Amanda Nunes is the latest fighter to voice her aggravation over the UFC 232 venue change and state tax that goes along with it.

Many other UFC fighters competing on this weekend’s year-ending pay-per-view have expressed their frustrations regarding travel plans. However, “The Lioness’” main beef has to do with the fact she will now be paying significantly higher taxes in California than she would in Nevada.

“Well… wasn’t expecting to pay California state taxes this Holiday season,” Amanda Nunes wrote on Twitter (h/t Fansided).

Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting raised an extremely valid point on Twitter. That was fighters competing at UFC 232 are going to lose a sizeable chunk of change due to crossing state lines.

“UFC 232 fighters are losing, depending on their income bracket, somewhere between 9.25-13 percent of their purses due to the card being moved from no-tax Nevada to high-tax California,” explained Doyle.

For now anyway it looks as though Nunes’ fiancee Nina Ansaroff’s plans to buy a new car are on hold.

“There goes my new car…” Ansaroff wrote.

“Sorry love,” Nunes replied.

While the UFC ultimately decided to move the enitre event on just six days notice, it seems they did have a reasonable alternative. Many fans wondered why the promotion didnt move Nunes vs. Cyborg into the new main event for UFC 232.

According to UFC President Dana White, that just wasn’t feasible.

“You know I’m not afraid to cancel a fight,” White told MMAjunkie on Sunday. “I’m not going to move a whole (expletive) event to Los Angeles because we need Jon Jones to fight on Saturday because money, or we need … none of that (expletive). Jon Jones has trained for this fight. Gustafsson has trained for this fight. This fight needs to happen in this division. This fight should happen, and it’s going to happen because he didn’t do anything wrong.”

Jeff Novitzky has defended moving UFC 232 for Jon Jones as ‘right thing to do. But fans are none too happy about the decision.

The annual year-end PPV is still happening, albeit in a diffent state entirely. The event has been moved from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

A Jon Jones drug test came back with an “atypical finding” of trace amounts of the same turinabol metabolite that gave “Bones” his most recent 15-month suspension.

Jones’ test result is not a new violation of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. However, the Nevada State Athletic Commission doesn’t feel comfortable licensing him on such short notice. That is precisely why the UFC has decided to move the entire show to California where Jones will be granted a licence.

UFC President Dana White and the UFC VP of athlete health and performance, Novitzky, expained that Jones did nothing wrong in this instance. USADA, and other agencies believes the test result is a “pulsing” effect and not a new ingestion.

Here is what Novitzky had to say about the “picogram” levels of turinabol found in Jones’ system:

“A picogram is a one-trillionth of a gram,” Novitzky said. “If you put one grain of salt on the table and split it up into 50 million pieces, a picogram is one of those pieces of that gram of salt. These levels have shown up in the single and double digits of picograms – so such a small amount.”

Tweet Barrage

Novitzky echoed that that same sentiment early Monday morning on Twitter.

This case exemplifies how advanced and sensitive drug tests have become. With this comes a greater responsibility and the need to look at each situation objectively. The decision yesterday showed both of these things. Can’t make everyone happy, but it was the right thing to do.

“The right thing to do”? That seems a bit one-sided in my opinion. UFC fans agreed as they responded to Novitzky’s tweet in anger.

This entire situation is not a good look for the sport and a black eye for a promotion that will make its debut on ESPN programming in four short weeks.

Jon Jones took to Instagram last night to issue an apology for the UFC 232 debacle but insists the situation was ‘completely out of his control’.

Jones released a statement yesterday regarding his ‘atypical’ test result that has caused the promotion to relocate UFC 232 from Las Vegas to Las Angeles.

However, the former 2x light heavyweight champion took to Instagram live on Sunday night to further explain his position.

“Today has been a hell of a day, a hell of a day,” Jones said. “Big shock to us all. Spent tears today, because I can feel the frustration of the fans. And I’m going to do what I can to try to make it right for at least some of you guys. I’ve already taken care of some flights and some tickets for people, so I’m doing what I can to make this right.”

Jones will now fight Alexander Gustafsson for the light heavyweight title at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

This is only the second time in the company’s history that they were forced to relocate an entire event. The only other time in 1997 was due to political restrictions.

Jones’ Full Statement:

“How’s it going, everybody? It’s your boy, Bones Jones here. I just wanted to take the time out to apologize to the fans for what is going on. This is a situation that is completely out of my control. But I still will man up and apologize for this happening. I realize there’s a lot of people who lost out in the situation. People came from Sweden, people came from Brazil, other fighters. I feel your guys’ frustration. Today’s been a hell of a day, a hell of a day. A big shock to us all. Spent tears today, because I can feel the frustration of the fans. And I’m going to do what I can to try to make it right for at least some of you guys. I’ve already taken care of some flights and some tickets for people, so I’m doing what I can to make this right. But I just really want to assure you guys that this was not a mistake I made. Completely out of my control. But I do feel your guys’ pain, and I’m sincerely sorry. Love you guys, and God bless you guys. And I guess I’ll see some of you in California, and that’s about it. All right, I’m going to try to get some sleep.”
