] eyes, shaking your head,” Woodley said. “I f****d a lot of people up, a lot of people had to have that talk in locker rooms, a lot of coaches had to go back to the drawing board. A lot of people, I saw it in their faces, it broke their heart when I took that from them.” (Transcribed by Independent)

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman wants the world to know that he shouldn’t be blamed for Tyron Woodley getting knocked out by Jake Paul.

Usman and Woodley fought once before in their UFC careers at UFC 235, as Usman earned a unanimous decision victory to get the UFC welterweight title.

After Woodley was viciously knocked out by Jake Paul on Saturday night, Usman wanted to make sure fans know that he doesn’t take responsibility for Woodley’s disappointing loss.

Kamaru Usman Hilariously Reacts To Woodley/Paul Rematch

An argument could be made that Usman forever changed the combat sports career, Woodley. Before losing to Usman, Woodley had been regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in many eyes.

But Woodley’s loss to Usman could be seen as the beginning of the end of his career. He went on to lose three straight fights in the UFC octagon to Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington, and Vicente Luque before being let go by the promotion.

Meanwhile, Usman has gone on to become one of the UFC’s biggest stars and most dominant champions and has entered the conversation as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time.

Usman has had a fair share of back-and-forth with Paul in the past, with both men challenging the other to an eventual fight in the ring. Usman has also teased a move to boxing to challenge himself against Canelo Alvarez.

As for Woodley, he remains winless in his professional boxing career and it’s unclear what could be next for him.

Usman is coming off of a second victory over his rival Covington and is widely expected to face Leon Edwards for his next title defense. After that, he may dive into the world of boxing to challenge himself in another field.

After fighting to a split decision earlier this year, Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley entered the boxing ring once again for a rematch in Tampa, FL.

Let’s see how things played out.

Round 1:

It was a relatively uneventful first round as both fighters appeared hesitant. Paul and Woodley traded orthodox jabs but clinched multiple times in the opening minutes, as the referee broke them up.

Round 2:

The pace began to pick up a little bit in the second round, and Paul started to find his footing. Both Woodley and Paul landed some solid shots on the inside, but there weren’t too many damaging shots in the round. Paul was the more active fighter by a slight margin.

Round 3:

Woodley began to pen up a bit more in the third round, especially with the straight right hand. There appeared to be an accidental elbow that opened up a brutal cut on Paul, and Paul appeared to have issues with his vision as blood dropped into his eyes. Woodley had Paul in a brief moment of trouble against the ropes, before slowing down.

Round 4:

Woodley opened up the fourth round with a flurry of combinations but appeared to take his foot off the gas as Paul started to fatigue. Woodley, in a clinching position with Paul, took him down with a UFC-esque move. The referee issued a brief warning and the fight resumed. Paul is breathing through his mouth and appears tired, but Woodley isn’t pouring out volume.

Round 5:

Paul and Woodley continued to engage in the clinch throughout the round despite multiple warnings from the referee. There appeared to also be an accidental headbutt by Woodley. Woodley landed a fast flurry of 1-2 combinations towards the end of the round but didn’t follow up. Paul landed a few decent hooks.

Round 6:

The sixth round began a bit slow with both men engaging the clinch, but Paul landed the decisive blow that send Woodley collapsing to the canvas for the knockout win. It was an overhand right hook that Paul set up from the hip that landed clean to Woodley’s left temple and ended the fight immediately. Doctors immediately came into the ring to attend to Woodley, and he appeared out for at least a full minute.

Check out the vicious knockout from the highly-anticipated rematch between Paul and Woodley.

Tonight, Tyron Woodley will face Jake Paul in a rematch of their highly promoted bout from August. But before he was boxing YouTubers in specialty prize fights, he was the undisputed UFC champion. However, according to Woodley, you would have never known it by the way he was treated by the UFC.

Headline: Tyron Woodley: Race Responsible for Being “Worst-Treated Champ in UFC History”

Author: Adam Haynes

Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley believes that being an African-American in the UFC has worked against him and other fighters when it comes to promotional appeal.

Woodley feels that the UFC can capitalize on stardom in an effort to convert more African-American fans from boxing and other sports to MMA.

UFC’s welterweight champion is of the opinion that the UFC is not doing enough to promote both him and the sport as a whole to the African Americans, and feels as though the time has come for the franchise to do so:

“I think I’m the only African-American fighter on the roster who can capture the market,” Woodley said. “Especially with Floyd Mayweather retiring and things like that. But you have to educate the community on what it is. Most people in the community, those people think that mixed martial artists are a whole bunch of crazy white guys kicking on each other and they sprinkle in a few brothers. That’s their thought. They don’t see it as karate, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, sambo. They don’t see it’s a beautiful art with so many martial arts combined in them.”

Woodley’s frustration also stretches to another fighter he feels has not been promoted to the best of the UFC’s abilities, the current flyweight champion and pound-for-pound #1, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

The Missouri native brought questions [courtesy of ESPN] to the fore regarding black fighters (such as Johnson),  have not attained the level of superstardom which white fighters such as [Conor] McGregor and [Ronda] Rousey have:

“The best pound-for-pound fighter, Demetrious Johnson, African-American male, completely a Tasmanian devil,”  “Why isn’t he getting the endorsements? Why isn’t he making the most money? What’s the difference? Think about it.”

“I’m by far the worst-treated champion in the history of the UFC. Blatantly fact.”

Woodley appears to be genuinely incredulous as to why the UFC have, as he feels, not made more of an effort to market him:

“I’m a husband, I’m a father of four, I’m a gym owner,” Woodley said. “I’m an actor. I’m an analyst. I’m a stuntman. I’m a Christian. Every avenue you can take me, I’ve done it. I grew up in the projects. I grew up in gang banging. Family of 14 in a four-bedroom house and I made a choice to be successful. What is there not to market? I’m fighting like hell. I’m not doing performance-enhancing drugs in my life. Why would they not want to market me?”
