Michael BispingThere was quite a bit of hand-wringing among MMA fans this weekend over Spike TV showing UFC 120 on tape delay from London, leading to some fans finding out the results of the fights before they aired in the United States. But Spike TV says that the hand-wringing has been limited to a relatively small number of fans, and that the majority of viewers prefer to watch the fights in prime time.

“We actually don’t get many viewer calls,” said David Schwarz, VP Communications at Spike. “I’ve never received any and I know it’s very minimal. … Our research says Saturday night is fight night — guys are home, they get together with their friends and it’s a natural time to watch the fight.”

Robert Downey Jr. Was Kind of Excited About Condit’s Win on Saturday

If you watched UFC 120 on Saturday, you may have noticed a brief shot of Robert Downey Jr. sitting alongside his Sherlock Holmes 2 director Guy Ritchie and co-star Jude Law.

For those of you who don’t know, RDJ is an avid martial artist who attributes his 180-degree life turnaround from drug addict to box office juggernaut to his study of the Chinese art of Win Chun, which he began training in a few years ago, so it’s no surprise that he’s a UFC fan.

What is surprising is that he’s apparently a huge Carlos Condit fan…either that or he was rubbing it in his British mates faces that their homeboy, Dan Hardy got KTFO. I’m thinking a few pounds might have been on the line.

MMACagedoor pictorially broke down a frame-by-frame series of events that took place outside the Octagon as Condit connected with Hardy’s jaw.

Check out the freeze-frame grabs and a video clip of Downey’s exuberant celebration after the jump.

The Unsolicited Advisor: Stop Complaining About UFC Spoilers

Here’s a helpful reminder for those people who are still fuming on the internet today: we live in what is often referred to as the Information Age. As far as age names go, it doesn’t sound anywhere near as cool as the Bronze Age, but it is almost certainly more fun to live in. Not only do we have iPods and antibiotics, but also vastly superior cutlery.

But there are, we must admit, some drawbacks to this brave new world of ours. For one, the practice of plundering and pillaging is frowned upon. For another, we live in almost constant fear of the spoiler, which is a uniquely modern invention.

Take UFC 120, for instance. The event went down on Saturday night in London, which was Saturday afternoon in most of the U.S. While the Brits and the Canadians got to see it on live TV, we Yanks had to wait for the tape-delayed broadcast on Spike TV, presumably because Spike just couldn’t dare to preempt its five-hour block of “UFC Unleashed” episodes.

No Outrage at Scoring In Mike Pyle Win, but Judges Made a Mistake

For sometimes valid, sometimes overstated reasons, judging is a constant cause of criticism in the MMA world. We’ve seen many a fight where the guy who walked out of the cage with a smile on his face after being awarded a decision seemed to be the one who took the most lumps during the course of action.

Other times, the outcry isn’t so warranted. And yet other times, terrible mistakes are ignored altogether. Take Saturday night’s UFC 120 fight between Mike Pyle and John Hathaway, for instance.

During the second round, Pyle schooled Hathaway in one of the most obviously one-sided stretches of 2010. For the final two minutes of an already-strong round, he had Hathaway trapped in an inverted triangle that effectively functioned as a crucifix. For two minutes, Pyle pounded on Hathaway’s face without obstacle. Yet when the judges scorecards came in, it was scored a 10-9 round. Say what?

Maybe it wasn’t such a great night for most of the British fighters on the main card, but the event still got a great reaction from the always enthusiastic U.K. crowd, even if there weren’t quite as many soccer chants and sing-alongs as I’d like.

But enough with the preamble. Let’s take a look at the biggest winners, losers, and everything in between from UFC 120.
